Living For Christ
Bluffton United Methodist Church
A “Stephen Ministry” Church
Volume 13, Issue 11 NOVEMBER 2017
I was having lunch with a long
lost friend the other day. We were
catching up, and he filled me in on the details of his life
since we had last conversed.
Wow! Life has been hard for him. His health, his
marriage, his job, his kids...you name it, and it was falling
apart. My heart ached for him. I prayed for him on the
spot and have continued to do so since.
When I got home, I grabbed my wife and gave her a big
ole squeezy hug and kiss. I was so grateful!!
Here's my point, I know it's cliché, but we really do
need to count our blessings and thank God. If we have a
hard time seeing those blessings, minister to someone
else. The grace He has placed on your life will come more
clearly into focus.
Psalm 103:2 Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not
all his benefits-
Your Pastor, Joey

STEPHEN MINISTRY
It’s Part of Life’s Journey
The Bible says our struggles aren’t unique.
They’re “common to man” (1 Cor 10:13 NKJV).
Your secret isn’t really a secret, it’s just a secret shared
by others who are equally afraid to talk. As long as we
think we can manage our difficulty on our own, we don’t
talk about it.
You’re not the only person facing job or financial
difficulties, or marital challenges, or health issues or the
loss of a loved one. This is important to know because it
takes away your feeling of isolation. It also helps you
know that if others have made it through their struggle,
then by God’s grace you can, too.
We can’t pray away the tests of life or quote Scripture
and make them go away, but we can trust in Jesus to be
with us every step of the way as we work through
whatever adversity we’re facing. And sharing your
struggle confidentially with a trained Stephen Minister
can also be very therapeutic.
If you or someone you know is facing a challenge,
Stephen Ministers are available at BUMC to
confidentially listen to and encourage you, and remind
you of Jesus’ presence in your life. Please contact one
our Stephen Leaders: Mary Ellen Parks, 843.368.1852 or
Sara Jenkins, 843.705.2172.
The Stephen Ministry hospital visitation schedule for
November is noted below. If you know of someone in the
hospital during this month, please cal l :
Oct 29 – Nov 4 Sara Jenkins, 843.705.2172
Nov 5 – 11 Mary Ellen Parks, 843.757.1577
Nov 12 – 18 Janet LaMartina 208.409.0476
Nov 19 – 25 John White, 843.705.3513
Nov 26 – Dec 2 Linda Cecil, 859.619.1777
THE MISSION TEAM will
meet in the conference room
on Nov.15, 2017 at 6 p.m.
Janice Trainor is the
chairperson of the Mission Team.
The October Miracle Jars supporting Kamina
University amounted to $1,259! Thank you so
much for your very generous giving!
For the month of November the mission jars are going to
support veterans in need. The money will be donated to
the Ralph Johnson VA medical center in Charleston, with
the affiliate of the Beaufort Naval Hospital. 100% of the
money goes directly to veteran's needs, such as
transportation to/from medical appointments, food,
housing support, family support during medical
appointments, help for last wish for those in hospice, and
anything directly related to veteran issues. We are also
donating to Pets for Vets-the Atlanta Chapter. They take
dogs from shelters, train them and give them to any vet in
need. They have taken dogs for some of our local rescue
groups. They do not charge any veteran for their dog
placements. Thank-you for all of our veterans.
The Mission Team is also collecting
food for Bluffton Self Help for
Thanksgiving. We will be collecting
until Sunday, November 12th. The
specific items needed are: Canned
Yams, Boxed or bagged Stuffing mix, Chicken Broth, Turkey
or Chicken gravy, Rice, Boxed Cornbread or Biscuit mix,
Cranberry sauce, White or Sweet potatoes, Canned Ham,
Roasting pans, Can openers. There will be bins in the
Narthex and Fellowship Hall.
You may also bring directly to Bluffton Self Help the
following: Frozen Turkey, Fresh Chicken, Ham, Fresh
Collard greens, Fresh Herbs. They are located at 39
Sheridan Park Circle, Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–4:00 PM.
The Mission Team will be
sponsoring an Angel Tree for
Hardeeville Elementary School. It will
be a pre-K grade, ages 4-5 years. We
will have more information later in
the month on the children involved
with wishes and sizes.
The Mission team has arranged to
collect used eyeglasses and hearing aids
for the Lion's Club. There is a box in the Narthex to deposit
these.

2017 WORSHIP & SPECIAL EVENTS CALENDAR
THE EVOLUTION BIG BAND
On Sunday, November 19th at 3:00 PM, the Evolution Big Band (formerly the Stardust Orchestra) under the direction of David Fleming, will perform in concert at Bluffton United Methodist Church. The Evolution Big Band performs modern arrangements of jazz standards and contemporary big band music.
Accordingly, the band has changed its name to the Evolution Big Band to reflect the changing nature of its music. This performance will feature vocals by Michael Schwartzkopf and Miss Penney Lynn Smith. Bluffton United Methodist Church is pleased to be the rehearsal home for this fine band.
Founded in 2004 as the Stardust Orchestra, the all-volunteer group includes some of the top jazz musicians in the Low Country who are committed to keeping big band music alive, relevant and contemporary. With a library of more than 2,000 arrangements spanning a range of swing and jazz styles, the band features songs made popular by Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, and upbeat arrangements popularized by the Tonight Show Orchestra, Buddy Rich, Michael Bublé and Nat “King” Cole, among others.
This concert is free of charge but a free will offering will be conducted.
For more information regarding the Evolution Big Band, visit www.evolutionbigband.com.
CHARLESTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA HOLIDAY BRASS
Tickets are now available for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Holiday Brass Concert in the Music Suite following each worship service and at Markel's Card & Gift Shop in Kittie's Crossing. Ticket prices are: adults, $10 and children, $5. Only cash or checks made payable to Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) will be accepted.
The holiday concert is family-friendly, appealing to both children and adults, and will feature Christmas and holiday songs as well as carol sing-a-longs.
The concert will be held at Bluffton United Methodist Church Tuesday, December 12, 7:00 PM. Last year the concert was sold out, so get your tickets early. The concert is also open to the public. Please plan to attend and invite others to join you
On Sunday, December 17th at both worship services, the Bluffton United Methodist Church Chancel Choir will present the cantata "Sing Joy to All the World!" composed by Lloyd Larson. Collaborating with Chancel Choir will be Janice Creech, piano, Karen Wyld, flute, Kathleen Duncan, oboe, Lucy Scandrett,
harp, Bob Wilson, Elisabeth Kelson, and Don Jemella, percussionists.
The message of Christmas is one of deep and abiding joy! It is a message filled with the assurance that no matter how difficult the journey may seem; no matter how hopeless the situation my feel; no matter how long and dark the night may be, joy will eventually come. That is the promise of God: "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes with the morning." Psalm 30:5b
Share the joy and wonder of Christ's birth by inviting family, friends and neighbors to join you for this special worship service.

Again, we love all of you and appreciate all the help you have always so willingly given us.

finalize our plan for picking up the
pecans, packing them into orders, and delivering them to
our customers. Do not wait until November 4th to give
your orders to John Kenyon/BUMM mail box. There is a
lot of manual work to put the orders into our

ASAP. All men are invited to come to our
breakfast/meeting that starts at 8:00 AM, November
4th in fellowship hall.
