LOGAN COUNTY LIVES UNITED!
ANNUAL REPORT 2018
2018 - YEAR IN REVIEW ONE IN A MILLION
Logan County achieved a philanthropic milestone, becoming
the smallest community in the state to raise $1 million for its
local United Way! With the help of our corporate partners,
Million Dollar Roundtable volunteers, and nearly 4,000
individual donors, $1,038,555 was during our 2018 fall campaign, marking a 9.1 percent increase over last year. It's
the fifth straight year you’ve helped us surpass our
fundraising goal.
STRATEGIC PLAN ADOPTED TO GUIDE NEXT FIVE YEARS
We unveiled a new Strategic Plan in January to focus future
funding on three over-arching community needs while
increasing the capacity of the organization. Substance
Abuse, Financial Stability, and Workforce Readiness will
receive increased attention from United Way in coming years, with bold goals established to make measurable impact on
each issue. Internally, United Way will focus on establishing
an Endowment Fund, to provide more outreach to outlying
areas of Logan County, and to increase volunteer
opportunities for individuals and groups.
LIVE UNITED @ WORK LAUNCHES
We became the second United Way in Ohio to offer on-site
Resource Coordination for employees of participating
businesses with the launch of
our LIVE UNITED @ WORK Financial Wellness program.
Ashley Spence was hired in
December to coordinate the
program in which she meets
one-on-one with associates
about non-work related issues.
A small, payday loan
alternative with Quest Federal Credit Union to help with short-
term financial emergencies is an important feature of the
program.
COST OF POVERTY EXPERIENCE
We hosted a pair of poverty simulations with Think Tank,
Inc.’s Cost of Poverty
Experience. More than
100 community leaders
and two dozen high
school upperclassmen
participated to learn
more about the impact
that poverty has on our community. The
simulations sparked
discussion and further involvement from individuals now
working on solutions to help families increase financial
stability.
STUFF THE BUS
Mountains of school supplies (more than 8,400 in fact) were
donated to our Stuff the Bus collection throughout Logan
County. The 1,808 glue sticks, 1,660 notebooks
1,255 folders, 447 boxes
of crayons, and
thousands of additional
supplies were sorted at
NEX Transport by
volunteers and delivered
to all local schools.
NEW PROGRAMS, ORGANIZATIONS RECEIVE SUPPORT Bellefontaine Police Department, the Logan County Coalition
on Opiate Relief Efforts (CORE) and the Logan County
Sheriff’s Office became United Way Funded Agencies. 42
programs of 28 Funded Agencies receive 2018 allocations.
18 additional organizations received support throughout the
year via our Community Impact Fund and Youth Allocations
grant fund.
19,255 books were mailed to Logan County preschoolers via our Dolly
Parton Imagination Library. About 1,700 children under age 5 are enrolled
in the free early childhood literacy program.
