Juan, Joséand Vicente,founders of Lladró.

LLADRÓ REINVENTS THE HOLIDAYS with a new perspective full of color, light and life emanating from its creations. This special season is fully celebrated in its Holiday-themed pieces. Along with Santa Claus, the new Re-Deco Nativity creations, and the classic Holiday ornaments, Lladró initiates a collection of yearly litophanes. The etchings on each litophane show the beautiful transparency of porcelain against the glow of the candles in their interior.

Nature plays the leading role in one of our most spectacular fall new introductions. In a profusion of details, Iris and Cherry flowers fan represents a composition inspired by the universe of Japanese art. The most tender and poetic scenes come alive in each fold of this exquisite creation, which launches a collection of limited edition fans.

For the lovers of classic Lladró, the new Eternal Lladró section reveals the essence of the trademark figures of the brand. Thanks to Juan Lladró, the angels featured in this first issue became an important part of the Lladró collection in the 1960s.

And of course, Lladró’s creative capacity continues to unfold its full potential in impressive pieces, such as the High Porcelain dragons, and in astounding collections such as The Fantasy by Jaime Hayon, the most imaginative and unexpected proposal for this fall. A series of creations in which the color and expressiveness of Lladró decoration combine with the ingenuity of Jaime Hayon. The result is a collection of magical environments that revise the classic usual themes of the company in pieces that are as decorative as they are functional.

To share all these dreams, Lladró travels once again throughout the world in order to unveil its new collections in glamour-filled events. In consonance with the fresh and dynamic spirit of these presentations, the pages of Privilege Society have also adopted a new and fresh look. With them, we hope to fulfil our valued collectors continued interest and love to Lladró work.

“We want our works to have elegance, to be expressive, to ooze life, to have feelings. We want them to reflect the good side of life, the positive values of a human being, all that which dignifies life.”

Renewed hope

LLADRÓ PUTS ITS BEST FOOT FORWARD to present its most popular creations. Christmas decor gains renewed importance, thanks to the golden luster of Re-Deco. Along with the classic Christmas balls and bells engraved with birds and plant motifs, a collection of lithophanes is being launched this year. The candles glow in their interior and the transparency of the porcelain creates an almost photographic effect. Highlighting this touching scene, Christmas light and Evergreen of peace evokes the most traditional Christmas spirit.

A NATURE SCENE inspired by the Japanese woodblock prints known as ukiyo-e. It inaugurates a collection of limited edtition fans that may be hung on the wall or simply mounted on a stand. Iris and cherry flowers fan, which is available exclusively to Gold members through February 1, 2009. It reproduces a romantic scene with a lake, cherry trees, flowers and birds. In this exquisite piece, details acquire a special importance: everything is the result of the most meticulous work, from the iris stems to the classic ribs of the fans. The work has been handled with an intricate detail. Thus, the elements that appear in the foreground are more intense in color, as may be observed from the enamels on the cherry tree-trunk, the birds and flowers. As the scene moves further in depth, pastel tones simulating the dawn are used. This original format, apart from offering a broader visual field, fulfils a double function: on a table-top (mounted on the stand, as the picture shows) or on the wall (hanging by the hooks in the back side). The result: a decorative piece and a poetic, dynamic and balanced composition. This beautiful fan will be unveiled by Rosa Lladró in the United States during her Signing Event Tour in October. After this special tour, the piece will be an exclusive premiere for Privilege Gold members until February 1, 2009.

In this new section, Juan Lladró reveals the details and secrets of the creation process. See behind some of the company’s most emblematic pieces. An exceptional testimony that takes us into the heart of Lladró.

LEGEND HAS IT that every time a bell rings, an angel gets its wings and frolics in heaven, while watching over us on Earth. It is precisely this kind-hearted and carefree attitude that is the most recognizable characteristic of these little angels created by Lladró. “They are like light-hearted children enjoying life in a state of grace. It is easy to imagine when you see them that the angels up in heaven really are like this, playing,” explained Juan Lladró with a smile.

