Livingstone Life!
Year 1
A huge welcome to all the children and adults in
Year 1.
School life is once again in full swing, with the
children adjusting to life in a new year group and
environment very well.
We have already completed our first topic
‘This is Me!’ where we learnt all about each other
and completed lots of our Jigsaw (PSHE).
Our book focus was ‘Supertato’ which we linked to
our feelings and working together as a team.
During our whole class reading comprehension
session we did lots of
predicting, questioning
and clarifying–
challenge your
children to see if they
remember what those fancy new words mean! In
our English sessions we have been writing about
saving the food from the Evil Peas!
Over the next few
weeks we will be
focusing on a range
of books by Julia
Donaldson and
immersing ourselves in them in our topic
‘Donaldson’s Delights’. Our first home
learning grid will be sent home next week
and has a range of activities to continue the
topic with you at home. Complete which
ever ones you like but make sure you send
items into school for us to display proudly in
our corridor for all to adore!
Handwriting is a focus for us, getting the
children back into writing since the Summer
break. If you need any guidance on how you
can help at home or need a list of the letter
formation rhymes then please ask the class
teacher. The reading room is open now so, if
you haven't already, make sure you pop in
and get your first books.
We have already started our visits over to the Library, Reading Garden and
Play Equipment based at the Junior
school.

Important dates & Key Information
PE days: Hazel– Monday morning
Willow– Tuesday morning
Maple– Wednesday morning
Year group– Tuesday afternoon
Please ensure PE kits are named and earrings are
removed.
Water bottles: Please make sure drinks for in the
classroom are water only.
Outdoor Environment
The children will have access to the outdoor
learning environment in year 1 all year round–
come rain or shine! Please ensure your child has
suitable outer wear for the colder/ wetter
weather.

children thoroughly
