Are you part of a Thriving Business Community Online?

We used to go down to the local pub if we wanted to talk to people (some still do Ihear you say)…it sparked a debate on subjects relevant to the people you werewith.. be it work, fashion, music etc. They were often lively, passionate andinformative depending on the amount of beer consumed.

We have over the past decade or so taken someor all of our conversations online, talking topeople online seems to be the norm if you wantto discuss or share information in your chosensubject. It’s easier now than ever to get youropinion heard..it might not be wanted orlistened to, but it is cathartic if nothing else.

An online community is a virtual community whosemembers interact with each other primarily via the Internet. For many, online communities may feel like home,consisting of a “family of invisible friends.”[1]. An online community can act as an information system wheremembers can post, comment on discussions, give advice or collaborate. It is however really important to find the Right online community especially if you need help and support when juststarting out. My first experience when I joined an online business left me reeling. I took a step back and thought“wow” that wasn’t what I was expecting. I had joined a business online thinking the community who supported it would be lively and exciting which it was ..24/7 .. it was too much for me. I was greeted with loud American mendressed in muscle vests telling me what I should be doing and when I should have done it by..and it just didn’t suitmy personality. I had joined the wrong Online Community..my mistake and a lesson learnt. Joining an Online Business is risky as there are many many scams to fall pray to. There are legitimate Businesses,but you need to do your homework. Don’t just settle for the first one you come across which you think may suit youbecause a) It may cost you money and b) You will waste your time..1 month in and thinking I cannot work with thesepeople, then having to start all over again. When you do find the Right Online Community it will be an amazing experience. Meeting (all be it virtually) like-minded people who share your passion. Skype is a must..you can tell if people aren’t genuine. A good Onlinecommunity will have experienced your pain and emerged (a little battered maybe) on the other side wiser andstronger. The community will not tell you to “go Google your question stupid” (not to your face anyway) someone willgive you answer and you go from there. You will gain a whole new circle of friends.

My tips when looking for an Online Business to join:

1) Look for a Business that is over 5 years old – which will have a proven track record.2) If a company is approved by the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) it is genuine, also is it a member of DSA(Direct Selling Association)3) Testimonials will be posted on all good sites ..track one or 2 down and connect on Facebook – ask questions andsee what response you get.4) Contact the Business and ask to speak to the owner (worth a try )or a member who has just joined, What abouttheir Customer Service dept?5) Review the Products that they sell and ask yourself: Would you buy them? are they good Value for money?
