At Last! A NEW FORM OF HEATING FROM GERMANY

Simple to install, Powerful, and no more servicing - EVER!

In Germany and Austria it can get as low as -20, even -30ºC and a single snowfall can be as much as 3ft

or more overnight. To deal with this severe cold they need powerful heating able to cope with sub zero

temperatures and sudden climate change. They need excellent control and above all - low running costs

without the need for constant servicing and replacement parts.

The solution, incredibly... is electric! This incredible heating

could be the answer to help beat ever increasing energy

costs and amazingly, it is not gas or oil, or solid fuel - but

clean electric! All you need is standard supply and NO

special tariff like economy 7.

All over Europe more people are choosing to heat their

homes and offices with this very special form of electric

heating in preference to oil gas or E7. In our area, more and more of our customers are making that same

decision and when you see this incredible heating for yourself you could be next! The heating looks just

like conventional radiators, but STOP! it is very different! Put simply, that clunky central heating boiler

needing constant servicing and replacement parts isn’t the only choice anymore!

Now you can heat your homes, offices, extensions or conservatories with these incredible heaters

providing individual control over every room without the need for a central control or wasted boiler

space. This incredible German heating simply plugs in! Job Done! You can do just one room or the

whole house! This heating, whilst quite NEW in the UK has been mainstream for a very long time in

Germany and Austria. Sunflow Ltd. offer a complete solution which can include disposing of your old central heating system,

even oil tanks! Discover for yourself this incredible German heating.

Editor:

I’m Dennis and as an agent for the Works I have been distributing the Longlevens local to your homes for many years, so it is likely that you may have seen me on my rounds.

I am now looking to submit some interesting articles, which I hope, will complement our already popular magazine.

For future issues I will be looking for local topics, your opinions (good or bad!), stories & people of interest so any suggestions would be most welcomed - please email [email protected].

As a community magazine we are always trying to extend our links with local businesses and believe that our low budget advertising offers could be the answer to promoting a company’s business during the current “credit crunch” climate.

Longlevens Library Update

As the Library staff, adapt to the recent organisational

changes, the library remains an important hub within our

community. Christine Fields, the overseer of the library is keen

to encourage more people to use this excellent facility.

A new Radio Frequency ID Self – service machine has been

installed and initial feedback indicates that customers are

very happy using the system, supported by library staff who

always ready to offer help where needed.

Whilst installing the equipment several changes were made to

the layout of the library. This included a re- organisation of the

shelving which has made access to books far more customer

friendly, whilst providing a more spacious area for activities

and reading. Finally the Serving Counter has been modified

and lowered to produce a more accessible and child friendly

option for their younger customers.

The involvement of the Community is obviously important to the library which offers a variety of

classes to all age groups. An Art Group has been established which is aimed at Beginners /

Improvers and gives anyone with a leaning towards art to try to develop their skills. Certainly

the gallery wall of paintings indicates that there are some talented artists in Longlevens.

The Stitch club meets fortnightly. Sewing and needlecraft circles are on-going in a relaxed

environment and new members are always welcome.

Christine reminds me that there are computer classes available which are organised by

Gloscat which provides short course that are free to people from within the Community. An

added bonus is the availability of a volunteer computer tutor who is designated to the library.

There are Improvers courses also planned and places are available. Anyone interested should

contact the library directly.

A current initiative involves establishing a link between the Longlevens Junior School and the

Milestones school where Year 6 pupils from the junior school are partnered with a child from the

Milestones school to form a “Reading Buddy” partnership system. The library acts as the

meeting point for this activity. We will learn and report more about this commendable scheme

as it develops.

It is pleasing to see that the library is in a very stable position and operating effectively. We,

therefore as a Community should give our full support to this valuable resource. So why not pop

into the library and check it out – you may be surprised at what is available to you – more often

than not at no cost at all!

Longlevens Youth Update

As we go to press the U16’s Youth Football team are currently second in the Cheltenham Youth league after leading the table since December.

Following a sterling team performance to beat title rivals Badsey Youth away the lads were then beaten by the current League Champions Forest Green Rovers (FGR) by a score of 0-2 in a very close fought game at Longford lane. This result meant that the” Levens” lads would have to win their last three games to stand a chance of winning the league. However, with games against their main rivals FGR and Gotherington Youth to play it could well be the last game of the season before the championship is actually decided!

The squad has played some really attractive football and has fully deserved its place at the top of the league. Let’s wish the lads every success as they take on this final challenge.

Also a big thank you must go to Garry Turner, Owner of the Quedgeley based Company Abbey Design Associates, for generously providing the Youth team with sponsorship in the form of Training Tops and Water Proof Jackets.

Our Talented Community: Local Artist, Andy Lloyd

You can imagine my surprise when travelling along Sandford lane I was confronted by a Railway Steam Engine

travelling towards me. Further investigation revealed that the Steam Engine was in fact a scaled down version

painted on to a Garage door!

This unique mural was commissioned by Alistair and Liz Goldie who

asked local artist Andy Lloyd to complete the painting. Andy’s only

guide to what was required was a picture of a Steam train depicted on

a tea towel. The photo graph shows the successfully completed Mural

which is a tremendous piece of work.

Whilst tracking the origin of the painting I was introduced to Andy

Lloyd, an artist who specialises in Murals and Figurative or Portrait

paintings. Andy’s work has been acknowledged both nationally and

internationally with several appearances on TV and Radio to his credit

and later this year his artwork will feature in an Arts magazine to be

published in Washington DC.

Andy, who lives in Longford lane, is a semi- professional artist and part- time nurse. He has over

20 years’ experience and his works include several murals which are currently adorning the walls

of both the Gloucester Royal Hospital and the Longlevens Junior School. Andy’s has recently re

directed his creative talent into writing science fictions novels and although it is a relatively new

venture, he has already had three novels published.

As an honorary member of the Cotswold Art Club, Andy has demonstrated his artistic prowess on

several occasions at the Nature in Art Centre, Twigworth, for the GSA (Gloucester Society of

Artists) The GSA could be described as an Artist’s co-operative where local artists combine their

works into exhibitions and then compete to attract potential buyers to their paintings.

Andy also helps to organise and promote the popular Art in the Park exhibition, which takes place annually, during

June and July at the Imperial Gardens in Cheltenham. This year Andy will be one of 15 artists exhibiting their work

at the exhibition.

To see more examples of Andy’s work, why not visit the web site at www.cheltenham-art.com

As you will know we are always looking to promote the talents of people from within our community, so if you

know of anyone who falls into this category please let me know and I will contact them for a chat.

DAVE’S TOP TIPS Power tools

No self-respecting DIY enthusiast can be without power tools. These tools are now often so cheap it seems silly not to have them seeing as they can considerably improve the ease and speed of any job. Special consideration should be given to which type and make of tool to buy- should you pick one up costing a few pounds or one costing a few hundred pounds? Only you can decide! As an example if you are re-pointing the back of a house, you are going to need a 4.5-inch angle grinder to cut out the old mortar. You could pay between £10.00 for a cheap corded one and up to £250.00 for a good quality cordless one. The cordless one would be great but comes at a premium price, at least you don't need to worry about cutting through the cord! The cheap corded one will hopefully do the job and at that price can be thrown away afterwards or you may be lucky enough to get many years service from it! Cheap cordless tools tend to be let down by the batteries, which often discharge very quickly. For this reason corded power tools are a better alternative as you can always use them without having to wait for the battery to be charged! Regards,

Dave Stevens.
