I fulfill the role as "Sponsorship

Coordinator" here in Peru. I amsuremany of you are familiar withone of the var ious ch i ldsponsorship organizations andmaybe you even have a photo of acute little kiddo hanging on yourfridge.

ts been fun to see the "other side" of sponsorship

and how it actually affects the kids. I wasn't sure how theywould respond to receiving letters from perfect strangersyet they seem to love getting them, and I think a lot of themfeel like they "know" their sponsors, especially the ones thatwrite often. One girl has a sponsor who I know personally, which she thinks is SO COOL, and almost every time I seeer she asks me about her "Madrina" and if I've talked toer recently. On occasion one of the sponsors will come

down to visit their child, and that's a big deal. One time one

of the boys' sponsors came to visit, and when he pulled up5 or 6 of the kids went running into their house to let himknow that his "Padrino" was here, they were so excited forim.

While the children love getting letters, I wouldbe lyingf I said that writing back was their favorite activity. Therere a few who enjoy writing letters, and almost all of themnjoy decorating the letters or coloring pictures on them, butke any normal kid I usually have to make them sit down to

write a thank you note. I must admit I often feel

overwhelmed by this job - I am struggling to balance the

ThankfDiane (the awesome wife of our field director), has bhelping me a lot as well as a wonderful volunteer fromUK named Anneret, who I am convinced was sent hereGod to keep me sane.

My favorite part of sponsorship is knowing tthese kids have all these people in the U.S., Canada the UK praying for them. What an amazing gift. That's

best part about the whole thing. Sponsorship is a lotwork, there are a lot of details involved in getting the rletter to the right kid, and having the right kid respondthe right sponsor. Im reminded of its worth when translating a letter to Jos from his sponsor, andsponsor says that they have his photo up and pray fordaily. I love that there are people out there who kJos and pray for him by name; that correspond him regularly, and knowing the areas in which he neprayer are taking those needs to the Father on his beSometimes when working with the children I'm compleoverwhelmed by the obstacles they have to overcomlife. n January 1995, Flora Alvarado, along with

her little brother, entered the Lima Childrens Home

what is now the Juniper Tree) at the age of six.

Her father had died and her mother struggled with

drug abuse. Flora has grown up into a young

woman who loves the Lord and ended up doing a

year of Bible school at Word of Life in Argentina. While there she met Zach Frey, a student from PA,

who also loves the Lord and wants to do great

hings for Him. After Bible school they continued

heir relationship and on May 19th of this year they

    ied the knot in PA.

Flora shares that, I want to say thank you to

all my sponsors and caregivers (moms, aunts,

uncles, dads)for being there for me. Your prayers, financial help, letters, and some of you, your time

We have much for which to rejoice in

witnessing how God has been providing

for our needs, most notably for the

construction of the modu le for our "Moms

Helping Moms" program, where they will

now enjoy the comfort of having a

    specific environment designated for their

    discipleship workshops, jewelry making

    and crafts.

Please join with us in praying for ourne w project, the opening of our

    kindergarten this coming school year

March). This is a project that God placed

n our hearts a while ago, w ith the need to

provide quality education for our children,

and we are confident that now is the time

to progress with its initiation and

    development.

As is custom in our schools, mid-way through

the school year, the students have two weeks of

vacation. During this time we like to provide thechildren with healthy activities and recreation.

This year we planned a short get-away to the

coast. We divided the children into two groups,

the girls taking their trip the first week and the

boys the second. They were hosted by a church

    who had put together a fun program for them;

consisting of day trips, crafts, sports, movies,

    and devotionals.

The majority of the teenagers had adifferent

experience. They traveled to the city of Arequipa,

in the south of Peru, to participate in a four-day

youth convention. This was a great opportu

to meet and spend time with other teens. T

had a wonderful time, learning much and growin their faith.

Please dont forget that a great way tothese children is to pray for them and for th

who work in this place. I deeply appreciate y

support, and pray that God will cont

supplying for your needs according to

glorious riches; I am confident that He will k

    blessing your life.

Moms Helping Moms Testimonies...I am grateful to God that during

time I have come to know several

mothers with children, each withproblems and how we differ in

thinking. It has helped me realize who

and how I need to change to be the

Christ wants me to be. In my time he

    experienced the different areas, such

the kitchen, with the kids and cle

Its hard to put into words what this

has meant to me but I really like that

moms can come and learn and feel w

    feel about God.K

I used to be very shy and had no

friends, my 3 kids were my whole world.

When I first came here I learned a lot. Ihave learned not to judge people, rather, to

get to know them. But what excites me

most is to know God and who He is. I

hope that this program will forever exist

and help other moms to come to know

God, to help them know that His life

changes us and teaches us to be better

women, better mothers and better wives.

I did not attend church before, I only

sent my children. Since entering the

program my life has changed dramatically. What I like the best is that I now know the

Word of God and its truth within us. I have

also met other moms, each of us different,

and it has been nice to share this time

with them. This place has become like a

second home to me and I am so happy.

