Monday 3/11 - NO SCHOOL – Teachers’ In-service Principal’s Desk……. Monday - Faculty In-Service Day: Monday our teachers gather together with Lutheran teachers from all around Orange County to learn more about two topics; “Developing the Heart of Service for Children” and “Classroom Physical Activities to Enhance Learning.” Both topics will be great blessings for our teachers and our students! See students back on Tuesday! DON’T FORGET TIME CHANGE: This weekend remember our clocks “spring forward” one hour on Saturday night. Science Olympic Team Competes: On Monday while our students have off from school we have 12 middle school students who are competing in the “Science Olympics Competition” taking place at Orange Lutheran High School. They have been spending a great deal of time preparing for this event. We pray God’s blessings on their efforts! We also thank Mrs. Stuewe, Mrs. Frydendall and Mrs. Schmid for their help and guidance in preparing our teams. Congratulations to BOB Students: This past Tuesday our four BOB teams met to determine which two teams would represent our school at the county competition on March 19 th . First of all “Congratulations” to all of the team members and coaches for their outstanding efforts!! The time, energy and preparation for this event were huge! To our coaches, a special “Thank You” for stepping up and helping out in this way. Being here every Tuesday morning did not go unnoticed. Now as we look ahead to March 19 th , we ask God’s blessings on our two teams who move on. They are “Go Read or Go Home” and “The Name of This Team is Secret.” Monday Mornings Moms Prayer Group: The teachers and I were again reminded last Monday about the wonderful blessing we have here at St. John’s. We have moms whose children go to our school, gathering at 8:20AM in Room 107 to hold up our students and teachers in prayer. What a joy knowing we are being held up in prayer!! Please consider joining this group and being a prayer warrior for our students and staff. Staffing Changes for 2013-14: Decisions have been made regarding staffing for next year. Mr. Senne, who has been serving as our Athletic Director for many years, will no longer be serving in this position once the current school year is finished. In his place, Mr. Stuewe will take over these responsibilities along with continuing to be our Middle School assistant principal. We are also now seeking an assistant principal to administrate over the Kindergarten through Grades 5 classes. This position also will assume various school wide responsibilities that Mr. Stuewe has been overseeing these past several years. If you know of anyone who might be a candidate for this “Kdg.-Gr. 5 Assistant Principal” position, or would like more information about this position, please contact the school office. Please keep this matter in your prayers as we seek God’s guidance. The SJLS NUTRITION Challenge: Check out the info on the SJLS Nutrition Challenge being sponsored by our Healthy Families ministry team. It is simple - take a picture of your healthiest food selection for the category each week and post it on this Facebook page. Referral Refund Incentive For Currently Enrolled School Families (Includes Preschool – Grade 8 families) If a new family is

accepted, enrolls, and attends during the 2013/2014 school year, and names you, one of our currently enrolled families, as the referral

family on their Application for Admission, you will receive a registration refund check equal to that of the new student. The newly

enrolled family must be new to St. John’s Lutheran School and Church. This is our way of saying thank you for being in partnership with us

and sharing your love of the Lord and St. John’s with others. For information regarding enrollment, please have them contact Jodi Holte,

FAMILY CAMPAIGN started Tuesday February 19th. Donate an item to SJLS Gala & Auction Feb. 19th – March 8th and

your child will receive a chocolate BLOOM BAR with a chance to receive a golden ticket to win an iTouch, Knott’s Passes, tickets to the

auction, Free Dress Passes, & much more! Minimum donation value is $25. An additional BLOOM BAR will be given for every $250

increment in donation value. Maximum of 10 bars. Donations can be made at the school office, booths on campus, or online at

CAMP INVENTION - Mark your children's summer calendars now! Camp Invention is returning to St. John's for the week of July

29th - August 2nd. Camp Invention is an all-day summer camp which takes place on St. John's campus and is led by St. John's teachers!!!

This year's program is called Geo-Quest, where your child can join us on an international expedition, navigating their way to treasure-

filled caches containing global challenges presented by youth around the world! Students entering 1st - 6th grade may register for this

exciting week of creative thinking, exploratory building, and fun in the sun. Register online before March 28th for only $215. Flyers are

SAVE THE DATE: Mark your calendars. The SJLS Gala & Auction will be held on Saturday May 11, 2013 at the

Doubletree Hotel in Orange. By planting seeds together for a bright and fruitful future we can all help our kids grow. See you there!

BOOKFAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Be a volunteer to help our kids discover the power of reading and earn PIP hours for your

time. Our annual Scholastic Bookfair "Story Laboratory, Reading Gives You Super Power!" is April 15 - 19, 2013 and we'd love to have

you on our team. Help is needed with fair set-up, pack-up, decorations, cashiering, or helping shoppers find the perfect book. If you'd like

St. John’s teams will compete in Battles 2, 5, 8, 11, 16 and 21. All are welcome to attend and cheer them on.

March 19

9:30 am-2:30 pm - Walker Hall Auditorium

St. John’s hosts 14 teams from 7 Orange County schools in our annual Battle of the Books. Volunteer officials are from the

Orange Public Library, the Literature Group of the Orange Park Acres Women’s League of Orange, Orange Lutheran High

School student leadership as well as participating school representatives. St. John’s teams will be competing throughout the

morning. Teams advancing to the final rounds will battle at 1:30 pm. Parents and interested classes who would like to watch

battles are welcome to enter/exit the auditorium anytime between battles and sit in the marked general seating area, rows J-T.

New this year, an inter-school team, B.o.B. United, comprised of students from five competing schools. Representing St. John’s on

B.o.B. United, Samuel Grack and Preston Hayden. This team will compete in Battles 4, 13 and 16 with all schools in the cheering

section!

ATHLETICS WEEK OF 3/41113

TRACK & FIELD - 5th - 8th Grades, Boys & Girls, Practices for track & field events begin Tuesday, March 12th. If you are

participating in track & field please meet on the turf field at 3:05 - 4:30 pm..

SPORTS PHYSICAL REMINDER- A reminder for parents with children who play spring sports, please have the sports physical

completed and returned to Mr. Senne to be eligible to practice and play. Forms are available in the school office. Thank you!

SCHOOL PAPER DRIVE: Newspaper News: our recycling bins are in the same place (adjacent to Bldg. B, Moreland Drive, by the

trash enclosure) and beckon your old newspapers, magazines, and even your mail inserts like the grocery store ads and the Pennysaver,

even cardboard, (flattened). Your recycling efforts keep funds flowing for the school sports program and provide the main ingredient to

manufacture new newsprint!

SPORTS VIDEO...Our Winter Sports teams are now over, so we are already preparing for our sports video for the "end of the year"

Sport Award Night .Please help us out by sharing your pictures or videos and give them to Mr. Senne. We want to make sure ALL of

our teams are represented in the video. Thank You!

CHURCH NOTES

LENTEN SERVICES: “OVERHEARD: CONVERSATIONS BY THE CROSS” A series of special midweek services for Lent.

Wednesdays at 12:10 and 7:00 p.m. [note: choirs in evening services only] Do you suppose it is possible that various people who

were involved in our Lord's Passion ever had the opportunity to talk with one another about it? Perhaps even right then, while the

events were happening? Can you imagine what they might have said? People like: MARCH 13 - The Two Thieves who were

crucified with Christ. Alleluia

If you could have listened to conversations like those, what might you have OVERHEARD? With piercing insight and dramatic reality,

these Lenten services invite us to eavesdrop on the concerns and conflicts of people whose lives were touched ... and changed ... by the

crucifixion of Jesus Christ--just as our lives have been.

LILIES FOR WORSHIP CENTERS: Donate Lilies to decorate our Worship Centers. $8.00 per lily. Forms in Sunday bulletins, the

Courtyard, Auditorium Literature Rack and in the Church Office. Please note if you will be taking your lily. Deadline - Monday,

03/18. A listing of donors will appear in the Easter worship bulletin. Pick up lilies after the 11:00 a.m. Easter. Remaining lilies will be taken

to members unable to attend services.

BAPTISM INFORMATION MEETING – Interested in finding out more about Baptism? What it means to be baptized at St. John’s or

why we have baptism? Please come to an informational meeting with an Elder. These meetings are held on the 2nd Sunday of every month.

2nd Annual Father/Daughter Dance: Open to ALL St. John's Family Dads & Daughters from preschool to 8th grade.Friday, March

15, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in Walker Hall. Crafts, refreshments, pictures and dancing "Under the Sea". Tickets are $20 for each father/daughter.

Additional daughters are only $5 each. You can purchase tickets at http://www.stjohnsorange.org/daddydance.htm, or drop off the

attached form to the school office. Donations of cookies/treats are greatly appreciated (1 dozen or more) and may be dropped off in the

Walker Hall kitchen next Friday. Please make sure they are marked as "Daddy Dance" on the packaging. Volunteers are needed to help

decorate and set up on Friday, as well as during the event. If you would like to volunteer or have any questions, please contact Amanda

conduct the concert. There is no charge. A freewill offering will be taken. Nursery care for children under age 5 is available. Bring a friend!
