Lost Season 1 Episode 1

Lost Season 1 Episode 2CHARLIEAnything?

JACKYou keep asking me if there's anything.

CHARLIEPardon me for sounding desperate, but before the pilot

was ripped from the cockpit, he did say that no one was

going to find us unless we get that transceiver working.

So, is there anything?

JACKNo.

CHARLIEOkay.

KATEWhat were you doing in the bathroom?

CHARLIEI thought you could tell. I was getting sick. Puking. My one tangible contribution to the trek.

KATENo, I'm glad you came, Charlie.

CHARLIEEvery trek needs a coward.

KATEYou're not a coward.

Flashback ~ Charlie

CINDYAre you alright, sir?

CINDYAlright Sir, excuse me. Excuse me. Sir, excuse

me! Ladies and gentleman, the pilot has switched on the "fasten seatbelt" sign. Please return to your seats and fasten your seatbelts.

FLIGHT ATTENDANT#1Sir, are you alright?

FLIGHT ATTENDANT#1I'm going to have to ask that you open the door, please.. Open the door now, sir. Sir?

Flashback Ends

(((((PART 6(((((

BOONEHey, we're going through some clothes, sorting them. I see you found your bag. C'mon, you want to give us a hand?

SHANNONNot really. You're wasting your time, they're coming.

CLAIREIs that your boyfriend?

SHANNONMy brother, Boone. God's friggin' gift to humanity.

CLAIREI used to have a stomach.

SHANNONYou know what it is?

CLAIRENot yet. I haven't felt the baby move since yesterday.

MICHAELUh, excuse me. Hey, uh, have you, uh, have you seen

my boy?

SUNIm sorry, I cant speak English. I cant speak English.

JINButton up your shirt. Now!

MICHAELIm sorry.

MICHAELWalt! Walt!

WALTVincent! Vincent! Come here boy.

MICHAELHey, what did I tell you, after everything's that's

happened?

WALTI thought that maybe Vincent would be around.

MICHAELI told you to stay on the beach.

WALTThis is so close to the beach I thought that this would be okay.

MICHAELDon't do that. You listen to me. I mean what I say. Do you understand? What is this?

WALTI just found them.

MICHAELCome here.

(((((PART 7(((((

MICHAELHey guys, c'mon.

JACKHey, break it up. Break it up.

SAWYERGet off me!

JACKThats it. Its over.

SAYIDIm sick of this redneck.

SAWYERYou want some more of me, boy?

SAYIDTell everyone what you told me. Tell them that I crashed the plane. Go on, tell them.

SAWYERIf the shoe fits, buddy.

JACKWhats going on?

MICHAELMy kid found these in the jungle.

SAWYERThis guy was sitting in the back row of business class the whole flight, never got up. Hands folded underneath a blanket. And for some reason, just pointing this out, the guy I saw next to him didn't make it.

SAYIDThank you so much for observing my behavior.

SAWYERYou don't think I saw them pull you out of line before we boarded. Cmon, bring it.

KATEStop! We found the transceiver but it's not working. Can anybody help?

SAYIDYes. I might be able to.

SAWYEROh great, perfect, let's trust this guy.

HURLEYHey, we're all in this together, man. Let's treat each other with a little respect.

SAWYERShut up, lardo.

JACKHey, give it a break.

SAWYERWhatever you say, doc. You're the hero.

BOONEYou guys found the cockpit? Any survivors?

JACKNo.

SAYIDIt's dual-band military spec. Chances are the battery is good, but the radio is dead.

KATECan you fix it?

SAYIDI need some time.

ROSEDoctor, the man with the shrapnel, I think you should take a look at him.

HURLEYChain-smoking jackass.

SAYIDSome people have problems.

HURLEYSome people have problems? Us. Him. You're okay. I like you.

SAYIDYou're okay, too.

HURLEYHurley.

SAYIDSayid.

HURLEYHow do you know how to do all that?

SAYIDI was a military communications officer.

HURLEYOh yeah? You ever see battle?

SAYIDI fought in the Gulf War.

HURLEYNo way. I got a buddy who fought over there. He was in the 104th Airborne. What were you, Air force, Army?

SAYIDThe Republican Guard.

SUNExcuse me. It looks like everything is ready.

Go check it out.

KATEIs it working?

SAYIDSeems to be, except we're not picking up a signal.

KATEWhy are you trying to pick up a signal, aren't we

trying to send one?

SAYIDYes, but what you want to see here is little bars. Bars

would show the radio's getting reception.

