MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and Staff,

Congratulations and thankyou to everyone for a

highly successful Term 1. There have been a

number of new initiatives and programs that

the school has initiated this year and

indicators are that the student learning

programs will be enhanced as a result.

As I indicated to you last year the school has

received an additional $680,000.00 through

the Federal Government’s National Partnership

(NP). This significant amount of money is to be

used to develop programs that will improve

student learning outcomes. After a very

rigorous evaluation of school based data two of

the areas that were most in need are literacy

and community engagement.

This term we have implemented a very detailed

and intensive three year professional learning

program to improve student literacy skills. All

students from Year 1 – 6 have had their

reading fluency and comprehension assessed

individually using a standard process and we

look forward to reporting their progress over

the year.

The school has also tried to engage more

effectively with parents and caregivers. The

NP funding has allowed us to employ a

Community Liaison Officer (CLO), two days per

week. Mrs Naffa (Maysoun) is at school

Monday and Friday and works with ALL

parents. She has organised parent programs

that run almost every Monday with sessions

being held in English and Arabic.

Last week we held our first parent teacher

conferences for 2012 and it was great to see

so many of you throughout the year. The

teachers have said that they really enjoyed

meeting with parents/caregivers and that

spreading the conferences over the week

meant more time could be spent with you.

Please let us know if you found this more

valuable. Thank you for taking the time to work

with us in educating your children.

SRC

The SRC would like to congratulate Wajih El-Sayed from 3C and Viyan Sharma from 3M for their successful proposal

for a playground notice board. These boards display which areas are open for each specific grade during recess and

lunch. Temporary notice boards have been created and are displayed on the SRC and Stage 3 notice boards.

Permanent boards will be introduced in the near future.

Congratulations to the following students who have been successful in making it through to the final round of the

School Leader Elections. These students will be spending the next two weeks campaigning. A poster will be hung up

with their photograph and a small blurb describing why they should be elected as a school leader. They will prepare

and present their speeches to years 3 – 5 on Monday the 13th November in the hall. Students will then vote and the

successful School Leaders for 2018 will be announced during the Presentation Day Assembly on the 4th December

2017.

Thank you to all those who applied and we wish the following candidates good luck!

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS 2018

Kindergarten enrolments are now open for 2018. Any child, who is turning 5 by 31st July, 2018 is eligible to start school next year. Please call in at the office for further information, between the hours of 9.30am – 2.00pm Monday to Friday. Your child needs to be registered to take part in the Transition to School Program. Also if you are a temporary visa holder you need to apply now for Kindergarten enrolment to make sure that the paper work is completed in time. If you have any neighbours with children who are eligible to start school please pass this information on to them. The school needs to know the number of students who are intending to start school so that we can organise classes, timetables and ensure a smooth start to the school year. If you have any questions please ask. We are more than happy to assist.

SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOL AND OC PLACEMENTS

Applications are now open for placements in Opportunity Classes for students in Years 5 and 6. Some primary schools across NSW offer places in ‘OC’ for gifted and talented students in Years 5 and 6. To be considered for placement students must sit the Opportunity Class Placement Test. For information about applying and the placement process go to https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5.

Selective high schools cater for the specific needs of high achieving gifted students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. Selective schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level. Parents apply when the student is in Year 5. The students sit the test in March of Year 6.

To be considered for placement students must sit the Selective High School Placement Test. For information about applying and the placement process go to https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7.

For placements in either of these, you need to complete the applications on-line. Click on the links above to take you to the appropriate web pages or type the link into the address line on your computer. The school does not have paper application forms.

NAIDOC

On Tuesday September 5th 2017 the Aboriginal students from our school participated in a combined Naidoc Day at Miller Public School. The event was very well run with traditional food, games and activities for the children.

Kind Regards,

Carmela

PARENT ONLINE PAYMENTS It is now possible for parents and caregivers to make online payments to the school for amounts owed by students for items such as excursions, sport, sales to students and school contributions. Payments are made via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. They can be made using either a Visa or

MasterCard or debit card. The payment page is accessed from the front page of the schools website

(www.liverpool-p.schools.nsw.edu.au) by selecting $ Make a payment.

When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:

the students name, and class and reference number OR

the students name, and date of birth. These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment

system. (There is also the option to enter the Student Registration number and Invoice number. You do not need to

enter anything here.)

This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are captured in a secure manner, these details are not passed back to the school. You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed. Receipts can be emailed and/or printed. Details of the payments are passed daily to the school where they will be receipted against your child’s account. As a

receipt has been issued from the payment page a further receipt will not be issued by the school. For any enquiries

regarding the Online Payment process please contact the School Administration Office on 9602 7882 or 9602 7111.

SCHOOL HOURS AND ATTENDANCE

A reminder that school hours are from 8.55am until 3.00pm. Supervision begins at 8.30am and it is recommended that children do not arrive before that time, unless required for sports training or dance practice. All children should be at school no later than 8.45 am as this allows time to order lunches, catch up with friends and to get organised for the day. The day concludes at 3.00pm and there is NO teacher supervision after that time. It is a parental responsibility to organise for children to be collected from school on time. We do understand that emergencies happen and you need to let us know, if you can, and make sure that all phone numbers and contact details are up to date. Also it is legislated that children must attend school on time everyday unless they are sick or seek exemption from the Principal. If for any reason your child is not at school please contact the office and you will be advised of the requirements. Children cannot learn unless they are at school and any extended absences may impact negatively on their learning. There are significant financial penalties if your children miss extensive periods of time without good reason. If you are having difficulty with your child’s attendance please let Mr Tapuska know as we may be able to help.
