Locker Use: Tips and Tricks

The general locker structure at Semiahmoo Secondary includes three sections: two small cubicles and one large rectangular space. Students are able to store any belongings not needed for classes inside the locker, which are then kept safe by the lock.

In order to keep the locker neat and tidy, a general rule of thumb—that many students seem to ignore, sadly—is to have only a maximum of two students sharing one locker.

Each cubicle should only be used by one student.

Of the two who share the locker, the taller student should use the higher cubicle, while the shorter student should use the lower one.

By having both students responsible for their own cubicle, it is much easier to keep each cubicle organized and clean, lowering the tendency to misplace any items.

Items that belong in the cubicles include:

• Binders• Textbooks• General supplies• Food items and water• And any other small objects

Small yet incredibly useful, three hooks can be found beneath the cubicles. Any pieces of clothing, as well as light bags and packs, should be hanged here to avoid clutter.

The large rectangular space should be used for much larger objects, such as backpacks and large bags. Even though the space here is narrow, refrain from stacking any objects if possible. Stacking encourages even more stacking, which eventually leads to a complex mess of random items inhabiting the lower portion of your locker.

Finally, in addition to the storage spaces, the locker door may also come in handy as well. Items that can make use of it include:

• A mirror that may save you a trip to the washroom

• A magnetic basket to place small objects such as writing utensils

• Sticky notes to remind you of any important details, or to deliver messages to your locker partner
