We ’ve got a lot of people in the house. My grandparents from Brazil are here because it’s my grandfather’s birthday. He’s seventy today. His name’s Gabriel and he’s in England

for two weeks with my grandma, Mariana. Mariana is sixty-three and she’s really cool. Music is a big thing in her life and

she’s really good at the guitar. Her favourite band is The Rolling Stones. She’s also a very good guitar teacher. My dad’s sister, Angela, and her husband, Alan, have got two children – a son, Bruno, and a daughter called Carla. Uncle Alan is from Scotland, but he can speak Portuguese. Alan and my cousin, Bruno, have got kilts for the birthday party – (a kilt is a Scottish skirt for boys). I haven’t got a kilt (phew!) – just my black trousers and a new white shirt.

What kind of tiger was it?

This is a true story. It happened in England on a spring day in 2011. Alan Carr was on a walk near Marwell golf club. He noticed a strange animal in the long grass and climbed up a tree to see it with his binoculars. The animal was a white tiger. Alan climbed down the tree and called 999. A police car arrived at the golf club in minutes. And at 4 p.m., all the players stopped their games and walked into the club house. Then a police helicopter arrived. After that, police and animal experts walked across the grass to the tiger. They were surprised because the tiger didn’t move . Suddenly, the wind from the helicopter pushed the animal onto its back. And then they realised that it wasn’t a real tiger. It was a toy.

Bog snorkelling Every year about 200 people are happy to get cold, wet and dirty in this weird race. First they put on a snorkel, mask and fl ippers. Then they try to ‘swim’ fi fty-fi ve metres in a dirty bog. Last year the winner swam it in eighty-four seconds.

Chariot racing This is a race for three people. First competitors make a Roman ‘chariot’ with two mountain bikes and a rubbish bin. Then they put on Roman costumes and the chariot driver gets in the rubbish bin. After that they cycle through mud for two kilometres. It sometimes rains and the chariots often crash. After the race all the competitors get a free drink. They usually need it!

Do you want to be in the World Alternative Games? It’s only £15 for each race and it’s a lot of fun. Come to Llanwrtyd in Wales this summer!

There are a lot of unusual festivals in the UK. One of them is the World Alternative Games in Wales.

Welcome to the World Alternative Games! These crazy games take place in a small town

in Wales called Llanwrtyd. There are some

great activities for all the family.

Bath racing In this race people go across a lake in a bath! There’s a race for just one person in a bath and there’s also a very funny race for two people. Two people sit in a bath. One person tries to go backwards and the other person tries to go forwards. The race is 100 metres. People get very wet and they often fall in the lake, but it’s a lot of fun!

Backward running Some people think that running forwards is boring so they run backwards for one kilometre! This is a fun race for men, women and children. ‘It’s brilliant, but a bit dangerous,’ says Jack Rayes, last year’s winner.

Hi Lucy

I met Danny in Greenwood Park today for a game of tennis, but the court wasn’t open so we didn’t play. But we rode to the sports centre for a swim. It was a lot of fun.

Tomorrow I’m going to have lunch at his house. It’s going to be a barbecue in the garden. All his family and his cousins are going to be there. It sounds fun.

Next Saturday we’re going to cycle to Sonning. Would you and Brett like to come?