Now my partner has asked me to marry

him so we are planning a wedding in

    December.

to come to Peru and take your time to get to

know me is something that will mark my life

forever. God put great people in my life at the right

time. I've learned from you things that probably I

wouldn't have with just a mom or dad. What Godhas done in my life I can't stop talking about. He

has been so good to me. We are very pleased for

them both and look forward to how God will use

    them in the future.

We are extremely happy to report that, after3 months of rest and recuperation, Santiago*has made a full recovery from the accident thatfractured his foot in four places. Thank you toall who have remembered Santiago in yourprayers during this difficult time for him. We

rejoice as we have seen him grow in his faithand love for our Lord Jesus Christ through theuncertainty of truly having full use of his limb -even more so as we are now able to watch histalents on the football field once again.

He, along with approximately 300 kids

from the surrounding vil lages, wil l beparticipating in Calichines (Little League) thisyear. Teams of nine come to compete in bothFootball and Volleyball every Friday and

Saturday night during the months of Septemberand October, an outreach that has beenongoing for almost 30 years.

Pray with us that this event will be of

encouragement to these kids and their familiesduring this time and that we will be able tostrengthen relationships with those in ourcommunity.

This summer has been filled with activity with

five teams visiting us here in Pucallpa at different

times over the past three months. It was great to

have a short term team from Azusa Pacific

University join us again for four weeks. It was an

opportune time for them to experience all facets

of the ministry here with the kids and catch a

glimpse of what it is like to be a missionary in this

part of the world. We also had three service teams

join us from Riverside Community Church, Chicago

IL; Fellowship Bible Church, Tucson AZ; and Rock

    Hall UMC in MD.

Our second group of short termers coincided

with our Camp TEC 2012. Zion Church from

Millersville, PA was with us again to help keep

camp running smoothly. Our plans for camp were

almost put asunder due to the possibility of theteens having to recuperate classes lost through a

teachers strike, however at the last minute we

were able to go ahead with our plans and the

camp went off without a hitch. It was an

encouraging time of great teaching, and due to all

the crazy activities the teens left wanting to know

the dates of Camp TEC 2013!!

It is encouraging to see the new house come to itsconclusion and to have the keys in hand!! We lookforward with anticipation as we press on to the nextstages in the process of opening for operation. Weare currently working on the fence that surroundsthe property and actively looking for those who willtake on the different roles within the Home. It willcertainly be great to see kids in the place receivingthe care they need.

One night about a week ago tragedy struck of the families with whom we work. A fire butheir house to the ground leaving them with nto nothing and almost taking a precious littlefrom us as well. From a recent visit to the hosit was very touching to hear from the lead nthat during the fire, the reason JC* wasso bburned was because, although their 13 yearbrother escaped during the fire, JC stayed untrescued his little brother from the flamApparently, when the fire began, the mosimply couldn't wake the two younger boys fled with her baby daughter to safety. JC rishis lifeto savehis brother's.Thank you to those who have come to the

ofJC and his family. We are currently evaluahow we can best help, as well as seeking to the local community involved. It fits perfectly our current teaching of being Christs hands feet to those in need around us.

Please pray for provisions for their home,

its rebuilding, for the continued healing of bboys' burns and mom's hand, but also emotional trauma they are experiencing a

Something unexpectedhappened here at the Homethis summer... For more than two months the teachers inPeru were on strike. That in of itself is not unusual, butthings did get a little tense toward the end. It was then

that the authorities had to implement the use of tear gasto disperse the crowds, a couple of the canisters actuallymanaged to make their way onto the Home property.Obviously the kids were a bit scared, some feeling theeffects of the gas, but all was fine and they calmed downonce they realized that everything was OK. Even throughmissing classes it has been somewhat of a blessing asweve been able to spend more time with the children;teaching them English, doing devotions, having times ofworship and playing hard.

Praise God for His protection over us, especially

    through times such as these!!

Some really big news is that we have two new boys at the Home, Bento* and Javier*. Bento doesnt know hisdad, and his mom does not want to care for him. Javiersfamily lives in extreme poverty in a small mountain town

where he has no access to school, so he is living with hisdad in the valley to be able to attend classes. Please praywith us as they begin to know and learn about Jesus.

Another big prayer request is that we would be ableto purchase a large vehicle with which to transport thekids. We have a generous supporter who will match everydollar up to $7,500, with our goal being around$15,000.

A big thanks to the team from Moraga Valley who

were here in July. It was truly a blessing to have youserve with us.

    This service that you

    perform is not only

    supplying the needs

    of God's people but is

    also overflowing in

    many expressions of

    thanks to God.2 Cor. 9:12

once described sponsorship as the lifeblood ofKids Alive. Without the generous and faithfulgiving of child sponsors and other donorssupplying the needs of Kids Alive in Peru wewould be unable to rescue and raise orphaned, abandoned and abused children, in order to let

them know the good news of Jesus Christ andin turn be able to share this hope with others.

The ministries here are growing. Over 200kids come to the TEC Care Center every week,

over 100 every day at the Oasis Care CeLord willing, we will start a childrens home soon in Pucallpa and take new children intohomes in Andahuaylas and Lima. We need emore child sponsors in order to accomplish If you are already a regular donor, our he
