a national committee that selects the recipient for the Academia Award from universities. 2005 CHAIRMAN, International Conference on Inter-Disciplinary Research,

Lusaka 2003 CHAIRMAN, Conference on Inter-Disciplinary Research, Lusaka 2000-2003 CHAIRMAN, Zambia Air Services Training Institute (ZASTI)

Management Board. ZASTI conducts training courses for air traffic controllers, pilots, ground crew and aircraft technicians.

2000-2001, CHAIRMAN, Kabwe Tanning and Leather Co Technical Committee. The Committee oversees the technical aspects of the company.

1999 –2002 CHAIRMAN, National Science and Technology Council of Zambia (NSTC). As first Chairman of NSTC, the initial task was to put in place the Secretariat with the necessary Human Resource, Equipment and other Operational Requisites. The NSTC was set up by an Act of Parliament to implement the policies of Government on Science and Technology. It embraces all scientific and technological institutions, including Universities. It also oversees the activities of the former National Council for Scientific Research, now National Institute for Scientific and Industrial Research (NISIR) the Technology Business Centre and Technology Development Fund. NSTC is responsible for accrediting Research Institutions and setting up new ones.

1999 CHAIRMAN, First National Conference on Recent Advances in Engineering Research and Development, Lusaka, 1999. The Conference brought together engineers and allied professionals for two days to present papers on the recent development in the field. It is one of the few locally organised conferences where proceedings have been published and made available to participants during the conference. Due to its success the participants unanimously agreed to hold the conference annually. The Conference was jointly organised by the School of Engineering and the Engineers’ Registration Board.

1997 DELEGATION LEADER for JETS Zambia, Expo Science Internationale for Young Scientists, Pretoria, South Africa. The Expo was attended by about, 50 countries from both developed and developing countries.

1994-2001 NATIONAL CO-ORDINATOR, Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS) Organization. In charge of the organization embracing all Science and Mathematics Clubs in Primary and Secondary Schools in Zambia. JETS has a membership of about 20,000 pupils and their Mathematics and Science Teachers. I have successfully organised Annual Regional and National Science fairs. The Patron of JETS is the President of Zambia, Mr. FTJ Chiluba.
