In the month of May our sermon series will be entitled

"Who is Jesus (according to the Bible)." We live in a day

where many voices have made several claims about Jesus, but who does Jesus claim to be? This series will help you

to defend your faith and renew your faith as we look at

the claims, the miracles and love our Lord and Savior.

So please join us in May for worship. I pray that you will

be blessed because of it.

Hope to see you Sunday, Mark

Nuggets from the Bible | Romans 4:5

“But to Him, who does not work

but believes on Him who justifies

the ungodly, his faith is

accounted for righteousness.”

Picture in your mind three men standing before the judgment bar of God. There’s Spotless Sam, Honest Henry, and Deceptive Dave. Spotless Sam is of such rare virtue, you usually find only one in a generation. To his neighbors and fellow workers, he appears that he is

unable to do anything wrong. He can always see the good in a bad person. If you cross his path the only thing you’ll get is an invitation to dinner. In his home things are no different. His wife is the apple of his eye and his children adore him. He’ll lay down the paper or cancel his golf game to spend time with his six year old.

Honest Henry lives the life he preaches. He’s a bit disagreeable at times and a little inconsiderate. But at the same time, he’s far from a wretch. He’s a good fellow, and minds his own business. If he borrows your lawn mower he returns it full of gas. It’s clear his standards are high.

Then, there’s Deceptive Dave. He’s quite a different story. The only thing honest about him is his address. Most people like him until

they get to know him. He’s selfish and sneaky. He always has his own interests at heart. He treats his family as though they’re his servants. The longest he lives in a neighborhood is two years. At times his vocabulary is limited to four letter words.

As these three men stand before God which of the three will hear, “Enter into the joy of the Lord?” None stands a chance. The Bible gives at least two reasons why no amount of goodness will ever get us to heaven.

One is, regardless of how good we are we’ve still sinned, that is we’ve missed the mark of perfection. Sin demands a penalty and that penalty is death. A just God cannot overlook sin, it has to be paid for.

A second reason why no amount of goodness will get us to heaven is that no amount of goodness is as good as God. He is the standard. Billy Graham, the pope, or any “good” person is not good enough. Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

But God hasn’t left us hopeless. What we need He has provided. 2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us that God made Him (Christ) who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

How do we get this forgiveness and righteousness? The Bible answers that question in one word. The word is “believe.” It means to trust, to rely on. Jesus' death in our place paid for our sins. For this reason we can stand before a holy God with the perfect righteousness of Christ. We are eternally saved.
