These guidelines shall be provided to every POD team member/volunteer and training on its content must be conducted daily with every team member/volunteer at the start of POD operations.

● Each POD Leader is responsible for site assessment and establishing and maintaining operations that adhere to public health and related guidelines as outlined below.

● POD Leaders shall monitor and control the distribution of gloves, masks, and other personal protective equipment supplies to ensure POD has adequate supply to meet needs.

● The guidelines outlined below are a compilation of materials available on the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health website: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/media/Coronavirus/. Select “daily press releases” from the “Latest News” menu drop for updates and additional details.

● The cafeteria manager will ensure that food safety guidelines are followed. ● The plant manager or other custodial staff will ensure that existing and enhanced

sanitation/disinfection guidelines are followed. ● The Safety Officer will oversee and ensure compliance of all Health and Safety Guidelines (see attached

Safety Officer Checklist).

Three S Safety

These guidelines are divided into three categories: Screening, Sanitation, and Social Distancing. It is up to every POD team member/volunteer to use the Three S’s to protect their health and the health of others.

Screening of Team Members/Volunteers

Upon arrival, employees/volunteers are to check-in daily with the POD leader. The POD leader shall ask, in private, each person the following questions:

1. Have you been out of the country in the last 14 days? 2. Have you had contact with anyone confirmed to have COVID-19 in the last 14 days? 3. Have you had any of these symptoms in the last 14 days?

a. Fever greater than 100 degrees b. Difficulty breathing c. Cough

4. Have you taken medication to reduce fever in the last 14 days?

* IF EMPLOYEE/VOLUNTEER ANSWERS “YES” to any screening question, they may not participate and shall inform the POD leader that they did not pass the screening test, leave the site immediately and contact their primary healthcare provider.

Sanitation/Disinfection Guidelines

In addition to already required food safety guidelines, sites should adhere to the additional guidelines provided by the Department of Public Health.

Avoid cross contamination by not touching surfaces or objects (i.e., personal cell phones) that have not been sanitized. If you touch any surface or object that is not sanitized, remove gloves, if any, and wash/dry hands immediately before proceeding with POD activities. Handwashing Instructions for all POD team members/volunteers

● Ensure sinks or hand wash stations are available and well-stocked with soap and paper towels at all times.

● Wash hands and arms with soap and water (See image below) for at least 20 seconds then dry hands throughout the day before and after:

○ Eating or drinking ○ Preparing food ○ Putting on and taking off gloves and face masks ○ Using the restroom

● Wash hands after direct contact with people believed to be ill or handling the belongings of ill persons. ● Post handwashing signs as visual reminders. ● Recommend using gloves appropriately as an additional tool, but it is important to remember that

gloves do not replace the need to wash hands and practice good hand hygiene. ● Hand sanitizer with an alcohol content of at least 60% may be used, but hand washing is the preferred

method for sanitizing one’s hands according to the Public Health Department.

Gloves ● Gloves shall be worn when handling food and food items, such as utensils and napkins. ● Wash hands before putting on gloves and after taking them off. ● Gloves act as a barrier against the skin from contaminants and droplets. Acceptable gloves may be

made from different materials such as latex, vinyl, nitrile, etc. ● Do not touch your face when wearing gloves and do not reuse gloves ● Change gloves that are soiled or damaged/torn and after touching non-food items or your face. ● Remove gloves so that the outside of the glove (the dirty side), does not contact your bare hands (See

image below).

Face Masks

● Disposable face masks (surgical masks) protect the wearer from droplets that might be infectious. They are intended for one-time use.

● Face masks are not required to be worn for food distribution, but are optional and may be available to all POD team members/volunteers.

● Secure by bringing both top ties to the crown of the head and tie with a bow. Bottom ties should be secured at the nape of the neck. Do not crisscross ties.

● For ear loop masks, secure behind both ears. Do not leave hanging off one ear. ● Masks should cover the nose and mouth. ● Do not wear a wet or soiled mask. ● Do not touch the front of the mask. ● Properly dispose of the mask by touching only the ear loops or ties. For masks with ties, untie the

bottom ties first, then the top ties. ● Wash hands after removing the mask.

General Cleaning

● Have a custodial staff person clean and disinfect tables, counters, carts, trays, doorknobs, phones, computers stations and other “high-touch” surfaces regularly throughout the day.

● Staff should not share items whenever possible. Ensure that pens, clipboards, devices and other available materials are designated per person.

● Use an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered product that cleans (removes germs) and disinfects (kills germs). Always follow the instructions on the labels of cleaning products and disinfectants.

Effective Disinfectants (For use by custodial staff)

● Commonly used disinfectants at schools are Maintex NDC-128, Medic Neutral Disinfectant Cleaner and QT 3RTU. A list of approved disinfectants is attached.

● Be sure to follow the directions on the label for contact times. Some products must remain wet for 10 minutes to effectively kill the virus.

● To make a bleach solution, mix 1 tablespoon of bleach to 1 quart (4 cups) of water. For a larger supply, add ¼ cup of bleach to 1 gallon (16 cups) of water. Use the solution within 20 minutes.

● Other EPA-approved disinfectants may be used if they are effective against Coronaviruses. Consumers may contact the 1-800-number on product labels for its effectiveness against “COVID-19” or visit https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2.

Proper Handling of Disinfectants, Items and Waste (For use by custodial staff)

● Use chemicals in a well-ventilated area. ● Do not mix incompatible chemicals such as bleach and ammonia products (read label before use). ● Prevent chemical contact with food during cleaning. ● Manage waste safely and dispose in a secure trash container.

School Device Distribution Safety Guidelines Update

All employees and volunteers are expected to adhere to the below standards, which are based on Los Angeles

County Department of Public Health guidance.

Online process option has been added which allows schools to replace the need for paper forms.

Possible Options for Providing Responsible Use Policy and Parent Acknowledgement Forms

1. Paperless Device Distribution and Responsible Use Form

If you already have a process in place for distribution of devices or collecting forms please continue to

use your process.

This form was created so that parents have access to submit an online request for technology including

devices and mifi. The form will also allow schools the capability to receive the Responsible Use Policy

and Parent Acknowledgement Form online. The form will create a temporary mechanism for schools to

record the LAUSD asset tag as well as MiFi Personal Wireless device information prior to device

checkout to families in the event that the IT Asset Management System is unavailable.

Please use Optional Paperless Device Distribution and Responsible Use Form Job Aide for instructions.

2. Using Paper Forms for Responsible Use Policy and Parent Acknowledgement

When dealing with paper copies and for the distribution of devices ensure that you follow the best

practices below:

If you are able to share documents in advance to parents via email, schoology, class dojo, google

classroom, etc. Please do so and have parents/guardians print and fill out forms in advance prior to

coming to the school site if possible.

If you are handing out forms to parents at the school site, have gloved staff place forms on table one

parent at a time.

Do not place stacks of forms for parents to take from. Have gloved staff place forms on table one

parent at a time.

Do not re-use pens or pencils. Once it is used, have parents place pens or pencils in a collection box to

be stored and sanitized for later use.

Once forms are signed by parents, visually verify signatures, then have parent place forms in

designated collection box (any box can be used as a collection box).

Once all forms have been collected, the collection box is to be stored in a secure dry storage area for a

minimum of 2 weeks.
