Registrar PIR

What’s Different in .ngo & .ong

• Purchase Flow

• Presentation of and agreement to the PIR policies (see Product Guide for examples)

• Presentation of the Claim URL

• The Technical Bundle of .ngo and .ong

• Understanding EPP

• No Private / Proxy registrations

• Validation

• Registrant has 360 days to validate

• Domain name is not usable until validated (Server Hold)

• Claim URL needed to trigger account set up at www.ongood.ngo

• Registrant validates at www.ongood.ngo

• Account Set up and Validation Reminder Emails

• Premium Names

• Q3/Q4 Afilias / PIR will adopt the new EPP standard for Premium Names developed by the community

Technical Bundle of .ngo & .ong

• Why a bundle?

• To offer a consistent naming experience to registrants and an immediate global impact

• What is a bundle?

• Market perspective: combined sale of second-level domains for both TLDs

• Technical perspective: set of two domains linked in the registry sharing most identical attributes

• Minimum Requirements for the technical bundle

• During the registrar’s purchase flow/checkout process, the registrant must explicitly agree to PIR’s .ngo & .ong Registration Policies

• After registration both sites must resolve to DNS records of the registrant’s choosing

• For the duration of the registration term, proxy registration and/or privacy protection is not allowed.

Understanding Name Server Behavior

At the registry level, the following attributes are the same for the .ngo and corresponding .ong domain name• Registrar of Record• Registration and Expiry Dates• Registrant, Admin, Billing, and Technical Contacts• Name Server Association• Domain Status• Applicable grace periods (Add Grace Period, Renewal Grace Period, Auto-Renewal

Grace Period, Transfer Grace Period, and Redemption Grace Period) Nameservers will be the same for both the .ngo & the .ong domain• e.g. example.ngo points to ns1.example.org, ns2.example.org – this means at the

registry level example.ong is automatically associated to those same nameservers

• Any update to the nameservers of one extension will automatically be updated for the other extension at the registry level

Value-Added Services with .ngo & .ong

What Value Added Services could the customers need?

• While DNS hosting (nameserver records) are the same, every thing else is unique – the hosting space, web server services, etc.

• For example:

If the registrant wants both sites to resolve, they will need webserver hosting for 2 sites (content at example.ngo & example.ong)

If the registrant wants to receive email at example.ngo AND example.ong, they will need email service (mailboxes) for 2 domain names

If the registrant wants to have secure (https) transactions for both domains, they will need an enhanced SSL certificate (not the basic 1 cert = 1 domain certificate)

Content: Grassroot NGOs need help with content for their profile pages, social media assets (which could be new) and, of course, their websites

What Value Added Services are prohibited?

• Only private registrations/proxy registrations (accurate registrant info must be displayed in whois)

Continued Outreach and Marketing• Digital Advertising

• Currently targeting NGO prospects

• Events

• Work with channel partners to reach out to the NGO community

• Donor Advertising

• Offline ads such as press, video ads etc.

• Helps with general awareness of .ngo

• Work with Customers

• To complete their profile pages

• Help them educate their supporters

Use Of The OnGood Directory

Benefits Selling .ngo & .ong Domains

• Number of domain names

• Initial analysis shows 1.8 domain name bundles per registrant

• Unique Value Proposition of .ngo Yields Stickiness

• If the registrant has completed validation, they are likely to have a genuine need or use for the domain name

• The purchase of .ngo includes listing on the OnGood directory

• Hosting and other Value Added Services

• Upsell of hosting, email and security is a potential upside, particularly for grassroots NGOs

• Content: Grassroots NGOs need help with content for their profile pages, social media assets (which could be new) and of course their websites

• Registry Commitment to Drive Global Market Adoption• PIR developed .ngo & .ong with the NGO market, in response to

market demand

• PIR has invested to create awareness & drive adoption.

• Investment to create new demand into the channel continues. This is only the beginning.
