An accessible London boat cruise on the Thames River is one of the most relaxing and unique ways to see the city. Sights include Shakespeare’s Globe, Tower Bridge, the HMS Belfast, and St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Wheelchair users can use ramps to get down to the boat dock where there is flat access onto the boat. London accessible boat cruises are possible within London or can easily be extended to visit the sights at Greenwich.

I gave the London Accessible Boat Cruise on the Thames River a 4 Star Sage Accessibility Rating because it has step-free access and an accessible bathroom. It did not get a higher accessibility rating because of the sloped ramp to get down to the dock (no flat access) and the semi-steep ramp at the boat doorway (no flat access, described below).

Accessibility Description

To begin your wheelchair accessible London boat cruise, you will come down the ramp shown on the left. You will then go down a second ramp (shown in the photo on the right).

The London Accessible Boat Cruise on the Thames River has flat access onto the boat with a VERY small gap (shown in the photo on the left). The biggest accessibility challenge that wheelchair users will encounter is the semi-steep up and down ramp to reach the interior of the boat (shown in the photo on the right).

The interior of the modern boats is smooth and spacious. The chairs are fixed to the ground, so wheelchair users will need to pull up to the end of the table.

From the lower level, you can easily see the sights such as the HMS Belfast (shown on the left) and the Tower Bridge (shown on the right).

The London accessible boat tour is equipped with a stair-lift for wheelchair users to reach the upper deck. Although you can see fine from the lower deck, the upper deck has a few extra benefits: you have good views in virtually every direction, you won’t have to worry about window glare present on the lower level, and you can enjoy the weather (if it’s good).

The modern boats have an accessible toilet shown in the photos below. The older boats do not have accessible toilets.

Sage Travel Tip: London accessible boat tours are great at sunset!