The angels to the left date back to the late 60s. Since then, they have remained a true favourite among Lladró collectors. We have even created matte versions and lamp stands with the same figures. These creations express tenderness and innocence. They bring a message of universal and timeless happiness, the kind that only the eyes of a child can transmit to adults.

The Lladró brothers worked on these angel figures in their own home together with the creator, Fulgencio García, known to his friends as Garcieta, who worked closely with the company for over 30 years. Juan has very warm memories of him: “Garcieta was a genius, practically unique as an artist, capable of creating wonders. It was the perfect combination of creativity and manufacturing processes.” That was how the idea of creating these angels came about, which are designed like charming little children wearing nightshirts, ready for bed.

The spontaneity of these little angles has captivated whole generations of admirers throughout the world, which makes them not only a beautiful Christmas decoration, but also a perfect companion for any corner of the home.

HIGH PORCELAINMajestic dragons –symbols of luck and prosperity– come loaded with good omens for the New Year.

Page 9: Lladró Privilege Magazine 02/08

THE ORIENTAL DRAGON is the most powerful and most representative of all the creatures of Asian mythology. For thousands of years it has symbolized imperial power, strength and prosperity. Its representation is subject to strict canons: it has a long body similar to that of a snake, and walks on legs with four claws, although imperial dragons like these have five. The eastern dragon was a good source of inspiration for Lladró’s High Porcelain team, specialized in large, spectacular and complex creations that are full of

intrincate details. The dragon appears coiled around itself, faithfully following one of the oldest representations of this magical being. The ferocity and arrogance in its eyes shows its power and strength. To decorate the red dragon, it was necessary to develop “oriental red”, a new shade in the palette of Lladró’s artists. There are two versions of the blue dragon: one covered with intense enamels, and another with golden luster, in matte and glazed finish, increasing its decorative possibilities.

THIS FALL, Lladró gifts you with new pieces which, like this majestic Santa's midnight ride, so realistic and beautiful, invite adults and children alike to dream. We have also added new figures to the Re-Deco Nativity Scene, which complete this serene and elegant arrangement thanks to the combination of white porcelain and gold luster. The Re-Deco collection continues to offer its classic figures, which are now available with a platinum luster that bestows luxury and sophistication. In addition, we have created a series of

pieces that speak to us of cultures and traditions, such as Japanese nobles and obelisks, with carefully crafted features right down to the last detail. The animal kingdom also has a place in this second launch, with pieces such as the colorful Macaw bird, Penguin love and Snow king, ideal to brighten up any corner of the home. Finally, figurative art is also present in the collection with figures such as Dressage and Bright eyes. A combination of styles, themes and decorative techniques to celebrate the most special time of the year.

Lladró has expanded its Re-Deco collection with new creations that combine the purity of porcelain and the elegance of platinum. All the splendour of luster, applied by hand in a entirely artisan process, to breathe life into this series of wonderfully expressive figures. This decorative approach creates a new image of classic pieces based on themes such as

fantasy, the animal kingdom and the exoticism of other cultures. The combination of matte and gloss finishes on the porcelain and the lusters create original textures that combine beautifully with even the most contemporary settings. With Re-Deco, Lladró is reinventing itself, acquiring greater energy and a renewed capacity to express emotions.

the designer surprised the world in 2003, after his exhibition at the David Gill Gallery in London; and the Green Chicken, created by Hayón for the exhibit Contrast and Contradictions: Chapter 1 - Crossovers // Beyond Art and Design. In keeping with Hayon’s surprise effect, Lladró enhances his creative capacity through the use of red, blue and turquoise shades especially created for the collection. The eight-sided pedestals and the candles for his candle-holders are also done in these vivid colors to highlight

their decorative potential. Intense shades even color the shoes of his principal character, The Lover —a reproduction of the shoes designed by Hayon for the majorcan company Camper. Thus, it is possible to talk about a perfect fusion between the maximum expression of Lladró’s art and the touches of fantasy proper to the artist. In these creations, Hayon reveals his admiration for the infinite possibilities of Lladró porcelain. A fantasy series in which the expressivity of decor acquires more force than ever.

