To all my FSDA friends:
I would love to see a newsletter filled with news about how you have been occupying your time dur-ing this period of social distancing. Not all of us share on Facebook, or other social media, but perhaps you would be willing to share a photo or two with your painting friends. Have you been painting a masterpiece, cooking a special dish, cleaning out a closet, planting a garden, pressure washing the house? Please send an email to Kathy Edwards to let us know and share a photo if you can. Depending on the response, we will let Kathy decide how we can share the information. Here is a short list of some of my activities:
I spent some time finishing up my projects from the Cheri Rol seminar. I believe I
had these for show and tell at the last meeting but they still needed some work. It is always a great feeling to call a project “done”, now they just need a few coats of varnish, and to find some wall space to hang them!
At this time the board is waiting until early May to make a decision about the May meeting.
May Project:
Since the stay-home order I have been primarily occupied with my sewing machine. I have made more than 60 masks and given most of them away to family, friends and service providers.
I made another “boxy tote” that will be a Christmas gift. (I think these are the perfect size totes and although this dog fabric was a splurge I found it ir-resistible).
I have been working on a mystery quilt, the instructions for each row are re-leased each Monday so you do not know what the entire project will look like other that your own color selection. So far, I have completed 3 weeks and waiting for instructions for week 4. If I actually have the fortitude to complete this to king size, it will be my new bedspread once this coronavirus thing is over. So far it is only 42 inches square. I have a long way to go, and being a fairly novice quilter, this is a real stretch for me.
I also purchased a Roomba (never had anything like this before) and I spend time daily getting it un-stuck from all the clutter in my home. I’m still run-ning it daily because I am amazed at how much dust it is still picking up. Who knew I had that much dust! Today Roomba found my mess from mak-ing face masks and decided to eat a few yards of elastic. Good thing I have plenty!
For the past couple of weeks I have been going for a (socially distant) walk every morning with a neighbor, which has been very helpful for my sanity.
I have dragged out some canvases and am ready to start on some projects planned for Christmas gifts, but nothing has paint on it yet, maybe tomorrow?
I hope this helps or inspires some of you. I look forward to seeing everyone at a meeting soon. In the meantime, take care of yourself, stay safe and stay healthy so we can all be together again!
Sincerely,
Sandra Hoffman.
PS: At this time the board is waiting until early May to make a decision about the May meeting.

PAINTED TREASURES : Lynn Merritt & Vi San Pedro
Even though it seems far off right now, it's not too early to be thinking of Painted Treas-ures 2021. I would like anyone interested in working with us on ideas and suggestions to give us your name and contact information at the next Chapter meeting. Since we're all laying low for a while, now would be a good time to check your "stash" you've been hoarding for things you can turn into "painted treasures."
You can also contact us at [email protected] (Lynn Merritt) or [email protected] (Vi San Pedro)
These are indeed unusual times. I don’t know when we will be able to meet in person for a “regular” meeting because of stay at home orders but be assured Ways and Means will have lots of raffle goodies when we do. Some great stuff has been donated and I can’t wait to share. Meanwhile, I miss you all and pray you are staying home, staying healthy and painting as much as possible. Painting is a great therapy and stress reducer and who doesn’t experience some stress with the threat of this virus. This is a perfect time to finish a UFO or two or paint some-thing in a medium you have never tried before. After all, no one has to see it if it doesn’t turn out to your satisfaction. And if it turns out great, bring it to show and tell next time we meet. While you have paint on your palette, paint a smooth rock for a child undergoing radiation treatments at Advent Hospital. We have provided painted rocks for the technicians to give them in the past but I am sure their “stash” is quite depleted. There are tons of ideas on my Pinterest, Rocks, Painted Rocks. We can collect the rocks when we meet again. Till then, stay well. Happy painting, Jean
