Eliminate the outage time :• Safety check & risk assessment. = 1 min.• Phoning control required for opening links at pole nr. +/- = 2 min.• Wear the FAS (Fall arrest system). = 2 min.• Install the portable earth kit. = 5 min.• Ladder, safety equipment climbing of pole. = 5 min.• Proceed to change the spare surge arrestor = 20 min.• Close links and finalize the safety checks.

Total time saved to replace arrestor = +/- 30 min

3. Firewall – Operation

Function of the Live Line Surge Arrestor :

To prevent over-voltage caused by lightning transients or surges.

On breakdown of the MOV blocks, the system frequency disconnects the faulty surge arrestor via the the GLD (Ground lead disconnector).

The surge arrestor, falls into the open position and can be replaced live line.Replace with a new unit
