“I doubt that there is any other job in the world where you get a fresh
start every twelve months! As a high school principal that, however, is the
case. We begin the 2012/13 excited about the ACT scores and ACTAAP
scores we had last year. We begin with three new teachers and 150 new
students and some new improvements in our facility. This is certainly
enough to make it exciting! More than anything we begin our proud of our
kids and believing that we can do it again—- even better this time! It is
within our power to make it a productive and wonderful year. Let’s do
that.”— Marcia Lawrence, Dardanelle High School Principal.
These are inspiring words from our principal as we begin the year anew.
Let’s hope that this year is the year we standout rather than fade into the
sands of time.
Art Students!
We need help! Our
front page while it is
good as is, needs a
major overhaul. We
are looking for any-
one to help design
the new front cover
of the news! If you
can draw then bring
designs to Mrs.
Williams in the East
Lab.

Teen Leadership Coalition:
On September 24th and 25th, 5 members of Dardanelle EAST attended the Teen Leadership Coalition spon-
sored by River Valley Prevention Coalition at Lake Point Conference Center in Russellville . DHS Students were:
Branda Dugan, Adrean Tucker, Regenea Woods, Tevin Barker, and Tyler Visathep. There, several community mem-
bers such as Sherriff Aaron Duvall spoke about teen issues and how teens getting involved can bring awareness to
their peers in order to solve those issues. The teens who attended worked with teens in other schools so that everyone
had a chance to get feedback from other areas. kinds of actions we could take to resolve them. By the end of the meet-
ing every school had some type of plan in place to disperse the information learned at the summit to their student
body.

The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who
discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a
Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many
"thinks." Horton faces a double challenge--not only must he
protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but
he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irre-
sponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, dan-
ger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz nev-
er loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyal-
ty, family, and community are challenged and emerge trium-
phant.

The Dardanelle High Football team is starting this season out great so far this year from taking the Judges
Cup from Danville to beating Clarksville, Dover, and Mayflower. The only set back the team has had this sea-
son is the loss against Pottsville (36-10). This week Dardanelle plays Waldron which will hopefully bring back
the winning drive the Sandlizard team just didn’t seem to have facing Pottsville and Booneville. The team has
made adjustments on offence and defense at practice to help defeat the Bulldogs.
