    Hooray! Hooray! Dr. Seuss Day!On March 1, 2013 we celebrated Dr. Seuss

    Birthday and the importance of reading

    through a variety of events.

    To help encourage the importance of reading

    we had guest readers come to read to

    students. The readers included school district

    administration, Board of Education members,

    community members and 3rd and 4th grade

    students.

    Some of our guest readers were:

    We had three Dr. Seuss Spirit Days: Wacky Wednesday, Fo

    in Socks Thursday, and Cat in the Hat Friday. On Wacky

    Wednesday students dressed up wacky mismatched. Crazysocks were Fox in Socks Thursday and Hats were Cat in the

    Hat Friday. The students and staff had a blast with the

    silliness and fun.

    March School is off to a good start usingFirst in Math Online Program in grades 2,3, and 4. First In Math activities employ

    Deep Practice techniques to rapidly increase computation,problem solving, critical thinking and essential mathbasics. Skills that may take months of regular practice can

    be mastered in a much shorter time using Deep Practicetechniques and the immediate feedback online learning can

    provide. Children using FIM have shown dramatic increases inmath scoresacross the board from the top students to the mostmath-challenged learners.Math24 Online Program has a twist this month. Our EASD has

    received from the First in Math Teamadditional accounts for Kindergarten andFirst grade students. As they learn to

    Students in Mrs. Danyi's 3rd grade ESL groups wereexpanding their writing skills by writing descriptive

    paragraphs. They included adjectives since that wasthe focus grammar skill taught during Unit 4. Theybrainstormed people they might like to describe,completed 4 square organizers, wrote rough copies,

    and typed final copies.

    Dr. Seuss WritingCompetition

    This February, March

    Elementary School held a

    writing competition based

    upon a different Dr. Seuss

    characters. Students in

    Grade 1st - 4th had to write

    a story using four specific

    characters which were

    Horton, Lorax, Cat in the

    Hat, and One Fish, Two Fish.

    The students had to write

    about what they would do

    with the characters for a day

    either in Seussland or in our

    world.

    We had approximately

    40 students submit

    wonderfully creative stories.

    From each grade level one

    Grand Prize story was chosen

    and two runner ups. They

    received an awarded and a

    gift certificate from either

    Barnes & Nobles or our

    Scholastic Book Fair. All

    other students received an

    award of participation.

    3rd Grade Biographies

    The third grade classes

    have been working veryhard the past few weekson their biography bookreports. In honor ofBlack History Month,Womens History Month,and Presidents Day,students were

    encouraged to select a person that represented one ofthese celebrations. After students selected their person andread the biography, they compiled information from their bookto write a short report. After doing the writing piece the

    students then created aperson with a tri-fold center todisplay the information theyfound interesting about theirperson. The third gradeclasses enjoyed the projectand learned a lot about manypowerful and important peopleall around the world. Stop bythe third grade hallway to seesome of these famous peopleand read their stories!

    On February 28, 2013, Mrs.Kinney was invited to the EastonRotary Meeting to share with themembers how the $500.00Teacher of the Year monetary gift

    was spend for F.A. March School.Mrs. Kinney couldnt think of a better way to explain how the

    generous monies were spent than to bring the gift with her. The F.A.

    Little Leopard Mascot greeted the Rotarians with huge waves andmany kicks in her step to express the gratitude to the Club and ourwonderful March PTA for matching the award money so this veryspecial costume could be purchased for our school community. Theymembers appreciated hearing how our mascot brings many widesmiles, laughter and giggles every time she attends a school event.Mrs. Kinney had many pictures to pass around showing the mascotand the students participating in school activities. The Rotary Clubmembers enjoyed meeting our school mascot knowing how special thisgift is for our students.

    We are continuing tocollect "Tabs for theRonald McDonaldHouse". With these tabs,we can help the Ronald

    McDonald House pay thecost for families to stayclose by to their childrenwhile they are ill and need to stay in the hospital.Please keep bringing in any "pop tab" that is on sodacans, soup cans, dog food cans.

    Leopard Council's K-Kids are now starting ournext project, "Paper for Meals on Wheels". Incollection boxes around the school, we are collectingpaper that has been used on one side, so that theother side may be used for the drivers to print the

    directions to where they need todeliver the meals. We are also going to bestarting a "Shave for the Brave"group that will be shaving theirheads on May 5th. You can eithercome and shave your head orsupport those who are shaving.There will be disco balls,dancing, face painting and more!Come out and support!

    Leopards are

    doing a

    FAME-tastic

    job of clipping

    Box Tops for

    the2012-2013

    school year.

    We set a goal of raising $1,500.00. The money earned

    through the collection of Box Tops will help to fund the

    FAME prizes and assemblies for our students. We are so

    excited to share that our school just hit $1,277.00 in box

    tops. We are only $223.00 away from our goal! What a

    fabulous job! Take a LOOK at our Box Tops tracking

    chart in the hall and cheer our school on as we celebrate

    our progress. Don't forget to clip box tops and bring them

    into school because its HIP to CLIP!
