DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS (FN) The Department of Mathematics conducted an online Inter-Departmental Kirigami art work competition for the UG students on 15th September 2020.The theme for the Kirigami competition was “MATHEMATICAL SHAPES AND ARCHITECTURAL STRUCTURES”. E-certificates were given to all the participants.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS (FN)

The Department of Physics conducted an online Intra-Departmental competition on poster making, photography, cartooning and mini projects on the theme ‘Light’.

DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH (FN) The Department of English organized a Five-Day Faculty Development / Student Development Program on LaTeX in Association with Spoken Tutorial, IIT -Bombay. The Program was conducted from 14th September 2020 to 18th September 2020. IIT- Bombay spoken tutorial video lessons were sent to the participants. E-certificates were given to the participants at the end of the course.

DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY (FN) The PG & Research Department of Zoology conducted FDFS for the 1st year students on 2nd October 2020, through Google meet platform. This program was conducted to enhance the knowledge about the opportunities provided by the department. Dr. Amtul Azeez, Head of the Zoology Department and the Vice principal of the College welcomed the freshers. The second-year students greeted the freshers with musical performance. Then the secretaries presented a powerpoint presentation about the course and the events related to the department.

DEPARTMENT OF HOMESCIENCE (FN) The department of PG studies and Research in Home Science celebrated the National Breastfeeding Week on 07.08.2020. A workshop was conducted and a recipe formulation competition on galactagogue was also conducted in which the students enthusiastically participated. It was judged by Dr. Avanti Prabhakar, Assistant professor, Home Science department. All the participants and the winners were given e-certificates.

The department also celebrated the National Nutrition Week 2020 – Rashtriya Poshan Maha on 08.09.2020 and 09.09.2020. The theme for the celebration was - EAT RIGHT: BITE BY BITE. Various competitions were conducted for the students of the department in which they enthusiastically participated. On 08.09.2020, an intense online quiz was conducted which constituted three rounds with about 40 participants. On 09.09.2020, a webinar was conducted in which the speaker –

Mrs.Varsha Pramodh spoke about NUTRITION IN PEDIATRICS. It was an interactive and informative session where the students came forward with their thoughtful questions. The students of the department also participated in the Recipe formulation competition, salad art and cereal art. All the participants and the prize winners were given e-certificates.

DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION SCIENCE(AN)

The Department of Electronics and Communication Science conducted a live YouTube session on 28th September 2020. It was for the skill-based paper for the final year students. The topic was about “Resistor and it’s typing”. The session revolved around electronic components, description, it’s working and construction. It was assisted by the Head of the Department. DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR DESIGN AND DECOR (AN)

The second and the third-year students of the department of interior design and decor conducted a welcoming event called “KEFI” for their juniors on 7.9.2020. The motive of this event is to connect and converse with their juniors virtually through Google meet. Few games were conducted online like “Kahoot Movie Quiz”, “Treasure Hunt” etc., in which the students enthusiastically participated. Singing and dancing video was also played which was performed by their seniors. A few memorable moments and events of the past years were shown to the juniors in a video format. They also bid farewell to two of their teachers at the end of the event. It was indeed a wonderful and interactive event.

THE DEPARTMENT OF TRAVEL &TOURISM MANAGEMENT (AN)

The Department of Tourism and Travel Management conducted an online quiz from 30th September to 5th October based on “Travel and Tourism” as part of the World Tourism Day Celebration. Undergraduate and postgraduate students of all streams were invited to participate in this amazing quiz. E Certificates were given to all the participants.

PLACEMENT CELL

The placement cell organised a Cognizant elocution on 18th September 2020, through Webex platform. The topic was “What is the change you would like to bring to this world by 2020?”. Mr. Bryan Cisarriol and Dolly Mary Malkham were the host and judges for the elocution. Around 200 students participated in the event.

YOUTH RED CROSS

The YRC unit along with Yuva Sakthi NGO conducted a group discussion on the topic “Do we need third language?” and a motivational session on the topic “How to handle the New Normal?”. The speaker was Ms. Vallabhi Chellam A, Physiotherapist. The webinars were conducted on 20th September 2020 through google meet platform. Yuva Sakthi NGO also conducted an online competition ‘Marathal Thagumo’. Nearly 50 students from JBAS actively participated in various competitions.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS

JBAS NCC participated in the online intercollegiate competition ‘SARVASHRESTH’ which was conducted by SRM NCC from September 25th to 27th. Fifteen cadets from our college participated in various events. The various events were Best cadet, Individual drill, Lecturette, Thal Sainik events like Field craft battle craft, health and hygiene, Map reading, obstacles training, and Tent pitching. The events were

conducted through zoom and google meet platforms. The results were announced on 28th September 2020. JBAS NCC bagged the following prizes,

1. Cdt. G. Almas - OVERALL THAL SAINIK - 1ST PRIZE

2. Cdt. D. Sujitha - FIELD CRAFT BATTLE CRAFT- 1ST PRIZE

3. Cdt. G. Almas - LECTURETTE - 3RD PRIZE

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

As a part of our NSS event, the program officers and secretaries decided to celebrate the Teacher’s Day. An online quiz was conducted for all the students of JBAS to pay a tribute to all the staffs in our collage who has worked hard for the upbringing of the students and the college. The quiz consisted of 25 MCQ type questions which pertained to the history of our college and staffs. This event organized by the NSS unit helped the students know more about the college and has enlightened information pertaining to our staffs and college.

TEACHERS AND LEARNING

A teacher is a person who inspires, teaches, encourages and shapes the future of the student. Teachers groom the students into the finest individuals. They are the supreme influencers in the lives of students, without teachers no other professions would have evolved. From kindergarten to university it is them who bring change in us, encourage us to take up risks and learn from our failures so that we can become a responsible citizen and give back our service to society.

We all owe an immense gratitude to all the teachers in our lives, right from our kindergarten teachers who worked with our innocent minds ,cautiously embedded the basics in our minds, this is called as the learning ,It’s because of them today I am able to write this article, learning is just not about getting information, It’s about using it practically ,experimentally in our lives and our primary, high school teachers who worked dedicatedly in introducing us to the world ,it was their teaching methods using props, teaching aids which made us to understand practically, and the university teachers who transforms us to be a responsible youth, a person with good character and intellectuals, truly a teacher is like a candle which consumes itself to light the way for others.

JUST ANOTHER GIRL

At the age of five, she was forced, forced till her gut collapsed and tum ruptured. At the age of ten, she is matured, matured enough to marry at least that's what they said to be with someone triple her age. At the age of fifteen, she is a mother or father of a child having a child, crushing all the possible dreams she's ever had. At the age of fifteen, she is a widow with health declining like that of a lethargic snake awaiting its death. At the age of sixteen, she's in a prison guarded by cold beings and searching for a single grain to stop the tireless cry of her child. At the age of seventeen, she's dead with a young girl being forced near her lifeless body. And who is she, you may ask

She's just another girl Just another girl in a war-torn country. Anonymous at birth

and at death.