KATEWe need the bars?

SAYIDWe could broadcast blind, hope that someone, maybe

a ship somewhere picks up our distress call. But thatwould be a waste of the battery, which might not last thatlong. There is one thing we could try.

KATEWhat?

SAYIDSeeing if we could get a signal from high ground.

KATEHow high?

KATEHow is he? Can you do anything?

JACKPull out the shrapnel.

KATEBut you said yesterday that...

JACKI know, but that was yesterday. I was hoping he'd be at a hospital by now. If I leave him like this he'll be dead within a day. If I open him up, if I can control the bleeding, and if he doesn't go into sepsis, and if I can find some antibiotics, he might be alright.

KATEI'm going on a hike.

JACKSorry?

KATESayid fixed the transceiver but we can't use it

Not from here.

JACKKate, wait a minute.

KATEYou said that we have to send out a signal.

JACKLook, you saw what that thing did to the pilot.

KATEYeah, I did. What makes you think we're any safer here than we are in the jungle?

JACKWait for me, I don't know how long...

KATESayid said the battery won't last.

JACKAlright, if you see or hear anything -- anything -- run.

(((((PART 8(((((

JINHere is some food. Try some.

HURLEYWhat's up?

JINThis is sea urchin. Its very delicious. Try it.

HURLEYWhat? That?

JINIf you eat this it will give you energy. Its also good

for your body.

HURLEYWhat? Eat that?

JINJust try one.

HURLEYDude, dude, I'm starving, but I'm nowhere near that hungry. No. No thank you. No way, no.

MICHAELThe comic's in Spanish. Do you read Spanish?

WALTNo. I found it.

MICHAELTell you what, when we get home I'll get you another

dog.

JACKHey, I need your help.

HURLEYOkay.

JACKI need you to help go through the luggage. I need any

kind of prescription medications you can find,

especially things ending in -myacin and -cillin, those

are antibiotics.

HURLEYWhat's this for?

BOONEWhat are you doing?

SHANNONI think I was mean to him.

BOONEWhat?

SHANNONTo that guy from the gate, he wouldn't let us have

our seats in first class. He saved our lives.

BOONEC'mon Shannon. We're trying to clear some of the

wreckage. You should help out. You're just being

worthless over here.

SHANNONI'm being what?

BOONEWhat do you want me to say? You're sitting on your ass staring at bodies.

SHANNONI've just been through a trauma here, okay?

BOONEWe've all been through a trauma. The only difference is, is that since the crash you've actually given yourself a pedicure.

SHANNONYou know what? It is so easy to make fun of me. You're good at it. I get it.

BOONEI wish I didn't have to waste my time making fun of you. I wish I didn't have a reason. And yeah, it is easy, Shannon

SHANNONScrew you, you don't have the slightest idea of what I am thinking.

BOONEI have more of an idea than you think I do.

SHANNONNo, you don't.

BOONEOkay, Shannon. Then what are you thinking?

SHANNONI'm going with them, on the hike.

BOONEOh, yeah?

SHANNONYep. I'm going.

BOONENo you're not. Shannon. Shannon!

SHANNONI'd like to come with you.

BOONEShe's not going -- this is what she does.

SHANNONThe hell I'm not, you don't know what the hell I do.

BOONEShe makes really bad decisions that upset her family,

which at the moment is me.

SHANNONShut up, and stop trying to be charming. I'm coming

with you.

KATEI don't know if that's such a good idea.

SHANNONWhat are you 2 years older than me, please. You're going, aren't you?

CHARLIEYeah, are you?

SHANNONYep.

CHARLIEYeah, I'm definitely going.

KATELook, everybody can come, but we're leaving now.

CHARLIEYou couldn't tell from that, but she's actually really nice.

KATEYou decided to join us.

SAWYERI'm a complex guy, sweetheart.

MICHAELWhat are you looking for?

JACKSome sort of blade. How's your son?

MICHAELWalt? Yeah, I think he'll be alright.

JACKHow old is he?

MICHAEL9 -- 10. 10. Walt's more worried about his dog than

anything. The dog was on the plane, so, kids, you know?

JACKIs it a Lab?

MICHAELYeah.

JACKYeah? I saw him yesterday in the jungle.

MICHAELWhat? Where?

JACKOver there. A couple hundred yards in or so. He looked good.

WALTWhat is it, like checkers?

LOCKENot really, it's a better game than checkers.

You play checkers with your Pop?

WALTNo, I live in Australia with my mom.

