Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it

Page 2: Looking back to your preliminary task what

My contents page is limited due to the fact I did not have the correct skilled programme to use when constructing it. The wording and numbered need to be lined correctly as they look un professional and messy. The font also has little thought due to the technology used and the photo’s are taken with little thought and planning. The audience in this page has not been taken into consideration which can be seen straight away. For a young target audience the style, layout, and colours do not attract them. The page lacks style and is very boring with no real interest to the audience. The background of the images also have little thought and the text and colour scheme does not follow a particular theme.

My contents page challenges many conventions of real pop magazine products. The colour scheme, layouts, wording and theme fit perfectly with my girly young target audience. By using a technical programme it has allowed me to create a much better product. The little detail such as the numbers lined correctly, the font, colours and pictures and website and numbered page added all adds to ensuring my contents page attracts the audience. By planning much more into the images and layout it has made my contents page seem much more professional than before.

In my finished piece I have research a lot into what attracts the audience and what conventions are used on front page pop magazines. The main image has been given a lot more thought giving direct address and using the uses and gratifications to the audience. I have also by using photo shop rather than Microsoft have been able to edit text, the pictures and colours to make my end piece much more successful. By giving a lot of thought into the page it makes a lot of different to the audiences interpretation and interest to the magazine as a whole. Little detail such as the barcode, website and price makes the magazine much more professional. The mast head looks much more professional also due to the skills I have learned and the technology. Overall I believe my progress has come out of the use of the programme and also the research put into the front cover.

When looking at my preliminary task I can see that compared to my finished piece it lacks any real media conventions and any real attraction. Due to the fact I used Microsoft and had no real additional research it does look limited. The main image doesn’t draw the audience in due to the in direct address and it also has not been edited. The colour scheme also doesn't’t fit in with the target audience of school children and the red text over the picture can not be seen clearly and is too long. In a whole the front page is very bare with not much detail which makes it very boring and un interesting to anyone who would read it. However I did take into consideration to put a website on the front of the page as well as the issue but with no other detail such as a barcode or price which is also essential. The mast head is also very boring and simple with no attraction which makes it look unprofessional this is due to the programme and my lack of skills.

I think during the time we have had to research, plan and construct our magazine has definitely made an impact on the progress from my preliminary task. Comparing the two products I can safely say there has been a massive improvement in my work. Just by looking at the difference in the construction I can see that with challenging and using pop genre magazine conventions I have made a big difference in my final outcome of the piece. I have learned that the research into genres of music magazines, the conventions, the audiences interpretation, colours, fonts and layouts used is essential in constructing a effective end product.

When constructing my preliminary task I put in no thought to much research, image planning or anything that I considered in the making of my final magazine. I also did not have the correct programmes and technologies to make a clear product that will attract audiences. The style, layout and construction of this piece looks like it could have been produced on Microsoft as it lacks high ability, style, techniques and conventions.

For my final construct I had thought more about the audience, the positioning of the models and what exact pictures I was going to put in different places, including direct address which I didn’t use in my preliminary task. I found that after taking part in an audience survey and finding many different results I could find exactly what people wanted to see in my magazine and this helped me massively in creating an effective end piece that was successful to attract my target audience and also looked professional.
