CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

London’s tall buildings pipeline continues to increase year on year. Significant change is coming to some parts of the city, whether it be in places that did not have a tall building before or places which already have a number of tall developments in the pipeline. What is the impact on local neighbourhoods and how does the planning system cope with the chal-lenges that tall buildings bring? How do we ensure new tall buildings are of the highest quality of design and do not harm London’s rich historic heritage?

New London Architecture and the research team will discuss the findings of the latest NLA London Tall Buildings Survey 2019, providing the annual snapshot of new tall developments in London.

With the majority of tall buildings in the pipeline being residential, what role do tall buildings play in accommodating an increasing population? What do they deliver in terms of affordable housing? Are they the best way to deliver density? Are they more expensive to build and maintain? In this NLA conference we bring together built environment experts to discuss the future of London’s skyline.

SUPPORT THE PROGRAMMELondon is a relatively low-density city if compared with other European capitals such as Paris and Madrid. Yet, the increasing pressure to accommodate a growing population, expected to reach over 11 million people by 2050, and the commitment to contain the sprawl within the Green Belt, prompts the need to re-think how to make better use of the scarce amount of land available – ‘if we can’t build out, we need to build up’.

The pioneering role of NLA research on tall buildings delivers up-to-date figures and analysis and a year-round programme inviting industry experts and the public to discuss one of the capital’s most debated topic.

There are opportunities to become either a Champion or Supporter of this programme. To find out more about how you could get involved in the events and output across our platforms please get in touch with the Membership Team on 0207 636 4044.