LOCKEYou have no accent.

WALTYeah, I know. We move a lot. She got sick.

She died a couple of weeks ago.

LOCKEYou're having a bad month.

WALTI guess.

LOCKEBackgammon's the oldest game in the world. Archeologists found sets when they excavated the ruins of ancient Mesopotamia -- 5,000 years old. That's older than Jesus Christ.

WALTDid they have dice and stuff?

LOCKEBut theirs weren't made of plastic. Their dice were made of bones.

WALTCool.

LOCKETwo players. Two sides. One is light, one is dark. Walt, do you want to know a secret?

JINThis is sea urchin, eat some.

CLAIRENo, thank you, no. That's okay.

JINYou should eat some because of the baby. Try some. Eat.

CLAIREOkay, thanks.

JINIts delicious isnt it? Eat one more.

CLAIREOh, god.

JINWhat? Are you okay?

CLAIREI just felt it.

JINAre you okay?

CLAIRECome here, feel this.

JINNo thank you. I dont want to. Stop. I dont want to.

CLAIREDo you feel that? That right there, thats a kick. There, right there, there's a foot. Hey, he's moving around. He. He. I guess I think you're a he.

SAWYEROkay, wide open space. You should check the radio, see if we're good.

SAYIDWe're not going to have any reception here.

SAWYERJust try it.

SAYIDI don't want to waste the batteries.

SAWYERI'm not asking you to keep it on all day.

SAYIDWe're still blocked by the mountain.

SAWYERJust check the damn radio.

SAYIDIf I just check we might not have any juice left when we get to...

SHANNONOh my god.

BOONEWhat the hells that?

KATESomething's coming.

CHARLIEIt's coming towards us I think.

KATEC'mon, let's move.

SHANNONI shouldn't have come on this hike!

KATESawyer.

SAYIDLet him go.

SHANNONThat's.thats a big bear.

BOONEThink that's what killed the pilot?

CHARLIENo, no that's a tiny, teeny version compared to that.

KATEGuys, this isn't just a bear. It's a polar bear.

(((((PART 9(((((

HURLEYYou sure he's out?

JACKHe's out.

HURLEYHow do you know he won't wake up when you yank

that thing out?

JACKI don't.

HURLEYHey, guy, you awake? Yo, there's a rescue plane, we're

saved. Yay! Yeah, he's out. So what do you want me to

JACKLook, it's unlikely that he'll regain consciousness but thepain might bring him around. And if it does I need you to hold him down.

HURLEYUhh, I'm not so good around blood.

JACKThen don't look.

HURLEYYeah, but I'm not so good around blood.

JACKJust do the best you can, okay? Don't look.

HURLEYDude.

JACKHand me those strips.

HURLEYDude.

JACKJust hand me the strips I need to get this bleeding stopped.

HURLEYI don't think I can. Oh, what, what, what's going on? Is something in there?

JACKThe strips just hand me the strips, give them to me. Hurley, don't even think about it. Hey! Damn it!

BOONEThat can't be a polar bear.

SAYID + KATEIt's a polar bear.

SHANNONYeah, but polar bears don't usually live in a jungle.

CHARLIESpot on.

SAYIDPolar bears don't live near this far south.

BOONEThis one does.

SAWYERDid. It did.

KATEWhere did that come from?

SAWYERProbably bear village. How the hell do I know?

KATENot the bear, the gun.

SAWYERI got if off one of the bodies.

SAYIDOne of the bodies?

SAWYERYeah, one of the bodies.

KATEPeople don't carry guns on planes.

SAWYERThey do if they're a U.S. Marshal, sweet cheeks. There was one on the plane.

KATEHow do you know that?

SAWYERI saw a guy lying there with an ankle holster so I took the gun, thought it might come in handy. Guess what? I just shot a bear.

KATESo why do you think he's a Marshal?

SAWYERBecause he had a clip-on badge. I took that too, thought it was cool.

SAYIDI know who you are. You're the prisoner.

SAWYERI'm the what?

SAYIDYou found a gun on a U.S. Marshal? Yes, I believe you did. You knew where it was because you were the one he was bringing back to the States. Those handcuffs were on you. That's how you knew there was a gun.

SAWYERPiss off.

SAYIDThat's who you are you son-of-a-bitch.

SAWYERYou're as suspicious of me as I am of you.

SAYIDBut you are the prisoner.

SAWYERFine, I'm the criminal. You're the terrorist. We can all play a part. Who you want to be?

KATEDoes anybody know how to use a gun?

