Got Issues?Problems. we’ve had a few. Live breaks down some typical ways to deal with troubles and woes… and spells out the likely consequence.Words: Robbie Wojciechowski

Lashing Out And Punching Your Bedroom WallBricks hurt, basically. And what did the wall ever do to deserve a can of kick ass? Conclusion is, lashing out resolves nothing but your own anger. It’s not a problem solver, be wary of it. DEAL with things instead.

Getting Advice from The Wrong PersonTalking about your problems is better than doing nothing, but sometimes speaking to the wrong person can lead to even more problematic consequences. If you consult friends, use a wide array of different perspectives... and speak to the pros, too.

WorryingWe all worry, it happens. We’re humans, it’s in our nature. It’s no bad thing. But worrying never solved the crisis of man and the washing up. It was solved by being proactive, taking action, and getting through it. Think positive, DO positive.

Writing the Problem DownTalking’s all well and good, but nothing ever happened without action. Take the steps to bring the problems you face out of the confusing word of your brain, and onto a page. See, look, they’re staring at you now. That’s a little easier, isn’t it?

Ignoring itProblems are thick, and difficult to walk on like gravy. So, it’s never best to ignore ‘em. You wouldn’t want dry roasties, would ya now? See your GP, ring an advice line or talk to your friends. It’s short term pain, long term gain.

“Friends and family are the core of who you are and they’ll support you through hard times. They say a lot about you and show you a lot back about who you are, your character and the way that you form relationships. Life without real meaningful relationships, positive and negative ones that you can learn from, mean that you are just missing out on a whole load about yourself that you can only get from what you can see in your relationships. Its really important to take your time, to know that you can’t just meet people and consider that they are your friends.

I’d tell my 15 year old self that boys aren’t that important. I’ve still got a lot of my girlfriends from that time, but who you are is more important that who the boys are!

When it comes to chasing dreams, I would say, embrace the challenges, learn from them, push through them, I don’t think anything is achieved by quitting. When the hurdles hit, you might have to go back and take another run up, but it’s always worth doing. Also remember to breathe!”

LIVE MAGAZINE @LiveMagUK@dariusknight As an athlete there’s always a need for a competitive edge. How do you make sure you’ve got a strong mindset ahead of yr game?

Darius Knight @dariusknight@livemaguk I listen to some good hip hop motivational music and think about the hard work I put in and the extra time I’ve put in.

LIVE MAGAZINE @LiveMagUK@dariusknight South London can seem a hard place for young people to grow up. What’s your advice for handling life in an urban landscape?

Darius Knight @dariusknight@livemaguk You got to be strong and know what you want in life! Keep yourself to yourself, respect everyone and anyone! Stay with positive.

LIVE MAGAZINE @LiveMagUK@dariusknight Who do you talk to if you’ve got a problem?

Darius Knight @dariusknight@livemaguk My godfather as he always gives me best advice, as if he was me. If it’s a dream or spiritual I ask my gran, if it’s about women, my uncle ha.

LIVE MAGAZINE @LiveMagUK@dariusknight Who’s the strongest person you know?

Darius Knight @dariusknight@livemaguk Hmmm my mum, for letting me do what I want from the age of 12 when I decided my future. She’s been through a lot, losing her mum at 15.

LIVE MAGAZINE @LiveMagUK@dariusknight Finally, what’s the best bit of advice for young people facing problems that seem difficult to get over?

Darius Knight @dariusknight@livemaguk Stop and think 1st before you react! I always think would my family, sponsors or governing body be happy with what I said or do?

LIVE’s spring spesh is all about how we can all make the best possible decisions in life, whether that’s health, happiness or in the case of Georgia Anderson, making it as a presenter on SBTV. Words: Robbie Wojciechowski

As a journalist you encounter problems every single day. But what’s the most proactive way you’ve found to get around them?Erm… I’d say by finding the funny side.

The media world is always hailed as being a bad career choice. How did you manage to get the people around you, like your family, to support you?I didn’t give them too much choice! I interned through uni and college so it wasn’t a surprise I guess. Plus they love me, so you know.

