In Montalbán 11, the pieces of art of
the master Carlos Cruz-Diez, made by
the Cruz-Diez Atelier in Paris, merge
harmoniously with the architecture,
converting the structure into a monumental
and living piece of art. The majestic
building, which façade, central patio and
entrance lobby have been preserved due
to their historical value, displays in its
inner side the Chromatique Environment
conceived by the artist specifically for the
configuration of the common and private
areas of the property, respecting the
special features of the place where it will
be settle.
In the entrance hall, a mural of Induction Chromatique à Double Fréquence
receives the visitor. In this work, different
chromatic ranges continuously appears and
disappears, based on the direction and
intensity of the luminous source and on
the spectator’s angle and visual distance.
This mural leads to the lift, from whose
cabin visitors will have the opportunity
to gaze at a vibrant Chromointerférence
that evolves during the time of the
course of the journey and that changes
in each floor, resulting in eight different
chromatic harmonies. The sensorial
experience derives in a universe of colour
created by the brightness of light on the
Transchromie located in each home, which
reflections permanently change with the
movement of the sun throughout the day.
In Montalbán 11, the artist has created a
chromatic journey in perfect symbiosis with
the space, which plastic value contributes
to the enrichment of the ensemble.

Montalbán 11, is a privileged location where it is present the stamp of a noble past and in which
nature and urbanism are in perfect synergy with art and architecture. This new icon of the city raises
a time machine where the constructive style of the industrial era, the organic feature of modern era
and comfort and sensitivity of contemporaneity converge.
In Montalbán 11, coherent and harmonic fusion of art and architecture make possible that usefulness
transcend in beauty. “The architectonic fact turns into a scenario where residents and visitors of the
building, when interacting with the works, become into co-authors of them by generating chromatic
variations in the space and time of their journey. The works of art grant to the heritage environment
an emotional and affective value, contributing to consolidate the sense of reference, ownership and
proud to reside in this exceptional property”, affirms Carlos Cruz-Diez, who since 1967 has made
many artworks that integrate architecture and public spaces in many cities around the world.
By initiative of In Situ Art Projects, architecture studio subsidiary of Odalys Group, dedicated
to develop integration projects of pieces of art in architectonic and urban spaces; in alliance
with Atelier Cruz-Diez Paris, with an experience of more than fifty years in the elaboration and
installation of Carlos Cruz-Diez’ works, it emerges in Madrid the first global project for integrating
art with architecture in Spain, where colour, light, transparencies, reflections, and movement are the
protagonists. A new concept of habitat, for those with the privilege of live in a work of art.
Carlos Cruz-Diez (1923), French-
Venezuelan artist, who lives and works
in Paris since 1960. His plastic art
proposition, one of the most original
of the kinetic movement, shows us the
artist as one of the most important
colour theorists of twentieth century
and one of the most prominent
figures of contemporary art. His
work revolves around the chromatic
phenomenon and is constituted by
eight investigation: Couleur Additive,
Physichromie, Induction Chromatique,
Chromointerférence, Transchromie,
Chromosaturation, Chromoscope and
Couleur à l’Espace. His optical-kinetic
works appear in permanent collections
of prestigious museums, such as the
Museum of Modern art (MoMA), New
York; Tate Modern, London; Musée
d’Art Moderne de la Ville in Paris;
Centre Pompidou, Paris; Museum of
Fine Arts, Houston; Wallraf- Richartz
Museum, Cologne, among other.
With a trajectory of more than sixty
years of investigations and propositions
about colour, Cruz-Diez affirms: “The
Substantive character of colour is the
concept and starting point of my plastic
speech, contrary to conceptions that
only see in colour a complement of
form. In my work, colour has an intrinsic
value that allows it affirm itself though
its behaviours and ambivalences.
I propose autonomous colour, without
anecdotes, devoid of symbols; the
colour is seen as an ephemeral situation
and in ongoing mutation, creating
realities at every second. In my works
the spectators discover they can create
the colour with their own perceptive
means”
