LOOPER

Looper• Looper is a 2012 American neo-noir science fiction thriller film written

and directed by Rian Johnson, and produced by Ram Bergman and James D. Stern. It stars Bruce Willis, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emily Blunt. It revolves around criminal syndicates using contracted killers called "loopers" to kill victims sent through time travel.

Storyline

• $176.5 million on a $30 million budget, and receiving critical acclaim.

• In 2044, 25-year-old Joe works for a Kansas City crime syndicate as a "looper." Since future technology has made it near-impossible to dispose of bodies, the syndicate uses time travel, invented thirty years later and outlawed instantly. Managed by a future man named Abe Mitchell, loopers kill and dispose of face-concealed victims, and are paid with silver bars strapped to the target. To prevent connections to the syndicate, loopers kill their future selves with gold bars strapped to them when they retire, effectively ending the contract and "closing the loop".

The fact that the two characters fill the entire frame indicate to the audience that they are the main characters of the film. Their bodies are vertically mirrored/parallel which is a unknown reference to the plot and how they are the same person from different timelines.

Joseph Gordon Levitt isn’t looking directly at the audince which could be connotedas him having alternative motives or different goals from Bruce Willis . Bruce on the other hand is looking straight at the audience which connotes that he knows what he wants. However, because Bruce is portrayed as upside down in this image it might connote that his view is twisted or he is disorientated.

The “O” being turned into a clock is a hint about the plot and how time travel plays a big part in the film.

You may notice that both actors are wearing leather jackets, although Bruce’s is more worn and is losing its colour. This is yet another hint towards them being the same person.

Along with Gordon and Bruce another name is credited, “ Emily Blunt” who is a well known actress . This will lead to the audience question the role that she plays in the film and why wasn’t she shown in the poster.

The eerie statements by the side of both actors is very relatable for most people ,with them having memories they’d like to forget and an uncertain future they aren’t sure about.

The release date informs the viewer when they should look out for the film. The writer and directors name being mentioned is to draw in any of their fans.

Wayne Gretzky

The font is simple yet bold, but the main thing that standouts to me is how it is spaced out and is connoting the time difference between the two main characters. This is especially blatant with the two clock hands inside the “O”.The actors names are

reasonably small when compared to the title of the film, this is done to make the title standout. However, the names are still apparent because they are all three famous actors who’s fans will be attracted to see the film.

These catchy taglines have been used to entice the audience and make them question what they mean making them need the answer, and so have to see the film.
