DisruptiveInnovation
Embracing disruptive innovation
The legal sector is at a turning point. Global economic instability
and clients’ changing needs and behaviours are two of the
most predominant factors influencing the sector. This is closely
followed by competition from new market entrants brought about
by increased liberalisation. As the sector continues to expand its
footprint, globalisation is continuing to reshape the landscape. The
current market conditions are driving consolidation with domestic
and international mergers, putting continued pressure on fees and
margins. Firms need to diversify, globalise or develop innovative
business models for the delivery of new services and meet with
changing customer expectations and increased competition from
outside the legal sector. In response to this fast changing world
of legal service provision, Managing partners are increasingly
recognising the need to do things differently; smarter, faster and
more efficiently. It requires that firms innovate, re-architect their
business model canvas and re-evaluate their value proposition,
this is to the heart of disruptive innovation. Knowledge of the law
in itself is no longer enough it is the creative application of legal
services delivered in flexible, scalable and repeatable ways that will
ensure a firms profitability and ultimately its longevity.
Technology must be a fundamental driver of innovation and efficiencies
To maintain competitive advantage, deliver new sources of
revenue, and ultimately growth, there is increased reliance on IT
tools and support systems that enable the organisation to drive
internal efficiencies and cost savings. IT systems need to have the
agility and scalability to support the introduction of new regulatory
changes, incorporate new business models and support global
collaboration, while providing the safeguards that the industry
needs in order to assure data privacy and compliance.
IT and business processes are integral to the operational and
financial performance of the firm. The underpinning systems
need to support a large range of business demands; provide
collaboration between employees and clients regardless of
location; enable the automation of manual tasks; support secure
document sharing between team members; quick and efficient
access to files and cases; effectively manage information
governance and lifecycle; and enable the integration of new cloud
service models.
Focus on optimising business outcomes
Logicalis recognises that the services we deliver must be aligned
to the challenges and priorities of the legal sector. Logicalis is
working closely with firms to deliver the innovative solutions and
services required to support the transforming legal market, and
accelerate the transition to the envisioned ‘future law firm’. As an
end-to-end service provider, Logicalis design and deliver solutions
to enable you to drive that change, re-engineer business processes
to support new service models and deliver new products and
services quickly and efficiently. We work with our clients to provide
the flexibility, service levels and performance the business needs,
when it needs them.
We offer:• Flexible deployment models that scale as you grow
• Cost leadership approach, predictable procurement models
• UK-based and international Data Centres and Managed Service Centres
• Skills and expertise to consult, design, deploy and manage
• Global delivery capabilities across all major geographies
A leading international law firm said the benefit to this analytical insight
was ‘a more granular analysis’ of the performance of each business unit
enabling identification of opportunities for progressive improvement and
better management of resources. “A quick win was a faster collection of
debts, creating a 20 percent improvement in working capital.”
Business Analytics & Information Management Solutions
and Services
Logicalis will help you harness the power of your data with our solutions
for e-discovery, case and file management, secure content repositories,
information lifecycle and governance, and business analytics. Logicalis
provides simple, customised dashboard views enabling firm-wide
reporting from fee earner productivity, case profitability to client
acquisition and retention success rates.
Is your firm trying to do more with less?Firms are ultimately constrained by the availability and productivity of
their fee earners. Maximising billable hours is key to driving up profits
per equity partner (PEP), a much debated but still widely used measure
of a firm’s performance. Regardless of your position on the PEP debate,
you will agree that driving firm-wide efficiencies in working practices is a
critical component of the productivity challenge. Against this back drop,
a paradigm shift in the workspace has occurred over the past 5 years.
Now more than ever firms need to be increasingly mobile, social and
collaborative not only to engage with their clients but also in providing
the best tools across the firm to achieve real-time access to experts,
faster decision making, lower operating costs and support in changing
business models. Logicalis Workspace Transformation Solutions and
Services will support your firm with this transition.
DWF chose a Logicalis Workspace Transformation solution to
ensure the firm maintained close relationships with its clients, whilst
significantly reducing travel expenses and saving valuable time that
might otherwise be charged to the client.
“We want to bring our people together without the expense and untimely nature of excessive travel. At the same time, we have an overarching responsibility to reduce our carbon emissions wherever possible….” Richard Hodkinson, CTO, DWF

will support your firm with this transition.
Can your law firm turn on a sixpence?Increasing competition, both locally and globally, is driving UK firms to
globalise, diversify or both in a concerted effort to protect from takeover
and seek out new markets with higher potential margins. As per the
works of Heraclitus ‘Change is the only constant’ and law firms need to
become increasingly agile to operate successfully in this fast, fluctuating
and innately flirtatious landscape where shifting dynamics of partnership
structures lead rapidly to M&A activity. A fundamental component to
this agility is IT and its adaptability to support the changing business
objectives of the firm. Whether it is the ability to integrate data assets,
processes and systems faster following merger and acquisition
activity or dynamically support the transition to online legal service
provision to support a change in business models, IT systems must be
industrialised, flexible and scalable whilst delivering end-to-end SLA
based quality assurance.
A recent survey of the Legal IT Professionals readership found
81% of respondents expect the cloud will overtake “on-premise
computing in the legal services industry” sometime within the next
10 years.

Logicalis Solutions and Services for Legal
Is your firm data rich but insight poor?Law firms gather vast and ever increasing quantities of data
every day. Data in the form of emails, client and financial
information, and case and matter documentation are all
stored in CRM, practice management, billing and numerous
other disparate systems. Once captured however the full
value of the accumulated data is seldom ever extracted. The
result is most firms are missing out on strategically important
intelligence; the key insights, trends and analysis that if
harnessed effectively will provide increased management
insight, enable better informed decision making and ultimately
drive profitability.
We specialise in a range of solutions and services for the Legal Sector to build, manage and deploy your local and international IT projects, delivered through a wide range of consumption models.
