listening facilitative e-tools in education
TRANSCRIPT
Listening activities are especially beneficial during the early phase of language
development
One of the most fundamental strategies is to
expose students to authentic/real context
information or material.
In the past newcasts radio and/or TV programs were
used; now podcasts, videocasts, audioblogs,
iPods, video recording, etc.
Listening is an active process through which we
construct meanings.
We must give ELLs opportunities to read, to write, to listen to and to discuss oral and written
English texts in a variety of ways.
A podcast is a digital file that is created and posted on the internet to be played
back on a mobile device.
Teachers and students can subscribe to download and listen to existing podcasts.
In addition, teachers and students can create podcasts of their own.
Podcast help to learn language in context. They can be used as pre-
listening, or after listening activities.
It is similar to apodcast but insteadof only audio itcontains video.
Vodcast can be usedin classroom tocompare andcontrast situations.
It helps students toreport usinggrammar and towork using languagein real situations.
Audioblogs combine blog and audio file
technology.
Users can post files online instead of or in addition to text files and share them with
an audience.
Audio blogs are useful for debates and oral exercises.
Students have the chance to record
many times before posting.
Video sharing libraries can containinappropriate material. Teachers maywant to direct students to previouslyscreened videos or use a webquest toguide students to view particularvideos and not others.
These video libraries contain shortvideo clips uploaded and posted byviewers. Often viewers rate the videosand the videos are categorized by mostpopular, most viewed, etc.
