Scale of an atom

1)  Describe the relative size of the nucleus in relation to the whole atom

2)  Describe your own analogy of the atom.

NUCLEUS: READ THE PASSAGE •  The nucleus contains the PROTONS and

the NEUTRONS.

•  It is the MOST DENSE part of the atom even though its diameter compared to the size of the atom is TINY!

•  The nucleus determines the MASS of the atom, because the protons and the neutrons each weigh 1 atm (atomic mass unit).

NEXT Complete the

1. DRAWING OF YOUR ATOM 2. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE worksheet

When you are done, you may work on the

following: •  Completing the 3.1 ORGANIZER •  CHEMISTRY VOCABULARY JOURNAL - you will be allowed to use this on your quizzes and (some of)

your exams
