Modelling Dragons at Flying Start Students designed and created dragons made from coloured modelling clay this week. This activity followed a reading of the story ‘Hunting for Dragons’. Students displayed their imagination, creativity and fine motor skills whilst manipulating the clay with their fingers to produce round balls for the head and body and long parts for the tail. At the end of the morning each child was excited to take home their creations to share with their family.

Middle School Program Our Middle School Program has concluded for 2016 and the six sessions have been wonderful. The program has provided meaningful opportunities for a great deal of teaching and learning new skills to occur. The range of activities this year was fantastic and catered for the interests of all students. The students had an amazing time as did the tutors. The Middle School program would not have been successful without the assistance of our wonderful tutors: Mr Tate, Mr Long, Mr Lee, Mr Brennan and Mr McDonald, we truly appreciate them giving up their time to share their skills and knowledge and thank you to our great staff for doing the same. We are lucky to live in this community where we have wonderful role models for our students, they say it takes a village to raise a child and this program definitely sits well with that philosophy.

Jayda Hemara, Breanna Roberts and Clare Collins are busy

creating wonderful artworks during Middle School.

Jasmine Palmer was very pleased with her efforts

in paper craft with Miss Heffernan.

Joshua Ross worked very hard to create a wonderful

environment for his figurines in the activity Fairy and Troll gardens with Mrs Willis.

Sam McGregor, Joe Anderson, Travis Rowles and Sean

Ward increased their confidence in riding and maintaining their bikes.

Mrs Atfield enjoys a cup of billy tea while sharing stories with

the boys around the camp fire.

Author and screen writer, Christopher Lee, analyses an

animation with Jessie McCann.

Rock & Water Students in the infants are continuing to improve their strength and self-defence techniques during Rock and Water sessions with Miss Logan.

This week our focus was to give ‘flaming eyes’ to our partner to practise warding off. This allowed us to keep the rest of our body strong and focus on our opponents hand and body movements. After perfecting ‘flaming eyes’ we were able to block moves from our opponent at any angle, keeping our eyes focused, and our body continually facing theirs. Fantastic work infants students, each week I am impressed by your growing strength and self-belief!

Louise Robertson and Jay Knight prepare with ‘flaming

eyes’.

Sophie Ward cannot be moved with her

flaming eyes and strong stance.

Michael Foster is able to block as Charlie Butler moves towards him.

P&C News

Monster wood raffle number 2 The P&C will be holding another massive wood raffle during the upcoming local elections which will be held on Saturday 10th September. We have drawn up a roster to man the stall and this time we will be asking our infants families to donate one hour out of their day. Please check the roster for your allocated time and if you will not be available please organise a swap and advise the school office of the changes. We will also be sending home some raffle tickets to sell and these tickets and money will be due back to the school office by Friday 9th September. Fundraising Catalogue Drive Over the next two weeks, fundraising catalogues will be attached to your News & Views. There are 3 different companies we are participating with.

There are some fantastic products on offer and in past years we have had families tell us some products have sold out quite quickly and they have missed out. So for this reason we are suggesting two order dates.

The first order to be placed will be Friday 23 September (orders to be received at the school office by Wednesday 21 September)

The second order to be placed will be Friday 4 November (orders to be received at the school office by Wednesday 2 November)

All items will be received before the end of Term 4. Please ensure your name and current contact number is on the order forms so we can advise when orders are ready to collect.

Canteen Volunteers If you are able to volunteer one day per term please contact the school office.

I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
