In addition to spending quality time with her grandson, she enjoys taking relaxing walks down the Erie Shore to Sims Park and tending to the plants on her balcony that she calls her "flower garden." Judith also looks forward to traveling more frequently, and she already has plans to visit Washington DC this winter to see the recently opened and critically acclaimed Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Friends would describe her as caring, true to her word, and a leader who thinks for herself, all qualities she hopes to instill in her grandson. Judith has lived here at Normandy Towers for four years and plans on staying for many more. She loves the spectacular view from her balcony, our upgraded mailboxes, and our new state-of-the-art elevators. Judith also appreciates how our grounds are always so well maintained and especially how we plant and nurture our own outdoor "flower garden" each spring and summer. WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS

A TIME FOR REFLECTION

The arrival of December means that we

are almost ready to close the book on

one year and lift open the cover on the

next. It is a perfect time for reflecting on

the past and making resolutions for the

future. We at Normandy Towers hope

that this year has been your best yet,

and we applaud your resolutions to

make next year even better!

SPHERES OF OPPORTUNITY

When it comes to resolutions, all of us

have opportunities for growth in every

sphere of our lives. We may want to set

new goals for our personal wellbeing,

whether physical, emotional, or

spiritual. Perhaps we feel that our

relationships with friends and family

could be more positive and meaningful

than they have been in the past. Last,

but not least, we may wish to become

more involved in our communities and

play a more active role in improving the

world around us. Whatever you decide

is important to you, we encourage you

to make the most of your opportunities.

OUR PLEDGE TO YOU

At Normandy Towers, we aim for

excellence year round. Our pledge to

you, our valued residents, is to continue

to provide the top-quality service and

warm, welcoming community for which

Normandy is so well known. That's our

resolution for this year and every year!

Judith Beauford

Judith is learning to love life in retirement after working for thirty years at the Head Start program

for children and families. In addition to spending quality time with her grandson, she enjoys taking

relaxing walks down the Erie Shore to Sims Park and tending to the plants on her balcony that

she calls her "flower garden." Judith also looks forward to traveling more frequently, and she

already has plans to visit Washington DC this winter to see the recently opened and critically

acclaimed Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Friends would

describe her as caring, true to her word, and a leader who thinks for herself, all qualities she

hopes to instill in her grandson. Judith has lived here at Normandy Towers for four years and plans

on staying for many more. She loves the spectacular view from her balcony, our upgraded

mailboxes, and our new state-of-the-art elevators. Judith also appreciates how our grounds are

always so well maintained and especially how we plant and nurture our own outdoor "flower

garden" each spring and summer. Thank you, Judith, for being a part of our Normandy family!

IT'S TIME TO GET CRAFTY

The Euclid Public Library’s Craft Club meets

each month to explore the work of a

celebrated early 20th century artist and

create handmade crafts based on that

artist’s unique style. Past projects include

paper collages inspired by Emily Carr’s iconic

Western Canadian landscapes and

diorama-like scenes based on Edwards

Hopper’s innovative use of windows in his

paintings. This month, the Craft Club will meet

on December 11 from 7-8pm to examine the

vibrant, dreamlike work of Marc Chagall. The

class will focus on his colorful stained glass

windows and their use of symbolism to

express themes of peace, love, tolerance

and faith. Registration is required and space

is limited. Call the Library at 261-5300 to

reserve your spot and start getting crafty.

4 POUNDS SWEET POTATOES

8 SPRIGS THYME

6 TABLESPOONS BUTTER

1/4 CUP MAPLE SYRUP

SALT TO TASTE

Adjust oven rack to center position. Cut

two large sheets of heavy-duty aluminum

foil. Place half of potatoes in center of foil

sheet along with 3 sprigs of thyme. Fold up

foil and crimp edges to seal tightly. Repeat

with other half of potatoes. Transfer foil

pouches to a rimmed baking sheet and

place in oven. Set oven to 300°F and roast

until fork tender, about 2 hours. Remove

from oven and set aside to cool. Melt

butter in a medium saucepan over

medium-low heat, swirling gently until

golden brown. Immediately transfer to a

large bowl and add maple syrup. Roughly

chop leaves of remaining thyme sprigs,

peel potatoes, and add both to bowl.

Whisk until smooth and fluffy, about 2

minutes. Add salt to taste, and serve this

naturally sweet and lightly herbaceous dish

alongside any main course any "thyme."

IS THE FORCE STRONG WITH YOU?

The next installment in the epic Star Wars film

franchise is right around the corner. In

anticipation of the film’s release, children in

grades 1-6 are invited to a special “The Last Jedi”

party on Thursday, December 14 from 7-8pm at

the Euclid Public Library. The event will feature a

variety of games and activities related to the Star

Wars universe. Kids who dress up as their favorite

character, be it Skywalker or stormtrooper, droid

or Wookie, will receive a galactically cool prize.

Space is limited, so be sure to register in advance.

Tips for Better Living The Gift of Giving (adapted from www.doinggoodtogether.com)

So much is made of shopping for the perfect holiday gift that we forget that the best things

in life are, indeed, free. A handwritten, heartfelt card may mean a lot more to a loved one

than the most expensive new gadget. The same is true when it comes to giving to those in

need. Donations are always welcome, but a gift from the heart is especially appreciated

during the holidays. An estimated 3 million people spend the holidays in hospitals or other

care centers, yet 60% of them receive no visitors at all. Consider how spending even just a

few minutes of your time chatting with some of these folks can lift their spirits - and yours!
