NVQ QUALIFICATION

As part of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme, you will be expected to complete a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Achieving Sporting Excellence.

The NVQ is delivered over a one year period and had been designed specifically with your National Governing Body in order to meet your requirements as an athlete. The NVQ will be a series of workshops that will include the following sections:

- Technical, Tactical and Physical Fitness- Nutrition and Performance- Mental Skills and Performance- Career Planning and Finance- Communication and the Media- Health and Safety

You will also complete a minimum of three 1:1 sessions with your coach, psychologist and nutritionist.

During the workshops you will gather and complete work, also known as evidence, that will build a portfolio of your knowledge and experiences. The evidence will show how you are developing as an elite athlete and how your performance has improved or changed over the one year period.

As part of the NVQ you will also be expected to complete 1:1 progress reviews over a one to two year period. These will be carried out with your tutor either face-to-face or over the phone every 8 to 10 weeks and look at all aspects of the course including your athletic developments, NVQ and technical certificate (BTEC/A Levels).

The 1:1 progress reviews are essential in order to complete the course and you will need to take responsibility in completing these with your tutor in order to remain on the programme.

Unit certificationOnce your assessor has decided that you have produced enough evidence to prove your competence in a unit, they will sign the unit off and you will not need to collect any more evidence for that unit.  A unit certification can be claimed from the awarding body at this point.  This also means that if you drop out of your qualification and have already completed a unit you will gain this certification.

ConfidentialityIn some situations parts of your evidence may involve confidential information, where possible you can remove names, addresses. You can always ask your assessor if you are unsure.

Internal and external verifiersThroughout your course you may come across both internal and external verifiers. Internal verifiers make sure that all assessors judge evidence in the same way and to the same Assessor standard (this is called internal verification). The external verifier is employed by OCR to monitor the quality of assessment and internal verification decision’s at a centre

To study Loughborough Colleges Elite Sport BTEC qualifications, learners do not need to be based close to Loughborough as the vast majority of work can be completed via distance learning using our online resources and assignments.  The main benefits of these programmes are that they can be scheduled around key training and competition periods and normal completion dates extended, from normal expected completion dates used with more traditional delivery at colleges, to allow learners to succeed both in sport and education.  The BTEC sport qualifications best suit elite sport performers as there vocational nature compliment and aid learning that takes place in sport.  So as well as providing a spring board on to higher education and second careers they also can provide underpinning knowledge to aid sporting performance.

The BTEC qualification will take between 18 months and 36 months to complete dependent on the level and course in which you are taking. There are various BTEC qualifications that we offer, the time frame for completion given is a guide only and may be adjusted to suit a learners requirements:

Your progress tutor will arrange an individual induction day with you at the start of the year to cover all the key issues required for successful completion of a BTEC qualification.

As part of this day you will discuss with your Progress Tutor the best methods for you to complete this qualification. However, in general, learners need to be available to study work for at least 2 hours per week, with the exception of periods of important competitions that may prevent this

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

Integrated into the Level 2 BTEC Diploma are a range of Functional Skills which will enable you to develop your skills in Numeracy and Literacy. These are essential in the workplace and are required by all Universities as they represent the equivalent of a GCSE Grade C in Mathematics and English Language.

7

Page 8: Loughborough College - Advanced Apprenticeship … · Web viewThese will be carried out with your tutor either face-to-face or over the phone every 8 to 10 weeks and look at all aspects