THE PERFECT BALANCE between expression and function is ushered in by the new Lladró The Fantasy collection. The original pieces created by Jaime Hayón fill up with color in a fantasy-oriented reinterpretation of the company’s classic themes. Inspired by themes like love, family, childhood, or the magic of the circus, these creations are, for Hayon, a “positive contamination” from his world to that of Lladró. Thus, some of The Fantasy creations are based on icons in his career, such as the original Cactus with which

THE FOUR SEASONS and their respective colors are the source of inspiration for this new collection coming from the collaboration between Lladró and Steiff. After the successful response obtained with the Teddy bears created for Christmas 2007, these two world leaders in their respective industries are back again with Lladró Four Seasons: a collection of four Teddy bears that we will be introducing over the coming months, borrowing the colors of different moments of the year.Autumn Teddy Bear is the first piece of the collection to be presented in public. Made with

slightly wavy mohair, it brings to mind the cozy feeling of a season when the trees begin to lose their leaves and offer us a spectacular spectrum of colors. Lladró artists also created an exclusive tiara of delicate porcelain flowers in the same tones to adorn Autumn Teddy Bear. Handcrafted petal by petal, the tiara is the perfect accessory for this limited edition.Lladró and Steiff are also presenting Lladró Ornament Teddy Bear 2008, a new friend to decorate the holidays. THE WORLD PREMIERE of The Fantasy Collection in Milan last April did not go unnoticed for gallery curators, art experts and international mass media. With its 3,000 square metres/32,300 square feet of gardens, the Spazio Rossana Orlandi, an international icon in the world of design, held a full-dress affair to show off the first collection signed by the renowned Spanish designer and artistic advisor of the brand, Jaime Hayon, in one of its salons. The event, at which Rosa Lladró and Jaime Hayon were present, took place on the occasion of Il Salone, the international furniture fair of Milan. Hayon

talked to the numerous members of the mass media who were interested in the collection in the morning, among them AD España, Vogue Living Australia and the Hong Kong Ming Pao Daily News. The opening cocktails were held in the afternoon, with the attendance of a great number of viewers.Representatives of important galleries and shops from all over the world met famous international designers. In addition, the Camper Together with Jaime Hayon collection of shoes, created by the designer for the Majorcan shoe brand was presented, as well as the book Jaime Hayon Works,

released by the German publisher Gestalten. It is a monograph that revises the artistic career of the Spanish designer, including his collaboration with Lladró.

The next presentation of The Fantasy Collection took place in July, thanks to a joint event held by Lladró and Camper in Barcelona. A lively cocktail party was organized in the Lladró Boutique, at which all the familiar faces of design based in the city were present. This event will be followed this fall by new presentations of the collection in other cities of the world.

The Sweet Scent of Blossoms was the star of Rosa’s signing events in Japan.

THE ‘SEASON IN BLOOM’ COLLECTION along with other Japanese theme creations, such as Samurai Boy or the Hina Dolls, were received with special enthusiasm by those who attended the events of Rosa Lladró’s signing tour in Japan. The tour, which took place in March, passed through the cities of Sapporo, Fukuoka, Matsuyama, Kagoshima and Tokyo.

