ANOTHER SERIOUS CRASH ON DIAMOND JUBILEE WAYHAS LOCALS CALLING FOR CAMERAS TO BE INSTALLEDIN NORTH LAKESOn Friday 14th February, 2020 at approx imate ly 1 .45pm, a serious car accident occurred at the intersection of Diamond Jubilee Way and Discover Drive, North Lakes.

The car that was hit, a Honda CR-V, was travelling through the green arrow (the Honda was the THIRD car through the green arrow), when a speeding Audi ran through the red light in the opposite direction, connected with the Honda and flipped the Honda onto the other side of the road and landed on its roof.

There was a lady driving the Honda, with no passengers, and she came out of the accident with minimal physical injuries. However, she may be mentally traumatised for some time to come.

There were reports that the Audi was seen driving erratically just moments before the accident occurred. Witnesses say it was speeding, swerving, and the

driver was distracted at the lights before this intersection, looking at his mobile phone and not going when the light was green.

Social media pages went into a frenzy when hearing of the accident. With many locals hav ing wi tnessed ser ious a c c i d e n t s w i t h i n t h e 4 intersect ions on Diamond Jubilee Way, from the Anzac Avenue intersection down to and including the intersection at Endeavour Boulevard in the past and now are calling for red light and speed cameras to be installed at these intersections.

We are pleased to know that the lady in the Honda is ok and we w i s h h e r a l l t h e b e s t i n recovering mentally from this accident.

Will anything get done? Will someone have to lose their life before anything is done? We are on the case and waiting for replies, so we will keep you posted.

opposed to negative ones.I believe that this ”mind to chemistry” effect can be easily proven. For instance, suppose two people find themselves on canoe racing down the rapids on a river one person is having a ball and really enjoying themselves. The first person's brain interprets this as fun and as an experience of happiness and so they may release feel good chemicals and hormones like endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocins increasing their state of wellbeing. But if the other person believes that the ride could kill them, they may be fearful and the brain may release stress hormones such as cortisol and other nasties causing a stress response and anxiety. So, the theory is that you are your thoughts. Here's another example: suppose there were two people waiting for a bus in the sweltering heat and someone came up and threw cold water over both of them. One person may believe that this is a refreshing and kind act and the other may believe it to be an assault. The person who believes it's an assault pretty soon gets tense, angry and the blood pressure rises and the fight or flight hormones start pumping and pretty soon the body has whipped itself up into a frenzy of toxic responses. But on the flip side, the person who believes that the act was a kind act, interprets the water as a refreshing God send and they experience a relaxation response and feel calmer. Same event but with two different minds making a decision about the event that changes their internal chemistry. Think about the soldiers who were given placebos (sugar pills) to manage pain because they ran out of medication and the soldier's pain reduced. Some people think that this was hypnotism, but I don't. I believe their brains were told that the medication would kick in to kill the pain in around 30 minutes and this belief allowed the body to take care of the problem without negative loops from the brain interfering with the natural pain killing chemistry and healing response of the body.

We can't talk about placebo effects without also exploring the nocebo effect. With placebo a person fully expects a happy outcome and most of the time a happy outcome is what they get. In the case of no-cebo a person will believe that there is going to be a bad outcome and the body, and life circumstances comply with that belief and facilitate a bad outcome. Think of the Witch Doctors who pointed a stick at someone they wanted to curse, and the person got sick. They didn't get sick because a stick was pointed at them, they got sick because they believed they were going to get sick. Now I believe all this is absolutely true but we are so conditioned to make negative interpretations of events and to rely on medication that our minds get in the way of this natural response. I feel all we can do is try to be more positive in our everyday lives by not a lways jumping to the negat ive interpretation of every event or person we encounter and practice an internal dialogue that tells our body that we trust it to do what it needs to do. I want to be absolutely clear here in that I believe that there are times when we all must take medication and I'm the first one to admit that if I don't take my migraine medication I would lose days at a time, but we should also not just take anything that is handed out without investigation as to why we are put on a medication, what it is meant to do and what the side effects might be. So my take on all this is that the body will often do what it needs to do if we just get our minds out of the way.

Hi Leonie,

You gave a talk about the power of positive thinking and I was wondering what you think of the mind body connection in regard to our health. My mum and I are always arguing about this and I think that our thoughts are important to our health and happiness. We both struggle to be happy and I feel that a lot of mum's health issues are caught up with her negative thinking. Now I know that this is probably not a therapy question but we both are avid readers of your column and we are both keen to know your thoughts on this.

