Welcome Welcome to Little Raccoons Day Nursery. We hope that you find this brochure a useful and informative introduction to our day nurseries.

When your child becomes a part of our nursery, you too become a part of our nursery community. We seek to encourage a shared commitment to the success of each individual child by involving parents as fully as possible in the life and work of the nursery.

PhilosophyOur aim is to provide the highest quality childcare in a happy, relaxed and secure environment. To achieve this we aim to nurture each child by attending to their unique individual needs.

We actively follow their development needs from a young infant through to a confident pre-schooler, allowing your child to learn through exploring, discovering and learning.

A bout UsLittle Raccoons Day Nursery has come about as a result of being unable to find suitable childcare for our own child that met our high expectations and that provided our child with a "friendly family feel".

Little Raccoons are boutique nurseries that are personally managed. We believe in a nursery that offers the big-thinking and experience that comes from the large national chains but is small and provides that personal touch, through small room sizes and a devoted team of helpers.

Our staff are committed to the happiness of the children, who are keen to offer support and advice to parents as required. We provide excellent facilities enabling staff to care for and educate all children within groups suitable for their age and stage of development.

Little Raccoons is well designed and equipped to the highest standards to allow your child to develop and grow.

Early Years We aim to establish your children's time at Little Raccoons following the Early Years Foundation Stage 4 Principles;

A unique child - Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-reassured.

Positive Relationships - Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key worker.

Enabling Environments - The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.

Learning & Development - Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.

Our EnvironmentBabies - We understand that this time of a baby's life is very important and so we believe in teaching a baby to learn through the experience of textures, colours, light, sounds & movement. We like to ensure the babies feel the warmth and sense of belonging as they would at home.

Toddlers - We encourage days with routine which will encourage your toddlers to develop their social skills, relationships, natural curiosity & understanding of the world around them. We do this through arts & crafts, story time, cuddles, singing & dancing and role play.

Pre-schoolers - In this area we have more structured days, with days centered around the Early Years Foundation Stage guidelines. Offering opportunities & challenges to enable your child to grow as an individual, to appreciate each other & the opinions of others. We aim to provide your child with the greatest knowledge and confidence to move onto feeder schools.

We consider eating the right food from an early age is very important to your child’s well-being. Our healthy and balanced menu is carefully designed to meet nutritional guidelines for all age groups.

We believe that meal-times do not only involve eating but the social aspect of eating; learning to feed themselves and promoting good table manners.

We prepare home cooked delicious meals and snacks for the children which include a wide range of foods. We aim to use fresh produce where possible and cater for all dietary requirements.

3 meals a day, snacks and drinks are provided within the fee, depending on when you child arrives and leaves. The menu can be found on the Parent’s Notice Board or can be requested.

Breakfast is a selection of breads and healthy cereal served between 7.30am and 8.30am. Mid-morning snacks are served at 10.30am. Lunch is a hot meal with dessert at 11.45am. Afternoon snacks are served at 2.30pm. Afternoon teas are a selection of light hot/cold meals at 4.00pm. Water/Drinks are available throughout the day.

Outdoor play is one of the things that characterize childhood. At Little Raccoons we provide a free-flow facility to the garden and children are able to choose where they most would like to play.

We have an attractive and secure outdoor area full of fun things to explore and opportunities for children to develop their skills.

All our staff are fully CRB checked and have attained the appropriate qualifications.

They go through a meticulous interview stage by our experienced manager who ensures all references & qualifications are checked and validated. We have a continuous appraisal scheme for our staff and are reviewed on a monthly basis to allow for a two-way conversation in which we can discuss openly what areas are in need of improving and new ideas. This comfortable approach transcends to ensure happy staff and happy children at Little Raccoons.

At Little Raccoons we run a Key Worker arrangement, whereby when your child joins us they will be allocated a Key Worker who is introduced to you and your child on the first day.

Your child’s Key Worker’s responsibility will be to build a special relationship with your child and to understand their individual needs. They will let you know at the end of the day what activities your child has been involved in, what development progress they are making and the fun they have had during the day. Their job is to ensure your child is safe and happy with their time at Little Raccoons.

The Key Worker will be your direct point of contact regarding any questions you may have about your child’s time at nursery and will attempt to alleviate any concerns you may have.

We aim to offer care that meets the individual needs of children of different ages.