CHARLIEI think you just pull the trigger.

SAYIDDon't use the gun.

KATEI want to take it apart.

CHARLIEOh.

SAYIDThere's a button on the grip. Push that, it will eject the magazine. There's still a round in the chamber, hold the grip, pull the top part of the gun.

SAWYERI know your type.

KATEI'm not so sure.

SAWYERYeah, I've been with girls like you.

KATENo girls exactly like me.

FLIGHT ATTENDANT#2Can I get you a refill?

KATENo. I'm fine with this. Thank you.

FLIGHT ATTENDANT#2You sir, can I get you anything? Cocktail? Soda?

MARSHALJust coffee sweetheart, black.

FLIGHT ATTENDANT#2Coffee, sure.

MARSHALYou look worried. I'd be worried, too, I was you. But you've got to stay positive, kiddo. You know, there's always that off chance that they'll believe your story. I know I sure did.

KATEI don't care what you believe.

MARSHALOh, I know that's true. That has always been true. You sure you don't want some more juice?

KATEYeah, I'm sure.

PLANE SPEAKERLadies and gentleman, the pilot has switched on the "fasten seatbelt" sign. Please return to your seats and fasten your seatbelts.

KATEI have one favor to ask.

MARSHALReally? This ought to be good.

SAYIDWe should keep moving.

JACKNo!

MARSHALWhere is she?

JACKWho?

SAWYEROh, now's a good time to check the radio. Not before, but now.

SAYIDWe're up higher.

SAWYERYes, we are.

SAYIDA bar. Hey, we've got a bar. Mayday, mayday.

KATEWhat is that?

SAYIDFeedback.

KATEFeedback from what? What would do that?

SAYIDI don't know.

SAWYERI'll tell you what would do that. This guy not fixing the radio. This thing doesn't even work.

SAYIDNo, no, no, no, no. It's not broken. We can't transmit because something else is already transmitting.

CHARLIETransmitting from where?

SHANNONWhat?

SAYIDSomewhere close. The signal's strong.

CHARLIESomewhere close, you mean on the island, that's great.

BOONEMaybe it's other survivors?

SHANNONFrom our plane, how would they even

SAWYERWhat kind of transmission is it?

SAYIDIt could be a SAT phone, maybe a radio signal...

KATECan we listen to it?

SAYIDLet me get the frequency first, hold on.

SAWYERThere's no transmission.

KATEShut up.

CHARLIEThe rescue party, it has to be. It's French, the French are coming. I've never been so happy to hear the French.

KATEI never took French, what is she saying?

SAYIDDoes anyone speak French?

BOONEShe does.

SHANNONNo, I don't. What?

BOONEWhat the hell are you talking about? You spent a year in Paris.

SHANNONDrinking, not studying.

RADIOIteration 7294531.

CHARLIEOkay, what's that?

SAYIDOh, no, no, no, no.

KATENo, no, no, what?

SAYIDThe batteries are dying.

KATEHow much time do we have?

SAYIDNot much.

BOONEI've heard you speak French. Listen to this. Listen to it.

SHANNONI can't.

SAWYERYou speak French, or not? Because that would be nice.

RADIOIteration 17...

CHARLIEThat voice is weird. What is that?

SHANNONIt's repeating.

SAYIDShe's right.

BOONEWhat?

SAYIDIt's a loop. Iteration, it's repeating the same message. Its a counter- the next number will end 533.

RADIOIteration 17294533.

SAWYERDoes anyone know what the hell he's talking about?

SAYIDIt's a running count of the number of times the message has repeated. It's roughly 30 seconds long so, how long...?

SAWYERDon't forget to carry the 1, chief.

SHANNONShe's saying, please she's saying "Please help me.

Please come get me."

SAWYEROr, she's not. You don't even speak French.

KATELet her listen.

BOONEShut up man.

CHARLIEGuys, the battery. The battery.

RADIOIteration 17294535.

SHANNONI'm alone now, on the island alone. Please someone come. The others, they're, they're dead. It killed them. It killed them all.

BOONEThat was good.

SAYID16 years.

SAWYERWhat?

SAYID16 years and 5 months, that's the count.

BOONEWhat the hell are you talking about?

SAYIDThe iterations. It's a distress call, a plea for help, a mayday. If the count is right it's been playing over and over for 16 years.

BOONESomeone else was stranded here?

KATEMaybe they came for them?

SAWYERIf someone came why is it still playing?

CHARLIEGuys, where are we?
