Smith Tank & Steel, Inc. was founded in 1997 by president/CEO,

Sam Smith, Jr. and vice president, Billy Smith, who oversees

operations, estimating, and engineering.

The company has grown to become a nationwide contractor

specializing in the construction and repair of API storage tanks

with offices in Gonzales, LA, corporate office, Livingston, LA,

and Houston, TX.

The shop fabricates tanks, appurtenances and ASME vessels.

Bulk loads of plate steel are shipped to the shop by way of rail

and truck. Rail can also be used to ship finished products such

as heavy vessels.

Smith Tank & Steel maintains the highest levels of safety on a

fast track schedule to exceed customer expectations.

Smith Tank & Steel maintains the best safety record in the

business. The owners and managers spent many years in the

shop & field and are aware of the potential hazards to their

valuable employees. Our safety department includes an

experienced safety director as well as full-time field staff. We

train and work closely with our Supervision and Management

Team auditing our projects and correcting safety related issues.

Each job is planned and reviewed with the supervisor and all

aspects of safety are dissected and evaluated with the Manage-

ment Team to assure total compliance before the project starts.

The same model that continually improves quality is followed

for safety. A common-sense approach and extensive training

keep Smith Tank’s incident-free goal a reality, year-after-year.

and 653 or AWWA specifications.

Materials used include carbon steel, stainless steel, alloys and aluminum.

aboveground storage tanks per API 653.
