Oh, by the way…
Religious Education begins Wednesday night.
Parents and students are to be in Church at 5:30 p.m.
After prayer, introductions, house-keeping details and
student dismissal, there will be a parent meeting
addressing the year. See all of you there…ON TIME!
Have we lost the spirit of Labor Day?
Today Labor Day is no longer about trade unionists marching down the street with banners and their tools of trade. Instead, it is a confused holiday with no associated rituals.
The original holiday was meant to handle a problem of long working hours and no time off. Although the battle over these issues would seem to have been won long ago, this issue is starting to come back with a vengeance, not for manufacturing workers but for highly skilled white-collar workers, many of whom are constantly connected to work.
If you work all the time and never really take a vacation, start a new ritual that honors the original spirit of Labor Day. Give yourself the day off. Don’t go in to work. Shut off your phone, computer and other electronic devices connecting you to your daily grind. Then go to a barbecue, like the original participants did over a century ago, and celebrate having at least one day off from work during the year!
The Good News is Still Good Jesus said: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will
find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is
easy, and my burden light" (Mt. 11:28-
30). Let us begin by going to the Lord,
laying our burdens at the foot of His cross
and giving over our hearts that we might
find rest.
This Labor Day, we draw our
attention to our sisters and brothers who
face twin crises—deep trials in both the
world of work and the state of the family.
These challenging times can pull us
toward despair and all the many dangers
that come with it. Into this reality, the Church shares a word of hope, directing hearts and
minds to the dignity of each human person and the sanctity of work itself, which is given by
God. She seeks to replace desperation and isolation with human concern and true solidarity,
reaffirming the trust in a good and gracious God who knows what we need before we ask him
(Mt. 6:8).
Over the previous years, I have been monitoring attendance numbers during the four
(4) civic holiday Masses. The celebrations at the cemeteries for
Memorial Day (St. Joseph) and 4th of July (St. Peter) work well.
Attendance is less for Labor Day. Why? This year our Cluster,
family, friends and visitors will
attend St. Francis for this
year’s holiday liturgy.
By doing this, all our Cluster
parishes have a holiday
celebration! 9:00 a.m. Monday. See ya! (In case you are
unfamiliar: 217 W. Montgomery, Francesville; if you are on
421, head east at Family Express…about four (4) blocks,
north side.)
Meanwhile, cooking on the grill….fr. K

Something to think about…. Life is a gift
Today before you think of saying an unkind word- Think of someone who can’t speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food-Think of someone who has nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband or wife- Think of someone who’s crying out to God for a companion.
Today before you complain about life- Think of someone who died too early. Before you complain about your children- Think of someone who desires children
but is barren. Before you complain about your house- Think of the people who are living in the
streets. When you are tired and resent your job- Think of the unemployed, the disabled
and those who wish they had your job. And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down- Put a smile on your face
and thank God you’re alive and still around.
Life is a gift…Live it, enjoy it, celebrate it and fulfill it!!!!
