    The importance of water

    80% of the human body is made up of water. Water is crucial element of our food and

    materials 75% of the earths surface is covered with

    water. only 3%, is fresh. Only1% of the water is available for human

    consumption. Much of this water contain chemicals making it

    inappropriate for human consumption. We distinguish between water quality andquantity problems.

    On average we have sufficient water to meethuman needs. The problem is waterdistribution.

    A WB report(Annual report 2010) states that watersupply in Pakistan has fallen from 5,000 cubic metersper capita to 1,000 cubic meters in 2010, and islikely to further reduce to 800 cubic meters per

    capita by 2020

    Surface WaterIndus Basin River

    The Indus river basin constitutes of themountain basins Indus plain, Karachiplains and desert areas of Sindh. Itssource of water is snowing, glacier meltingand rainfalls.

    It consists of areas of mountain basins ofQuetta. Its main sources of water arerainfall and nominal snow.

    people to head towards urban areas forjobs, which will increase theunemployment further.

    The distribution of water is controlledfrom the center by irsa (Indus riversystem authority) as per 1991

    agreement between the provinces. Nowthe shortage of water will causedisputes between the provinces, which

    may cause harm to the nationalinte rit .
