8.0 Transportation Policy

Policy StatementLittle Ducklings Preschool takes the safety of children seriously and we also acknowledge the responsibilities requires when transporting children. We will take great care to ensure all the legal requirements are met and that a written risk assessment is carried out and disclosed in detail with relevant staff.

Cars, People Carriers, Mini buses We will ensure that there is one seat per child with appropriate restraints in line

with current regulations. We will ensure that no side facing seats are used. All vehicles used to transport children have a valid M.O.T certificate. All vehicles carry working fire extinguishers. All vehicles carry first aid kits and mobile phones, for emergency use only. All drivers will hold a full licence and relevant driving experience. Where there are 4 or more children being transported one other non- driving

escort will be in the vehicle. Permission is always sought, prior to children being transported. All vehicles used by Little Ducklings Preschool is covered for business use

insurance and is insured for liabilities to 3rd parties that cover passengers in the vehicles.

Drivers bring in necessary documentation, which covers them to drive the vehicles.

Where a mini bus is being used for transporting children, a Section 19 (Local Authority driving permit) will be obtained.

Drives of a mini bus will hold a pre-1997 driving licence, with valid Category D1 authority, unless Section 2 applies.

Where an outside transport company is used, we check that relevant licences and documentation are current and in place.

Escorting procedure All regular escorts are known to Little Ducklings Preschool and hold a fully

enhanced DBS check. Full risk assessments are carried out prior to the children being escorted. Adult:child ratios are exceeded where necessary.
