For the rest of the block we are going to be looking at different types of poetry and then have a go at writing our own.

This week we are focussing on... Haiku

Use the poster below to help you with your planning..

Page 4: Literacy · Web view2. Clap it - clap the syllables of the word. Write it. (clapp/ing) 3. Find rhyming words. 4. Grow it. What words can you make from it? Try prefixes and suffixes

Step 1

Choose your Season. I have chosen Spring.

Brainstorm as many words that you can think of relating to your season. Use the example below to help you.

Step 2

Organise your words into syllable columns. Use the example below to help you.

Page 5: Literacy · Web view2. Clap it - clap the syllables of the word. Write it. (clapp/ing) 3. Find rhyming words. 4. Grow it. What words can you make from it? Try prefixes and suffixes

Step 3

Organise your words into the syllable pattern and write your haiku. (5 - 7 - 5) Below is my example for Spring.

Flowers bloom into life

Easter bunny hides bright eggs

Spring brings sun and fun

Writing Task 2Use the planning sheet to create your own Haiku poem. Traditionally Haiku's are written about the seasons but you could choose any subject. I have noted some examples below:

-cars

-animals

-food

Writing Task 3Before you start your neat copy of your poem check the success criteria below.

1. My poem consists of 3 lines

Knowing she might only have a few seconds before her opportunity disappeared, she took another cautious step forward. Time seemed to slow, her body tingled in excitement and her heart thudded in her chest. It was now or never…