Kaitlyn and Susan/North Lakes

Hi Girls, you have touched on something I have been studying for years though text, CD, books and pod casts. Many great minds of today talk on this issue but I feel Deepak Chopra whose book “Quantum Healing” really speaks to this issue in an easy to understand way. My interpretation of Deepak's view is that every thought, decision, and action can make an impact on how our body reacts and what natural pain killers and hormones the body releases and this, as a matter of course affects our general state of well being and mental health.

As I understand it, the theory holds that unwittingly, we damage the body's natural state of health with negative input from our mind and our belief system. The fact that this input comes from the brain which may be socially conditioned to believe this or that means t ha t t hough ts , moods , and expectations, however intangible, get translated into chemical messages in the very same way as molecules of medication get translated and integrated into the body. The theory is that you and I bear the responsibility of sending positive messages to our cells as

‘till next week. Leonie

CHILD FREINDLY COMMUNITY FORUM WITH NATURE PLAY QLD

Rebecca and Carla - Shine Lawyers North Lakes

The children of Moreton Bay will have their say on what the future of urban city design will look like, in a Queensland first event.

The Child Friendly Cities Forum tour, hosted by Nature Play QLD, w i l l make i ts fi rs t s top a t Caboolture Hub, Hasking St between 11.30am and 4pm February 26.

“Moreton Bay is one of the fastest growing council regions in the country – we're expecting the population to increase by a further 240,00 residents by 2041,” Acting Mayor councillor Mike Charlton said.

“It is important we look out for the interests of our youngest citizens and this forum is just one thing we're doing. You only need to look as far as the new Mill university campus in Petrie, which opened this year.

“But a child's development starts much earlier than that and it's extraordinarily important we get that right moving into the future.”

Nature P lay QLD program manager Angela Wright said safe playable neighbourhoods were critical to improving a child's overall physical, psychological and social wellbeing.

“We are looking forward to joining the discussion at Moreton Bay Regional Council's Child Friendly Cities Forum around what we need to change to deliver child

Tips to make the most of a Jobs Fair

Bring a copy of your current résumé to hand to employers . F i r s t impressions are important, so make sure you come prepared, and show enthusiasm for and interest in the company during your face-to-face interactions.

Dress for successWhat you wear is important. Be aware that employers really do notice details like untidy clothes, and dressing appropriately shows an unde rs tand ing o f behav iou r expected in a workplace.

R e s e a r c h t h e c o m p a n i e s attending the Jobs FairOne of the most frequent complaints from employers is that candidates do not take the time to research their company before speaking to them. Learning a thing or two about the company will help you prepare for discussions with the employer and help you respond to them better.

Ask the right questionsExperts say you should never ask ‘What kind of positions are you hiring for?’ or ‘What is your organisation all about?’ These answers are quite easy for you to find out online.Instead, ask ‘What kind of person are you looking for?’ or ‘What skills or qual ificat ions do you see as important?’

Remember the Jobs Fair is a great networking opportunity Job Fairs provide access to a range o f e m p l o y e r s , e m p l o y m e n t providers, industry bodies and government agencies all in one place. You may discover new companies, which you haven’t contacted before. Chat with

representatives, leave a great first impression and collect as many business cards as you can. These contacts will be very handy when open positions are later advertised.

Be prepared to answer questions about yourself and be enthusiastic Employers love when job seekers come to a Jobs Fair with positive energy and enthusiasm. Be ready to answer “Tell me about yourself.’ Prepare a brief statement beforehand about yourself, your experience, accomplishments and skills, and why you would like to work for their company. This will help you feel more confident.

Apply online after you meet with any company representatives After you have attended the Jobs Fair and left résumés with several employers, it is important to remember to also apply online – more and more employers like to receive applications this way. Remember to refer to the conversation you had at the Jobs Fair with the employer in your cover letter.

Just because an employer took your résumé, it doesn’t mean that you have been shortlisted for an interview. The employer will let you know if they would like you to attend an interview.

Follow up by email Last but not least, don’t forget to send thank you emails to all the representatives you connected with at the Jobs Fair. This shows interest and ambition. Use the business cards you collected to make sure you don’t forget anyone.

Good Luck!

The North Lakes Women's Group is an organisation comprising of over 100 women who live in North Lakes, Mango Hill and surrounding suburbs. Most of our members are over fifty and are retired or working part time who enjoy the company of other women and who wish to participate in interesting activities and outings.

The Group meets every Tuesday morning. The first three Tuesdays our gatherings are held at the Corso Community Centre in North Lakes. On the fourth Tuesday we meet for a group lunch at a local restaurant, café, club or hotel. If there is a fifth Tuesday we have an outing. In the past we've done a tour of Parliament House, a boat cruise around Pumicestone Passage, a bus trip to Harbour Town, a bus trip to Maleny Dairy plus many more interesting outings.
