The Model 14L RF electronic level switch, housed in a castaluminum explosion-proof enclosure, is ideal for alarm and/orcontrol of conductive and non-conductive liquids, granular ma-terials, foams, slurries, and interface applications. An ad-justable 0-20 second relay delay time, together with normal orfail-safe operating modes, provides versatile control functionconfiguration for your application requirements. Differential(cyclic) control enables two setpoints to be established on thesensor. The relay state changes when the level reaches the sec-ond setpoint and remains in this state until the level falls be-low the first setpoint. This system can control any media thathas a dielectric constant between .5 and 80.0 (light hydrocar-bons, plastic pellets to water, acids, and slurries).

The sensor is energized with a radio frequency signal. Asthe media level changes, the capacitance of the sensor changes,resulting in a change in radio frequency signal. This frequencychange is compared with a preset value stored in the measur-ing circuit and used to actuate a relay for alarm and/or control.The design of the Model 14L contains an innovative shield dri-ver circuit, enabling it to ignore the effect of conductive materi-al coatings.

Typically, the sensor is integrally mounted to the Model 14Lhousing. The sensor can also be remotely mounted for applica-tions with high temperature and/or high vibration. The sen-sors are manufactured in a variety of metals and insulatingmaterials. The active measurement length of the sensor variesdepending on the application requirements. The sensor may bemounted in a vertical or horizontal position. Normally, the sen-sor is threaded into a process vessel with a 3/4-inch NPT connection

The Cap Point/511 systemconsists of an electronic amplifi-er mounted in a cast aluminumexplosion proof housing. Thishousing is integrally mountedon the rear of the probe. TheCap Point/511 always uses ei-ther a F.P. (guarded polypropy-lene) or GT (guarded Teflon®)probe assembly (see below).

Probes are manufactured ina variety of insulating materi-als and metals. The activelength of the probe will varysubject to the specific applica-tion of the system. The probemay be mounted in a vertical orhorizontal position. Normally,the probe is threaded into theprocess vessel with a 3⁄4" connec-tion. The probe is energizedwith a radio frequency signal(about 2 megahertz). When theprocess level changes, a change of capacitance occurs, resultingin a small change in frequency. This change is compared withpreset values in the electronic measuring circuit. After properamplification, this signal is used to provide a change of statecondition which operates the relay.

The CAP POINT/511 is pre-calibrated to operate in any sizevessel, provided the tank's physical dimensions are greaterthan one foot in diameter. Smaller vessels or probes installedin pipes must be dynamically calibrated, i.e. installed in

process vessel and calibrated to your exact conditions.Installation with products that have dielectric constants of lessthan 1/5 should be dynamically calibrated. The pre-calibrationpermits application to the control of any product with a dielec-tric constant from 1.5 to 80.0 (light hydrocarbons, plastic pel-lets to water acids and slurries). A time delay is provided toeliminate the effects from turbulence.

The CAP POINT/511 utilizes a guarded probe that eliminatesany shift in control point due to build up of product.

The CAP POINT/511 is an ideal solution for many level controlproblems. Most liquids are potential applications for the Cap Point/511 as are free flowinggranular products.• Liquids-Petroleum Products:

Point Liquid Level SwitchThe sensor is a magnetostrictive device consisting of a

diaphragm, nickel tube, magnet, drive coil and pickup coil When 40 kHz energy is applied to the drive coil, it caus-

es the diaphragm to vibrate at a frequency determined bythe mechanical resonant system of the sensor. Electricalenergy is transferred to the pickup coil when the di-aphragm is free to move in gas. When the diaphragm mo-tion is loaded by a process material, less energy is trans-

ferred to the pickup coil.The pickup coil of the

sensor is connected to theinput of an amplifier andthe output of the amplifierto the drive coil to form afeedback loop circuit. Anyenergy appearing in the out-put of the sensor will be fedto the amplifier, amplified,and returned to the input ofthe sensor. This causes vi-

brations at 40 kHz to occur in the diaphragm and furnish asignal back to the amplifier for reamplification. When thegain of the amplifier is adjusted so as to exceed the losseswithin the sensor, continuous oscillations are produced.

If the diaphragm of the sensor is exposed to a processliquid product which offers greater mechanical resistanceto the motion of the diaphragm, the transfer of energy tothe pickup coil decreases. This results in a decrease in the

signal feedback into the am-plifier and a correspondingdecrease in the signal avail-able from the output of theamplifier. The decreasedsignal triggers a voltagesensitive network that con-trols the output relay.

A unique AUTO TESTself-checking circuit con-stantly verifies the integrityof the sensor circuits. TheRED LED is illuminatedwhen the product is presentat the sensor and the systemis not oscillating at approxi-mately 40 kHz. If the ampli-tude or the frequency of thesensor circuits changes, theRED LED will come on. Ifthe change of state occursdue to a level change, the re-lay will follow and changeits state. However, if thechange of state is due to asensor failure or some othercomponent failure, the relaywill immediately transfer tothe alarm condition. Thisfoolproof feature protectsthe system for loss of power,major component failure ordamaged sensor conditions.The SONAC®/110B systemwill fail safe for all sensor orcomponent failures exceptfor open sensor in the lowlevel fail safe mode.

Theprinted circuit boards use state-of-the-art surfacemount technology for protection against mechani-cal shock and vibration. Each is temperaturecompensated to assure accuracy and long-termstability when exposed to severe ambient temper-ature variations.

The transmitter features a watertight, ventedpolyurethane cable that can withstand over 220pounds of strain. This allows the transmitter tobe supported without any additional cabling. Thetransmitter meets NEMA 6P and IP 68 require-ments for submersion up to 300 feet.

This compact, rugged submersible pressuretransmitter is suitable for applications in levelmeasurement, water and wastewater treatment,well depth measurement, and offshore waterdepth measurement.

Contact of the electrode assembly with thewater surface is indicated by an LED and thesound of the audio alert beeper.

The lead electrode assembly is 3/8” in di-ameter and is easily replaceable in the field.The cable is two-conductor, steel and copperplated, with a tensile strength of approxi-mately 300 lbs and a tough plastic type insu-lating jacket. It is mounted on a small hand-held spool and stand which can be used con-veniently to let out or withdraw the cable andelectrode assembly.

Depth indication is provided by numberedmetal tags securely crimped to the cable atintervals of five feet.
