LA VOCE
Dear Brothers and Sisters: I can’t believe that we have started a new decade, the year 2020. Where does the time go?
We must take each day and enjoy every moment. At our last Membership Meeting we initiated two new members: Sr. Angie Basile and Br. Michael Palmieri. Welcome to the Lodge. We hope you come to the meetings, so we can get to know you and you will get to know us. We are busy making plans for our 100th Anniversary Dinner Dance. I hope you will all try to come to the Dinner on Sunday, May 3rd, 2020, 12:30-5:30 PM at Verdi’s of Westbury. We hope that our Past Presidents will be in attendance, as we would like to recognize them. We presented our slate of officers for 2020-2021 and they were elected. We will be installing them at our March Membership Meeting. I will be going out of office and Br. Tony Sclafani will be our new President. I hope you will be able to attend to welcome the whole slate. Thank you to Sr. Portia Ryder, Chairperson of the Nominating Committee and members of the committee: Brs. Mike Carrera, Tony Ceriello, Angelo Grande and Jim McAleer. This is always a special night as our members bring in their favorite covered dish for us to enjoy. Please let Sr. Grace Stanco know what you are bringing. Her phone number is 516-676-2165. If you have not paid your dues, please send them in as soon as possible. If you pay your dues, you are a member in good standing. They were due December 31st. Don’t forget St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 22nd (see flyer). After the parade, we will come back to the Lodge for our St. Joseph’s Day Celebration. Each year we have a meatless meal with covered dishes donated by our members. Whatever money that is collected that day is donated to St. Rocco’s for the Outreach Program. The Italian Heritage and Culture Committee of NY, Inc. selected as its theme, Matera-2019: European Capital of Culture … Past - Present – Future. In La Voce you will see a letter from the Mayor of Matera, Avv. Raffaello De Ruggieri. I thought you would be interested in reading about the history of this city. Matera is one on the oldest cities in the world. Happy Valentine’s Day Sempre Avanti! Fraternally. Kathryn Grande, President

Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Saint Patrick's Day is observed on March 17th, the supposed date of
his death. It is celebrated inside and outside Ireland as a religious
and cultural holiday. In the dioceses of Ireland, it is both a solemnity
and a holy day of obligation. It is also a celebration of Ireland itself.
We will be marching in the parade on Sunday, March 22nd at 1 PM. The line-up will be at the Middle School in Glen Cove on Forest Avenue. We will meet at the Lodge at 11:30 AM or meet us on Forest Avenue. After the parade we will return to the Lodge for our St. Joseph’s Day Celebration.