The three pieces of Season in Bloom were created upon the request of the Japanese subsidiary to show off the beauty of the cherry blossom, sakura. The flowering of this tree in Japan takes place precisely at the end of March and is highly celebrated throughout the country: a marvellous spectacle that Rosa had the chance to see. The event in the department store Mitsukoshi-Nihombashi in Tokyo was very special. Rosa was present at the establishment for four days, during which a great number of people

came together so that she could sign the pieces acquired. Spectacular sculptures of High Porcelain were also exhibited together with the Season in Bloom series, such as the Bridal Carriage and the Great Dragon (in its blue and golden version), displayed in a special setting. In addition, Lladró creations displayed all their possibilities for embellishing home decor under the title Lladró: Art for Interiors.During the event at the Tokyo boutique, the Season in Bloom pieces stood out in an original showcase exclusively created for the firm by Noriko Fukuda, one the most famous designers in Japan. Among the guests to the cocktail event –served in the purest Spanish style– were great Japanese collectors who always come to the annual events celebrated with members of the Lladró family.

THE ENGLAND & CO. GALLERY, located in the elegant Notting Hill district of London, welcomed the Magic Forest Chandelier, the spectacular lighting fixture from the Lladró Re-Cyclos Magical Collection as part of its exhibit, Reflections. The showcase, which opened its doors from May 15 to June 9, exhibited a selection of works by Bodo Sperlein based on plays of mirrors and visuals. The subtle sheen of the optic fibre threads and the blanket of leaves reflected in a mirror base as though it were a pond, creating a dream-line environment that captivated the numerous viewers gathered together.

“ANYONE BIDDING HIGHER?” This was the expression most often heard in the auction rooms of the prestigious Bogdan and Varvara Khanenko Museum of Arts in Kiev, which held an auction of the most exclusive Lladró creations last March. In the framework of an exhibit that put 200 works together –all of them almost sold out limited edition creations and

highly desired pieces of which there are scarcely any more copies on sale– 16 creations were auctioned off, and all of them left the museum with a new owner. The crème de la crème of Ukrainian society met in this Art Museum, which already received an exhibit of Lladró creations last year, in order to bid on with one of these works, which acquire enormous artistic

value because they are pieces that are very hard to find. Among the famous names that bid for the figures were the renowned musician Ian Tabachnik, painter Sergei Poyarko, journalist Aleksandr Shvetz accompanied by his wife Galina, as well as Svetlana and Daria Yegorova, mother and daughter, who own the world’s largest collection of Lladró pieces.

THE MOST LUXURIOUS cars and yachts, the most elegant jewelry, the most exclusive high-fashion designs and the most avant-garde technology shared a privileged space with Lladró’s High Porcelain creations: Peralada Castle (Girona). The reason for gathering was the Luxury Market, the first Spanish fair devoted to luxury, which took place on May 14-15, grouping almost 40 booths together. Lladró exhibited its High Porcelain sculptures, Queen of the Nile and Great Dragon, in addition to a sampler from the Naturofantastic collection and La Menina in this magnificent environment, together with local and international brands such as Loewe, Lotus, Aston Martin and Ferrari. More than 2,000 people were able to admire its creations at a fair destined to become a reference for the great international brands in the luxury sector.

The golden luster of the Naturofantastic pieces was admired by visitors to the first edition of the fair.

Saxophone Player was one of the most desired creations.

The Magic Forest Chandelier, where the butterflies have been replaced by leaves, added a magical character to the event.

Ángeles Lladró was greeted with enthusiasm (to the right) at the Monaco establishment, in Puerto Rico.

ÁNGELES LLADRÓ traveled on a signing tour that passed through Puerto Rico and the Virgin and Cayman Islands. At the Lladró boutique in Puerto Rico, located in the crowded Plaza de las Américas Commercial Centre, she was received by an audience that has repeatedly demonstrated its enthusiasm for Lladró art. Ángeles greeted the crowd and signed the creations acquired by close to 300 guests. There were very special moments at the events in Grand Cayman and Saint Thomas, with large VIP crowds. Between tapas and Spanish wine, the Grand Cayman Lladró Boutique filled up with brand enthusiasts from both the island and passengers of numerous cruises that docked in this paradise. In Saint Thomas, at the well-known A. H. Riise Mall Lladró Boutique, Ángeles signed up to 1,000 pieces!

