literacy at HCC is by song writing.
Through this session we will demonstrate
some of the literacy techniques and methods
that we use for song writing, with theintention that you will be able to adapt theseideas to suit your own needs.

This step addresses the traditional role of a verseand chorus in a song.
Verse the verse is like a chapter in a book. It gives you the detail ofthe story, and helps the story to progress.
Chorus the chorus is a summary of the main points and themes of
the song.
Task Create 3 stages to your story.These will be the outline to yourverses.
E.g 1) Meeting and going out. 2) Shes a tramp. 3) Moving on.

The key things we address are: Rhyme scheme, syllables, sentence length, lettersounds, format (presentation).

Task- Using the first stage of your story, youare to write a four lined verse. It must:
1) use the rhyme scheme A, B, A, B.2) have a similar amount of syllables for each
line.

The parameters set for this task can be varied according to the ability, priorknowledge, musical interest, (anything) of the learners.
