This free event is designed for individuals and families who

are new to canoeing to expe-rience the water in safe and

stable voyageur canoes which hold 10 to 15 people. All safety

equipment and trained staff are provided. The event is open to anyone ages 3 and older. Wear comfortable outdoor clothing that can get wet; no flip flops

please. Participants under the age of 18 must have a waiver

signed by a legal guardian. Event is free and open to the public.

Join Jefferson Memorial Forest staff for a family-friendly fall exploration of the property. This event is held in the Horine Reservation, near the Environmental Education Center, and offers a variety of activities showcasing everything the Forest offers. Staff and volunteers will introduce visitors to native plants and animal exhibits. Activities for children will be provided in the Nature Explore area. Climb the 52-foot Alpine Tower, try your hand at archery, and fish on Mitchell Hill Lake! There will be free pumpkins, pumpkin decorating, and hay rides. Food will be available for purchase. A portion of food sales will benefit the Forest. Event is free and open to the public.

You are invited to join with Locust Grove and the Illinois Regiment of Virginia as we bring the spirit of the past alive with the Market Fair. You can participate in 18th-century style entertainment, purchase replicas of 18th-century military and house-hold items, and enjoy food and drink as our founders did, see the pony cart, sheep, and horses, and meet and converse with early Americans. Mock battles for our country’s inde-pendence feature General George Rogers Clark’s own company, the Illinois Regiment of Virginia, as well as British Dragoons and Marines. Experience life 200 years ago by joining the Clark and Croghan families as they celebrate Independence Day 1816. General George Rogers Clark’s soldiers have returned to honor him and all who fought. Remember why we celebrate the Fourth of July by hearing readings of the Declaration of Independence throughout the day. Food and drink will be on sale, or you may bring lunch to enjoy on the grounds.

Locust Grove’s First Person Interpreters recreate a family party, including music and dancing, as the Croghan family of 1816 celebrates the holidays and the return of family and friends! Preparations will include a stop to see a festive meal being made in the hearth kitchen. In the Visitors Center, artisans will give hands-on demonstrations of their historic trades and sell wares. There wil be a book sale, activities for kids, and refreshments will be available. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for children 6-12, free for children under 6.