Adults and children enjoyed these events and learned about the most recent Lladró launchings, as well as the new additions to the Re-Deco Collection and the first introduction of 2008. From the warm Caribbean, Ángeles flew to wintery Moscow, where she participated in March at an event held in the Petrovsky Passazh Lladró Boutique. The encounter, which assembled close to 300 admirers, did not lack in well-known celebrities, such as TV stars Ekaterina Andreeva, Dmitry Krylov, Tasha Strogaya, or the actor Victor Rakov.Petrovsky Passazh became a Flamenco dance floor where guests were able to admire pieces from collections such as Equus, Naturofantastic or Re-Cyclos by Committee, to the rhythm of Spanish guitar music. The event attracted the attention of 31 magazines and four TV channels.

THE THIRD EDITION of the Re-Cyclos project was one of the most-awaited Lladró collections this spring. Conceived by the British designers of Committee, Clare Page and Harry Richardson, the collection had its unveiling in Paris, at the prestigious fair Maison et Objet. The success of this presentation was followed by the warm reception in Ambiente in Frankfurt, in Moscow, in New York, at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICCF), and in an exclusive event in The Future Perfect. Towards the idea of projecting a new perspective on already-existing Lladró creations. This collection reinforces the message of the pieces poetically, suggestively and in a manner not lacking in humor. Thus, the series Evolution of Love pays homage to the stages lived by lovers, featuring three couples in which the delicate Lladró flowers symbolize the sentiments uniting them. The designers also drew inspiration from the animal kingdom to recreate the curiosity that characterizes monkeys, and the jets of water that elephants expel on their backs

by using a golden luster. Angels are a staple through this collection, in pieces that show magical creatures discovering the world. And lastly, Committee takes on the beauty hidden in the molds that give life to the works by creating original boxes decorated with golden luster. The covers reproduce the negatives of fragments of Lladró creations. Committee reveals the secrets of this collection in this exclusive interview:

How did your collaboration with Lladró begin? Did you already know the brand? Our first contact was made by Lladró’s artistic advisor, Jaime Hayón. He invited us to present some ideas for Re-Cyclos. At that time we did not know the entire dimension of Lladró.

Your work implies a new vision loaded with poetry and humor. What qualities do you share with Lladró’s art? With Lladró we share the desire to connect with the viewer and amuse him, creating objects that were capable of reminding him of special moments or sentiments in his life. We also had

Giving objects that have already fulfilled a function a new life: Clare Page and Harry Richardson (respectively from Northampton and London), the duo that comprises Committee, work on this concept. Trained in the Liverpool Art School, these designers affirm that they explore daily life with “pragmatism and imagination”. Hence, their original compositions. The purpose: an extraordinary beauty that does not stray far from the everyday object.

another thing in common: we let imagination fly and felt the desire to turn imaginary visions into a reality that would make it possible to escape from the mundane while provoking reflections on the fundamental truths of life.

How did you formulate the creative process for this project? I would say that the amusing element was the trait that defined our approach. Some figures are not useful design objects in the strict sense of the term, so it seemed to us important to offer the spectator something fun and magical. It was a lot of fun to discover the very meticulous work that Lladró carries out and to learn from its manufacturing process.

What or who inspires you?We were inspired by the Lladró brand itself. Its romanticism, sincerity and idealism called our attention and it seemed to us that it would have been inappropriate not to incorporate

these qualities into our new job. We try to use the aesthetic language of deconstruction to create a message that does not only talk about design, but also symbolizes the most important moments in life.

What meaning lies in these new pieces? What sensations do you seek?In the case of the series Evolution of Love, we were very eager to renovate the figures so that they would symbolize love in a radical but sincere way. The application of the Lladró porcelain flowers captures the psychological state of the character. Thus, in Love I the invisible emotion of the first kiss is represented as the spontaneous blooming of the flowers. In Love II, the couple isolated from the world that surrounds them, so their heads are wrapped in flowers. The third piece reflects the mutual compromise that they have acquired. In the case of the boxes, we wanted to capture the beauty of Lladró molds. From outside, their anonymous and abstract appearance calls attention; but their interior contains the minutest detail and they have the magical ability to reproduce their content again and again.

INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY were the key ideas at the sixteenth edition of Casa Decor, held in Madrid from April 10 to May 11. An obligatory event that put together the latest trends in decoration, where Lladró creations had a privileged place. In this edition, Casa Decor had created an authentic mini-city, at the entrance of which the Niagara Chandelier was elengantly displayed. It also decorated the space of Miguel Ángel Herrero. The Ascer space, designed by Héctor Ruiz and Javier García, included the horses of the Movement series and the Lladró Fragrances diffusers in their decoration.

THE MOST RECENT LLADRÓ CREATIONS were exhibited last May in Valladolid (Spain), after more than a decade since the last exhibition held in the city. The exhibit received more than 10,000 visits in ten days, with the presence of Sergio Ramírez, General Director of the Lladró Sales Division, who talked to the numerous journalists that came to see all the details of the pieces. At the presentation cocktail in the afternoon, around 250 guests were present, among them the councilor for Culture of the Valladolid Town Hall. FOR ONE MORE YEAR, Lladró showed its commitment to the world of contemporary dance by granting the 10th Annual Lladró Award for dance interpretation at the 21st edition of Dansa Valencia. This prize, which was awarded to the young company Nederlands Dans Theater II, acknowledges the effort and dedication of those who struggle to become the leading figures of dance. Marina Mascarell from Valencia received the award and the Lladró piece Before the dance mural on behalf of the members of the company, composed of 16 dancers, all of them younger than 23 years old, considered one of the most revolutionary groups in the modern dance panorama.

THE STORY OF Varguez Vardanyan and Nadezhda Mladsheva, a married couple from Ekaterinburgis, without a doubt, an example of love for the brand. Great admirers of Lladró creations for many years, they decided to expose the brand to their customers at their Ekaterinburg shop, the first store in this city where it is possible to buy Lladró figures. To thank this couple for their initiative, Rosa Lladró flew to their city in the central part of the Russian Federation accompanied by Spanish and Russian company managers. Varguez and Nadezhda were delighted to receive them and expressed their satisfaction. In a short space of time, the couple managed to spread their enthusiasm to their customers, who now come to the shop asking about Lladró new introductions.

IF THERE IS SOMETHING that particularly delights great lovers of Lladró, it is seeing how its delicate porcelain flowers are made. Hence, for spring, in the months of April and May, some of the best Lladró flower artists travelled to several countries to model the flowers that decorate the pieces, live.Carmen San Rafael’s tour included twelve cities in the United States and Canada, while María José Bustos travelled to Korea, China and Taiwan. Decoration and Luxury with Lladró in the United Kingdom

A Campaign based on Detail

THIS IS one of the expressions most often-heard at Lladró’s Consumer Relations. The lovers of the brand who call because their favorite piece, a part of it, or an accessory has broken are numerous. This was the case of a customer Sara J., who acquired Lladró’s Chessboard and, after many games, accidentally broke one of the pawns. Her frustration drove her to get in touch with Lladró to acquire a new chessboard. Imagine her surprise when a Consumer Relations

representative informed her that her Lladró Assurance Program (LAP) had been activated, so she would receive a new pawn at home. She did not remember that filling out the LAP the month after she bought the chess set ensured the replacement of the accessories without having to acquire another chess set. Andrew P., who acquired the creation The Lady of the Rose some time ago, got another piece of good news. While moving the piece, he accidentally broke the

flower that the lady carried in her hand. Thinking it would be impossible to replace it, he got in touch with Lladró. By simply sending a photograph of the flower, he received an identical part to substitute the lost one. To these cases, Lladró adds the replacement of a figurine at a 33% discount, after a breakage that is beyond repair. This is seen from the testimonies of customers, like Catharina W., the owner of a retired Lladró that suffered an irreparable breakage. She thought

that everything was lost, but because she had filled out the LAP form, she was able to acquire another of equal value at 33% less than its current retail price. Nonetheless, the greatest comfort is reserved for Privilege Gold members, who have access to a 100% LAP for the first year after purchase of a piece and while their membership is active. They receive a new one totally free in case of breakage! Is there a better reason for filling out the LAP?

