Shopping Trip to IKEAWe’re off for a little shopping at IKEA in Tampa

on Wednesday, January 23. We will leave the Village at 9:30 a.m. IKEA sells a wide range of affordable ready-to-assemble furniture, plus housewares. Be-sides providing a copy of their latest catalog for you to borrow while you shop, the store also provides tape measures, pencils, and note pads for you to write down information like price tag details or where to pick up your item. The IKEA store has a lot of fully furnished showrooms. You may sit on the chairs, lie on the beds, and try out everything. Sales representa-tives won’t bother you while you shop. Need help? Just ask! Wear your walking shoes—this store is in a warehouse-like space with many different items to see. Remember, if you purchase a furniture item you will have to put it together. Lunch will be “on your own” at the on-site restaurant which offers full meals—from sandwiches to cake and coffee and ev-erything in-between. We will leave IKEA at 1:45 p.m. If interested, please sign up in the Admin-istration Office.

The Florida State FairOn Wednesday, February 13, we will head to

the Florida State Fair in Tampa. The cost is $7 for “Senior Day” at the Fair. The bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. and we plan to stay until 3:00 p.m. for a day of fun!

The Fair offers one-of-a-kind entertainment that is wild, wacky, and wonderfully weird; such as, rooster crowing contests, pig races, circus me-nagerie, a ‘mooternity’ ward, and so much more! Lunch will be “on your own” at the fair. If inter-ested, please sign up using the Activity Sign Ups Lottery System beginning Monday, January 14. (See Administration for details.) There will be no refunds after Friday, January 25.

Museum of Science and IndustryTampa’s Museum of Science and Industry—

“MOSI” for short—is a scientific playground with more than 100 hands-on activities! We will explore MOSI on Wednesday, January 30. The Village bus will depart at 9:20 a.m.

Guests can lie on a bed of nails, build a robot, explore optical illusions, challenge themselves with hands-on brain puzzles, explore another world in our NASA-funded Mission: Moonbase lunar colony, touch the future in Connectus and learn about planets and our solar system in the Saunders Planetarium.

MOSI’s innovative exhibits urge you to ask ques-tions and expand your mind. They show you how cool curiosity can be and spark conversations about the world and the future among both kids and their grandparents, between spouses and with strangers. There’s no other place like it in Tampa Bay! The admission cost is $11 per person.

We will leave the Village at 9:20 a.m. and head to Perkins Restaurant and Bakery for brunch “on your own”. Perkins offers everything from pancakes and omelets to chicken pot pies, burgers, and a variety of sandwiches, soups, and salads. The “Fit Favorites” selections are a great choice for those who enjoy eating on the healthier side. And don’t forget about Perkins bakery, offering a variety of fresh baked pies, muffins and cookies for a sweet treat any time of day, and pair nicely with a pot of their fresh brewed bottomless coffee. Their diverse, moderately priced menu features family favorites for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. After brunch, we will explore MOSI and at 2:00 p.m. we will meet at the Saunders Plan-etarium for a 45 minute learning experience about the planets in our universe.