How do you think places like SBTV can help support young people with vivid ambitions? How did it support you?It gave me a chance to do what I always wanted, and provides a platform for young people to get there and do the damn thing.

Do you think people feel like they have a responsibility to set up organisations that help young people? Cuz politicians won’t? I think with the struggle to get jobs at the moment everyone is definitely sticking together a bit more and swaying towards work, and with more value and social enterprise than just grab the money and run vibes.

It’s good though. Way it should be. What’s the toughest thing you’ve ever faced?Erm, this is hard. Probably time management stuff like juggling a lot of different things. Doing uni and SBTV was hardcore.

To many, the real world can seem an aggressive one. What advice would you give to people leaving school to start a career?I’d say just think about what you actually want to do and get your serious hustle on and you’ll be fine!

Finally, what’s the best advice you’ve ever had in music? And in life?Labrinth once said to me that pressure is a privilege and that stuck with me. And the idea that the only person standing in your way is you. That always resonates. So yeah. Thanks! Byeeeeeeeee!

Aiiiiight little Tej?

If you don’t pay attention to what I’ve got to say then be rest assured that you will royally mess things up, and the upward climb from failure is a tough trek that I’m still on. Do everything you can to avoid being here. Think I’m joking? It’s that attitude that lands you here: the slightly arrogant attitude that some things can never happen to you.

My next piece of advice will leave you baffled but it’s one of the greater challenges of life: you really must try to listen to certain people more, and you will need to learn to listen to certain people less. Listening to criticisms and dressing downs will be for your self-improvement, but remember that no-one knows you better than you know yourself: never go along with any ride when things don’t feel OK, and when you get that feeling in your gut that things are gonna take a turn for the worst, they normally do. Act quicker to make sure they don’t.

Be braver. You only get one life and sitting out races because you are sure that you will lose or get hurt is a waste of life itself.

Never stop writing. It’s the best habit you’ve ever had. It’s fine to be you with all of your own experiences. People-pleasing is futile. Do a few things well and don’t waste time. Success is so empowering, and you can be powerful if you try, consistently.

Biggest shocker: discipline and planning are actually good things after all :)

Letter To My Younger SelfWhen Live writer Tej sat down to write a letter to her younger self she realised she had a LOT to say. Interview: Tej Adeleye

Letter To Myself… In The FutureIt’s weird but true that one day you’ll be old like your parents. Luckily, Live’s spring spesh has a way of talking to your future self to make sure you stay on track. Fill this in, cut it out and have a look in ten years or something.

Can you make sure you...

Please don’t...

Remember that...

Always...

The worst thing you could do would be…

But the best thing you could do is...

I’m the kind of person who...

And in case you’ve forgotten, my aim in life is...

Hollie, 16The best advice I ever got was when someone told me to stop wishing for the sunshine and to start living in the rain. I totally listened.

Natasha, 16Best advice? I got this at a concert. I got told to smile,

stop wishing for stuff and make It happen. It’s the kind

of advice I like to pass on.

Joe, 18My mum told me to do something I enjoy. It’s good advice.

Ashley, 20Simple. ‘If it doesn’t have a nice train station, don’t go there.’

Sirad, 16I don’t really take advice

but one thing I remember is when my friend told me not

to give up. It wasn’t anything particular, just generally.

Eesha, 16Ummm, ‘live life to the fullest and don’t regret anything’. I sometimes act on it.

Frankie, 16I’ve got advice from my family,

my parents and from school and basically they all say the same thing, which is achieve what you want and don’t let

distractions get in the way.

Jodie, 16I guess a combination of people telling me that I shouldn’t let people get me down, that I should stay safe and that I should do what I want, really.

Dwight, 15I got some advice from my sister. She said I should be

myself and no one else. I’d pass that on to my kids.

Live’s Ria Dwyer went out onto the streets of Lambeth to ask you a simple question: ‘what’s the best bit of advice you’ve ever got?’

Vox Pops!
