Principal’s Report
Welcome back to term 4! This will be a very special and enjoyable term for
all students with many having their current teacher for the last time or some
even finishing up their primary school lives. We have been really delighted
with how the students have come back with an enthusiastic attitude to work.
This term promises to be huge with all the end of year activities starting to
take off already with casting for our End of Year Concert occurring Friday.
The holidays gave all the students a chance to freshen up for Term 4 but
also allowed some further building works to occur at the school. The self
sustainable solar energy system is now installed and producing power. One
day this week it produced over 16kw of electricity which is roughly what
two households would use in a day. This project was funded by the federal
government through the National Solar Schools Program, the Board through
their Community Grants Program and our P&C. Thank you to all those
bodies for making such an important vision come to fruition. We also have
new guttering on the Infants room and nearly a new deck on the Primary
classroom verandah. Wrighty and Kate also aerated, fertilized and top
dressed the lawn which is looking ready to host a summer of cricket.
Mr Morris, Mrs Tofaeono and I will be away on Monday, returning Tuesday
to conduct the interviews for the new class teacher for 2010-11. We hope to
announce more about this soon. Have a great couple of weeks. Cheers,
Julian

Basketball Competition - Congratulations to the
RED team which defeated the BLUE team in the
grand final. The winning team consisted of Kayla
Hiscox, Luke Wright, Anna Charlton Shick,
Charlotte Tofaeono and Harry Glackin.
Uniforms and Hats - Mrs Higgins will be placing
all uniform orders for 2010 on December 1. If you
are hoping to buy any uniforms for the upcoming
school year please come and get a uniform order
sheet from the office and return it before the end of
November. A reminder that our school uniform
consists of a bucket school hat. Please ensure that
your child’s hat is labeled so that your child can
find their hat amongst the Bermuda Triangle of
School Hats that our school can sometimes be.
Book Fair - The second and final Book Fair for the
year will be on soon. It will be held in the library
on Thursday and Friday of Week 3 which is the 5th
and 6th of November. This is a great chance to get
some Christmas present fillers and provide hours of
meaningful entertainment.
Movember - The SRC’s latest fundraising idea is
to support the teachers participate in Movember.
Student’s will be designing the style of moustache
that would look best (or worst) on Mr Mostert and
Mr Morris. They will also be designing the hair
design of their choice for Mrs Tilbrook, Mrs
Tofaeono and late recruit, Mrs Morris, to produce
and wear for the last week in November. This is a
giant commitment by the staff so we are
encouraging all people to donate as much as they
can to the cause. Student’s designs are to be
entered on the attached sheet and accompanied by a
donation. Cheques can be made out to the school.
Thank you for helping fight the leading cause of
death amongst Australian men - prostate cancer.
Entry forms are due back by Friday, October 30.
Welcome to Lord Howe - The school would like
to welcome Ella Ford back to the school. Ella is
in Year 1 and has settled well into Mrs Tilbrook’s
class. She is here while her dad, Stuart looks after
us all as our nurse at the hospital.
Kindergarten 2010 Transition Program - The
transition to School Program for all children
eligible to start school in 2010 begins next
Tuesday, October 27. Thank you to Mrs Tilbrook
for the considerable organization needed to
ensure that all students starting school in 2010
feel comfortable and excited about beginning
their primary school life.
School Photos - Kenny Lees has now edited and
compiled the school photos for this year. Similar
to last year, the photos will be available from the
front office. Parents are asked to come and collect
their A3 sheet of photos. A guillotine cutter and
folders will also be provided if parents wish to cut
them at school to take home.
Library Refurbishment - Tenders for the
refurbishment of the library closed yesterday. We
should know within a few weeks of the timing
and logistics of the library upgrade.
Justin Dath Visit - Justin Dath, the high action
writer for junior readers was here for the first two
days of term to conduct some writing workshops
with our students. This was a great opportunity for
many of our young writers, especially those in
Years 3-6, to improve upon their current writing.
His entertaining story about how he became a
writer and his descriptive reading provided a great
example for our students, especially as they prepare
for casting for the school play.
Last Day of Term - The last day of this term for
students will be Wednesday, December 16. The
department has introduced two staff development
days at the end of the year which will mean that
staff will finish on Friday, December 20. The
Annual Presentation night anD School Concert will
be held on Tuesday, December 15 commencing at
6:30pm.
Library Book returns - Mrs Tofaeono is required
to stocktake all resources in our library which will
take place prior to our BER Library refurbishment.
Mrs T has asked that all reference books borrowed
are returned to the school by the end of Week 3,
November 5. Mrs T will be contacting parents to
arrange times to help her with the packing of these
resources before the next step of fiction and picture
books gets underway.
P&C Meeting - The next meeting for P&C will be
a special meeting on October 26 at 7:30pm in the 3
-6 classroom. The extraordinary meeting will
finalise the Yachties BBQ details amongst other
issues.
Thank you,
A refreshed Leanne, Craig and Julian
Gold Day and Assembly #2 - The last day of
Term 3 was a terrific Gold Day. Students all wore
red to support the Daniel Morcombe Foundation
which raised awareness around child protection.
Students did a range of team building activities
which complemented their child protection
studies before embarking on a feast fit for a king
with a few giant meat and vege-loaves created .
After their sumptuous feasts the students were
allocated new dental hygiene packs courtesy of
the federal government’s dental health program.
They made their breath minty fresh before each
receiving a cricket playing shirt courtesy of the
NSW Primary School Sports Association. The
students played a range of cricket tabloid games
before scampering off for a great break.
Attendance Note reminder - A gentle reminder
that you as parents and we as staff members are
legally required to provide evidence of why a
child is absent from school. If your child does not
attend school for any reason, please provide a
note explaining why. Thanks!
Tennis Camp - Despite the winter weather for
the October holidays, the tennis camp was a
sensational success. Congratulations to the P&C
for again organising such a positive event. I saw a
fair few two handed backhands from the students
which would have left a hole in the strings of my
racket if I was playing them. Well done everyone!
Buzzing Bees - If the bees weren’t bad enough (5
students were stung at lunch), we also have some
residue materials from all the building works
which have taken place at the school. In the
interim, we are encouraging all children to please
wear footwear during their time at school.