“Lucky I filled out the LAP!”

LLADRÓ HAS LAUNCHED a new advertising campaign that emphasizes the essential qualities of its creations. With an original focus that highlights the piece, the new campaign underscores the characteristics that make Lladró porcelain unique. Thanks to photography showing their best attributes, the best setting or the perfect detail, the pieces turn into real characters that speak of emotions. The relationship between a mother and her child, two lovers, a flower vendor and her precious merchandise or two courting herons. The new campaign covers all the themes, styles and finishes of the extensive Lladró catalog.

CELEBRATING MOTHER’S DAY in the United Kingdom, readers of the British edition of the prestigious magazine Good Housekeeping received a practical class on how to arrange Lladró creations in home decoration. Under the guidance of Daniel Hopwood, a well-known interior designer who hosts the TV program Britain’s Best Home, and with Rosa Lladró as hostess, the event took place in the elegant London restaurant Saint James’s at Fortnum & Mason, in Piccadilly. Likewise in London, prestigious department store Harrods invited its VIP customers to an exclusive event in the course of presenting its new sections on luxury gifts and objects. Present at the event was Mohamed Al Fayed, Harrods owner and Lladró collector. The latest Lladró creations made a deep impression on the guests, above all, the High Porcelain line.

Lladró with Progress, Art and Peace

Architect Isozaki visits The City of Porcelain

ON THE OCCASION of its 50th anniversary, the well-known Spanish magazine Actualidad Económica selected Lladró as one of the 50 companies representing the Spanish economy during the last quarter century. Juan Lladró received the prize at the Palace Hotel in Madrid from the hands of His Highness, the Prince of Asturias. Moreover, the magazine also acknowledged Lladró’s commitment to art. The editorial invited the Lladró Museum to participate in the exhibit, Companies with Art: A Look at Contemporary Spanish Painting

at the Madrid Stock Market palace. Curated by the former director of the Prado Museum, Felipe V. Garín, this exhibit gathered together 50 works from 24 private entibies committed to the collection, preservation and dissemination of contemporary Spanish art. The Lladró Museum ceded the Portrait of Doña Ana Cabañero and Retamosa, by Vicente López; To the Fiesta in my Street, by Ignacio Pinazo; and Patio del Cabañal, by Joaquín Sorolla. On another front, Juan Lladró served as member of the committe that awarded the 16th Prize for Coexistence

to French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, last January, for his efforts in the fight against terrorism. With this prize, the Professor Manuel Broseta Foundation - named in 1992 for a Valencian Business Law teacher who fell victim to an ETA terrorist attack - honors persons or groups outstanding in the defence of the values of freedom, justice, coexistence and ideological pluralism. The ceremony took place in the official residence of Sarkozy, who was accompanied by his wife and high officials of the Generalitat and the Professor Manuel Broseta Foundation.

OUTSTANDING AMONG RECENT visits to The City of Porcelain, was that of the well-known Japanese architect, Arata Isozaki, creator of –among other projects– the Museum of Contemporary Art of Los Angeles (MOCA), the Palau d’Esports Sant Jordi in Barcelona and the House of Man in A Coruña, Spain. Together with the Japanese architect, famous for the harmonic combination of oriental and occidental elements in his designs, were also the mayor of Alboraya and several councilors of that municipality. After learning about the historical pictorial and porcelain works of the Lladró Museum, Isozaki showed his fascination for the scope and quality of both collections.
