County Plans 4 New Schools As Population Keeps Growing
The Prince Georges County Board of Education is planning four new schools for the Greenbelt area: two elementary schools, a junior high, and a senior high. Details of the county school-building program were revealed at a public hearing at Bladensburg Junior High School on March 15. No opposition was voiced to the School Board's proposals.
A site has already been donated for the proposed elementary school in the Spring1hill Lake area. It w.ill have 12 classrooms (as does the existing North End School), and cost $620.000.
Three additional schools are included in the School Board's "Budget Recommendations to .the County Oommlssioners for the Fiscal Year 1965-1966." A 12-room elementary school in the Oharlestowne Village area. will cost $700,000 and be ready for occupancy sometime during ,the period 1966-68. The same period will also ,see completion of a 120().<pupil Junior High School, to cost two and a !half million dollairs, and an 1800-pupil Senior High Sc:hool, to cost well over foUT million dollars. Land baa not yet been acquired for these three schools, but negotiations a:re under way.

The bill would ensure ,that cit>izens would be able to obtain technical staff reports on rezoning a pplica tions at the pla nning board office in Riverdale. Under the bill,
1 all rezoning applica nts would be requiTed to state why they sought a change in land use, a nd wha t they feel justifies the new classification.
Cross-Ex:unination All witnesses appearing at re

Pilot Film Made In County Prince Georges County Detec
tive Li-eutenant Phil Kearns was the special guest speaker at the February meeting of the Greenbelt Democratic Club. Kearns presented a film "Headed for Trouble" which deals with the operations of the P.G.C. Juvenile Bureau, which Lt. Kearns heads.
Kearns stated that, when the Federal Government \fanted to make a pilot film dealing with Juvenile Bureaus, they chose Prince Georges County over all the other bureaus in the country.
The P.G.C. Juvenile Bureau was started in September of 1959 and its staff consisted of two members of the Metropolitan Police force and three from Prince Georges. Currently the Bureau has a staff of twelve. There are 175 police officers in the County.
Of :tlhe 7,000 juvenile cases listed
in 1964, about 50% have been handled through this Bureau. Of these, about 1,200 were actually referred to Coum. A Conference Bureau for parents with p roblem children has also been set up.
Lt. Kea.ms stated t hat P rin ce Geor ges County has one of the finest p robational departments in the country a nd has done a tremendous job in •rehabilitating juveniles.
The film, wh ich runs about thirty minutes, plus a 10 m inute trailer on a panel discussion about <the film, is available for showing at organizational meetings. Con-
