Up the stairs and past bears resting on chairs

in front of a red French door, I am in my

1000 square feet studio. One of my favorite

parts of the studio is the floor. I painted it to define

the different areas—checks, polka dots, diamonds,

flowers and cherries. Visitors usually say “Can I come

live with you?” or “Can I just hang out here

for awhile?”

The first area contains a 12 foot APQS

quilting machine in front of a window with a great

view of the world. Next, there is a work table—

usually covered with fabric above and below-- and

2 large planning walls. Planning walls are important

as I like to have 2 or 3 quilts going at all times.

My Pfaff and Bernina sewing machines sit in the cor-

ner with more great views.

My latest fabric line is Look and Learn. It

was inspired by First Grade reader vocabulary cards

and old-fashioned kids’ toys. All the fabrics are in

clear, honest primary colors right out of the coloring

box! In order to get these primary colors, I use pens

because paints are too blended. When working on a

new group, I first explore several options for a time.

It is very difficult for me to narrow the line, so I have

to focus on that for several days. There are no

favorites in this line for me—I love them all!

I love having fabric possibilities at hand because

I have always been able to cut a shape better than

I can draw it! The ideas begin to flow as the fabrics

come together.

My favorite quilt is always the next one.

I just love the rush. My energy flows like an

adrenaline boost when I see it all coming together.

The entire process is excitement for me.
