Introducing a range of quality transportable accommodation options.
Utilising innovative design to achieve the smallest footprint possible.
a r c h i t e c t ’ s b r i e f
To design a building with a small footprint which can be placed on a site with limited space.
To be flexible enough for different configurations to suit the client.
Can be assembled and
transported to site, firmly
anchored to the ground
with deep piles.
Through innovative design,
provide compact but
comfortable living
spaces that can be lived
in for extended periods
of time.
Must be removable but still
meet any regulations the
Council may require.

Emphasis on heat conservation and low impact
on environment, with minimal carbon footprint.
High insulation for low cost heating, as we move
towards winter.
Simple, stylish, cost effective home or office
design.
High quality construction materials and interior
fittings and fixtures, to ensure attractive finish
and longevity. Economy version available if
required, also of high standard.
Utilising innovative screw anchor piling system
for deeper, stronger foundations during possible
seismic activity. This system drills down past
the liquefaction layer into solid ground, giving
greater holding. They are also removable and
re-useable.
Our costings have been positive. Looking at what
else is available of the same size and layout, we
feel we are more than competitive.
Due to our design, there is minimal waste of
materials. Because we build off-site, there is
low impact on your land.

Locally sourced, sustainable timber
whenever possible.
Fully insulated units
Double glazing throughout
Gas water heating & cooking
Strong “i” beams under units to provide a
solid base for transport and foundations.
Compliant with NZ building code.
Off-grid solar power options available on
request. (Need details of “use” to design
each system)
Rain water collection tank and connection
available on request. (Note that roof area
is too small to provide all water needs.)
Deck, verandah and/or pergola can be built
as an optional extra, price dependant on size.

We have looked at other uses for these buildings:
Their good looks , fantastic insulation, low cost to
heat and full finish, make them perfect for a variety
of uses:
Excellent for reselling, or kept as a sleep-out or
extra on-site accommodation for boarders or
family members.
Can be moved onto a small section, for a first
home buyer to start on the property ladder.
The building could be moved to another area
for a bach, holiday accommodation or cafe.
Could be utilised as an office space or studio for
people who wish to work from home (e.g. artist
accountant, hair dresser or music teacher).
A stylish backyard 'man shed' or garden studio.
This is not a new concept. After the war there were
hundreds of army huts which are now spread out all
around the country. We think there is strong resale
value and potential.
d e s i g n & c o n c e p t
Our design encompasses all the points
set out in the brief.
Currently, we are exploring modular
concept ideas, providing for expansion
to the unit later on, if the client requires
a larger unit.
Due to the changing needs and tastes
of the public, we can provided other
designs utilising a range of building
materials and floor plans.
Anything outside our basic layout may
incur extra costs, although this may
not always be the case, depending
on materials used.
There is also the option to purchase
a basic shell, taking appliances and
fixtures from the client's existing
home. The potential money-saving
from recycling is a good way to
further reduce the footprint.

All units can be placed on a truck and sent anywhere
in the South Island.
The price will depend on the size and distance. For
example, our eight metre unit costs $4000, Picton
to Christchurch. (Note: if there is an order for two
7m units, the cost will be halved due to 2m units
on the one truck.)
As these units are oversized dimensions, there is a
class two pilot which will accompany the load. This
is included in the above price.
These figures are for transport only and do not
include crane hire at either end.
Due to height restrictions for transport, our designs
must have a parapet roof.
u n i t c o s t
For low impact on your pocket, basic shell units start
at $50,000 including GST increasing with your choice
from our available range of interior fittings and floor-
ings to complete your unit. Though there is potential
for this to change with rising costs of materials and
transport any rise would be relative across the market
and we believe our carefully sourced materials would
still reflect excellent value and quality. With a fully
completed including transportation to Christchurch
starting at around $65.000 including GST.
The use of screw anchor piles is recommended for
Canterbury but will come as a separate cost. This is
because the site suitability will need to be verified
along with depth. Ordinary piles would usually be
acceptable under general circumstances.
Until the site has been checked, the condition of
the services are unknown. Therefore, this cost is
not included in the above figure.
s i t e p r e p a r a t i o n
Our builder will liaise with your local council and
meet any of their specifications. We will also need
to check suitability of the site i.e. access, space
availability and services. Once this is ascertained
and we have clearance, we can prep the site and
place the unit. The goal is to keep this to a minimum
time-frame, so we perceive set-up time as approxi-
mately three days, depending on co-operation from
service providers.
Alternatively, the client may wish to simply purchase
a unit and handle these aspects themselves. We can
work things out to suit the individual.
