LLM Labour Law and Employment Relations

What?

1-year master focusing on labour law and related areas such as social

policy, labour market and human resource studies from an

international/European perspective.

Choose your own courses but:

• Minimum of 3 courses in labour law (18 ECTS)

• Minimum of 12 ECTS in social science courses

An internship of 3 ECTS as part of the curriculum.

Why?

• Progressive internationalization of markets and increasing labour

migration raises numerous transnational labour issues

• Learn to understand the dynamic relations between employees and

employers in a multinational context.

• Gain knowledge on different individual and collective legal systems

Why?

• Competitive edge in the job market for international labour law and

social policy, labour market and employment-related services.

• Work on a real-life case during an internship.

• Potential employers include international business, (non-)governmental

organisations, trade unions, employer organizations, labour market

intermediaries, law firms, consultancy and universities.

How?

• University bachelor in Law, HR Studies, Social Sciences (including

sociology, economics) and Liberal Arts & Sciences with major in Law.

• Pre-master in Law or HR; other possibilities may be considered on

individual request.

• ‘Introduction Law’ and ‘Introduction Social Sciences and Research

Methods’.

• The master starts in late August and late January

• Comparative EU Industrial Relations (4 or 6 ECTS) (Leuven)

• Compensation & Benefits (3 ECTS)

• EU Labour Law & Social Policy (6 ECTS)

• Social Policy and Social Risks (6 ECTS)

• Cultural Diversity Management (6 ECTS)

• International Labour Law (6 ECTS)

• Labour Market Institutions and Dynamics (6 ECTS)

• Organizational Change (6 ECTS)

• Transnational Labour Law (6 ECTS)

Labour Law courses

Comparative Labour Law:

Learn to identify and compare the functions and sources of labour law and social security law in different countries as well as the different underlying values through concrete national examples

European Labour Law & Social Policy:

Learn about the background and sources of labour law & social policy of the EU as well as the interaction between European and national labour law

International Labour Law:

Gain knowledge and understanding of the different sources and mechanisms in the field of international labour law and a number of the most important specific current issues on the global labour market.

Transnational Labour Law:

Gain knowledge and understanding of applicable labour law and social security law in situations of transnational labour mobility

Social Sciences courses (e.g.)

Compensation and Benefits:

Able to analyse effects of pay systems and provide foundations to design pay policies.

International HRM:

Analyse the role of HRM in an international context and the key HRM challenges facing international organisations.

Organizational Change:

Understand all stages of the organizational development (OD) cycle and the work methods, competencies and ethical standards.

Social Policy and Social Risks

Learn the origins and developmental trajectories of the welfare state, as well as about the range of present-day challenges confronting the welfare state.
